Because those who financially back the Tory party wished it to be so they could garner tax payer's money into shares and then award themselves high bonuses for operating a business that will always be underwritten. A policy that has led to the highest fares in Europe and one of the poorest reliable service. And if you think that was a rip-off just look at the privatisation of the bus industry where managers became millionaires just months after taking over while staff had wages cut and driving hours lengthened during the late 80's and early 90's.

It's the only way they'll get into power is to be a centrist government. They will never get in as a left socialist party. And numbers speak for that,over the last fourth plus years the only labour government was centrist and as a socialist party they've never come close.

Still a Corbynite for all it was worth. Our political landscape is always one that seems to value the veneer of strength, Jeremy's gentle nature always seemed a breath of fresh air to me. We need the gentle and the kind more than ever these days it seems, that's not to say when pushed the gentle are weak, just that they start from a place of empathy. Solidarity with the RMT and beyond to anyone engaged in industrial action right now. In lieu of a political party willing to be a truly left wing opposition it falls to the people and the unions to organise against the heinousness of the Tory class war. Sunak and Truss stating they'll move to ban these strikes is a frightening overreach and as Jeremy states above, will not stop the strikes, it will not pause affirmative action. It will just pit the Police further against the working people of this country at a time where faith in our retributive judicial institutions is already pretty low.

I have to say I completely disagree.. the problem of backing down from the fight is what was wrong labour under corbyn... sitting in a love circle holding hands isn't going to cut it when you're having mud thrown at you by the Conservatives and every news outlet... what corbyn needed to be was like the union reps now.. no nonsense no bullshit.. not the mild mannered wet flannel approach...
@ChumleyNuffington
@ChumleyNuffington 2 года назад
@@Ma55ey I may not have been as clear as I could've been. I don't believe a fair weather approach is the answer, I was more referring to the obsession with the 'strong man' argument a lot of conservatives have. There's nothing that says a gentle person should or would take oppression lying down. We are past the point where acquiescing to blatantly fatal politics in the interest of being 'fair' is going to do anything. I'm certainly not advocating for backing down from the fight, if anything we must redouble our efforts to engage with the fight. I suppose I was imagining a utopianist stance where we could live in a world of gentleness. I will say though that no matter how hard we have to fight, no matter how dirty we must remain the side of empathy and compassion. By no means must that extend to those wearing the boot though. Gentleness and kindness are not weak traits, they're essential to our survival now, but so is the will to to fight injustice. I don't personally feel those positions are incompatible. All that being said we will always need a militant branch in our activist spaces, they're just as essential. I hope I just made sense, I wanted to reply while your response got my brain ticking but I've got like five minutes to do so at work.

@@ChumleyNuffington no worries man I didn't mean to sound so aggressive if that's how it came across.... I agree with you that kindness is an all too unfamiliar virtue in the world. But in a political landscape inhabited but people like Boris, Rees mogg, gove and farage Corbyn with his take the high ground approach, was not the man to take them on.. he would have been a great wing man.. but the left needs somone that can take these chancers head on, and publicly confront them and expose them for the liars they are... I've been so impressed recently with the trade union bosses who have been vilified in the news as usual, but who have remained respectful, articulate, blunt and on point about supporting the rights of their members throughout.. but more disgustingly left out to dry by the labour party....

@Simon Simoney It's fear of the 'other' that unites them, that fear implanted in their Brain like a seed has grown into a 'big lie tree' that has continued to trick them into voting against their own best interests for decades; under the delusion that they are helping themselves and their 'collective'. I believe their true reasons for Brexit wasn't that they wanted to see the World Burn but.. "We were doing it for our Children! To give them a future!", I think they truly believe that 'Big Lie' that they are the 'Good guys' in all of this, rather than the 'useful idiots' that everyone across the World sees them as. Tories have done a great job of scaring them with a false crisis and offering them a solution that benefits themselves but not those they are scaring through the media. Can't see the Boomers having a change of Heart, they're going to continue on the path, whether out of spite or out of the fact they're too old to change their spots? So true. We are fed so much crap by the right wing media all of the time. But when faced with a genuine possibility of a socialist government, that same media go into total overdrive and their attempts to distort reality and strike fear of change into the public at large and unfortunately, it works. They scare enough voters off. Even then, I firmly believe that had the right wing of the Labour Party (who are basically tories with slightly gentler tones), not turned on their democratically elected leader, we would have had that socialist government. And what brought Corbyn down in 2019 was Brexit (and ironically, Corbyn, if left to his own devices would have supported leaving the EU, and those so called Red Wall seats would still be held by Labour), and the anti semitic row. Now, anyone who genuinely believes that Corbyn is racist, are very deluded people indeed. The truth is, the amount of anti semitites in the Labour Party was 0.something percent and while those people needed to be dealt with, the reason it wasn't was because those who were tasked with dealing with it, were deliberately not doing the job because they wanted to screw up Corbyn- it's all there in a report that was finalised and submitted to the Labour Party shortly after Sir Keir Starmer took over. And Starmer made sure that report was buried. But you can Google and check this out. Corbyn was sabotaged by his own party. I think the only way forward for socialism in this county is if the Unions do a deal with The Green Party whereby the funding and the support in general goes to The Greens, but only on the understanding that they openly support Extinction Rebellion and change their name to The Green Labour Party. Then we can try again.

If you has listened to what JC had said you would know the answer to your question. Starmer has to look at the bigger picture. I was in the FBU and on strike during the Blair government. We weren't supported then as a Labour government would not support strikes now. They would however try to change society for the better and hopefully the the need for people to strike would be eradicated. By supporting the RMT or any other union they would be ensuring the Tories win the next election. I hate tories so give me Labour left ,right or centre any day. Socialism will fail unless we unite.
