@@rowanaboat4523 Your statement was true but stupidly non-specific. Any British accent -- whatever the features that make it distinctive, there are other British accents whose distinctive features are completely different ones. So saying "British accent" gives no clue as to what features it has.
@@robbutterill1426 he did go to Repton, though, I think he was in the year below Adrian Newey, they both got expelled about the same time. Jeremy was also a child actor and sounded incredibly posh, not a hint of South Yorkshire...
@@richardharrold9736 If you grow up in yorkshire you will still be able to do the yorkshire accent. Everyone in the uk still has hints of their regionally accent regardless of how educated they get.
@@freneticness6927 not if it's drummed out of them young enough. There was still a massive stigma against regional accents in the 60s and 70s. Clarkson sounded very posh as a child. I also knew a much older chap from North Yorkshire, the former organist of York Minster, Francis Jackson (1917-2022), who told me how his family, teachers etc squashed his Yorkshire accent in early childhood and taught him to 'speak proper', as in the 1920s a regional accent was a serious impediment to social and professional standing. He could still sort-of do an impression of a Yorkshire accent when I knew him in his nineties, but it was far more affected and unbelievable than his posh RP. My father, who is three years older than Clarkson, was born and raised in Scotland (spent his first seven years in Glasgow, then moved to Dundee, before moving to Surrey at the age of twenty-eight). He has never, ever been able to do a remotely convincing Glaswegian or Dundonian accent. The only regional accent he can do is East Somerset, where one of his grandparents originally came from (but left half a century before my father was born, and had no trace of a Somerset accent)...
Also the Manor F1 clip (the last one) is cut off. After it ends here Hammond says “I hope they win everything so they have a big brass band on the podium” and Clarkson replies in his Yorkshire accent “oh, Abide With Me! We’re not having the national anthem, we’re having Abide With Me on a brass band, it’ll be loovleh!”

The beautiful thing about these compilations is, that it shows how great both these shows are. Whatever the compilation or clip it is, after every clip I get slightly disappointed when it doesn't show the next part.
Those houses at 1:01 reminded me of working in Scotland for several years: Grey skies, grey houses and grey people (some with orange hair). It was depressing.
@@scottwhitley3392 I did, but the areas around Edinburgh and Glasgow were as above. I cant change the peely-wally nature of the skin, the weather nor the construction materials used for new houses - it is what it is.
@@robbutterill1426 Scotland and England geologically are very different. That’s why Edinburgh is mostly build out of sandstone Aberdeen of Granite and that cheap red brick is used down here in England.
@@robbutterill1426 Ignore Mr Whitley - he's being rather disingenuous by comparing old traditional houses in Aberdeen and Edinburgh with new houses in the UK. Old UK houses were made of local stone too. New Scottish houses are made of wood, insulating board and dampproof courses, not a brick in sight, and then covered with that grey spray-on concrete and topped with dark brown roof tiles. UK bricks come in many hues of red, yellow, grey, brown, even blue.
Because they are educated. In my country I was born and raised in a region with a strong accent and I educated myself to drop that silly thing, now I talk properly my language. People who have accents have no proper education and that's a fact.
@@HeavenlyWarrior i have a regional accent and I'm getting As and A*s and going to uni next year lmfao, how do people with accents not have an education?

@@SeektheLordsface i dont know what you re talking about but it sure sounded like (to make a metaphor) you re a car wanting to get it’s tank filled up with a big hose.

Strange woman, she ages backwards. She was mid thirties when doing x-files, then grew into her fiftees, here she's back in her mid forties and last pictures I saw of her she was back in her thirties.
I agree, I found her very engaging and I confess, rather magnetic. At the time that she was in the X-Files, I had no idea that she naturally spoke with an English accent.
"Have a stroke half way through the word." Do this for every word and congratulations, you can now speak like a Yorkshireman. Next week's lesson will be on the importance of hating Lancastrians.
Jeremy also does a couple of pretty decent American accents as well. I also found it funny that Gillian Anderson said his accents were impressive 'cause for years, I thought she was American. Didn't know otherwise 'til I saw that episode of Top Gear.
It always comes as a shock at 1:53 when we don't see James sitting next to Richard. We forget that for the very first series of the re-booted Top Gear in 2002, James was not on the show. They had Jason Dawe instead. Just does not look right does it?
It kills me every time when I hear Jeremy speak in a Brummie accent. He sounds exactly like my neighbour, and ironically he used to work at Jaguar Land Rover. 😂
i can confirm all brummies (my mum included) use this expression instead of a sigh. like when the cat appeared in the living rooom or u meet ur grandkids😂
I just feel that I should mention it, since the clip appears in several of these videos, the name Furai that Jeremy mocks probably means (having not seen the name written in Japanese) lightning wind, Fu being wind and Rai being lightning. Also it's Fu as in food and not fury.
Thing is, no self-respecting Midlander would ever call Brum the 'Venice of the North', because prideful as we are of being neither North nor South, we make consistent and clear pains to avoid being identified as the South/North.
I just couldn't stop smiling. This is just great. I love the accents. I really wish I'd been born in the UK. I love this era of Top Gear. I'm sure Clarkson would be great at stand up comedy. A full episode would be great. Thanks.
Great compilation. One more funny accent I always liked was his cockney impression of Minder when James had a Capri. 'Alright Tel, I wanna see claret on the pavement'
The definition of entertainment. Goodness, we had it good when JC was at TG during the 2002-2015 period. Small wonder the reformatted version of this motoring show attracted 350 million viewers. And actually made money for the BBC.
If there is another Jeremy Clarkson's British Accents compilation in the works, he did a few accents in QI. From the top of my head he did a Brummy accent in "Bible" and a Yorkshire accent in "Lucky Losers".
His "regional" accents amount to someone who sounds a lot like Himmler, a Brummy car builder, and the village idiot from Barnsley. Not extensive, but it does bring a smile to my face. And stop saying Cossa, we stopped buying them 30 years ago.
It’s nice to hear Clarkson’s natural Yorkshire accent. I’m also from Yorkshire and I can very easily relate since I and so many people in the area have that kind of dialect.
