Jeremy... ok...I'll admit it. I was sort of dreading the movie because I thought there is NO-ONE who would be able to even touch Norbert's performance of Jaime (and this song in particular)...but WOW. That was great! Ok....I''m on board.
How is it that Jeremy can have such power over how I’m feeling? Like, seriously, if he’s smiling and happy, then I’m smiling and happy; if he’s sad and has tears in his eyes, then I get teary-eyed. Dude, you’re killing me.
Renske Dunnewold I think they might go with a dark skinned Fiyero like in the book. They did say they would incorporate elements from the book that weren't in the musical.
Did I just hear an alarm start ringing? Did I see sirens go flying past? Though I don't know what tomorrow's bringing I've got a singular impression Things are moving too fast I'm gliding smooth as a figure skater I'm riding hot as a rocket blast I just expected it ten years later I've got a singular impression Things are moving too fast And you say, "Oh, no Step on the brakes Do whatever it takes But stop this train Slow, slow! The light's turing red" But I say: No! No! Whatever I do I barrel on through And I don't complain No matter what I try I'm flying full speed ahead I'm never worried to walk the wire I won't do anything just "half-assed" But with the stakes getting somewhat higher I've got a singular impression things are moving too fast I found a woman I love And I found an agent who loves me Things might get bumpy but Some people analyze every detail Some people stall when they can't see the trail Some people freeze out of fear that they'll fail But I keep rollin' on Some people can't get success with their art Some people never feel love in their heart Some people can't tell the two things apart But I keep rollin' on Oh, oh - maybe I can't follow through But oh, oh - what else am I supposed to do? I dreamed of writing like the high and mighty Now I'm the subject of a bidding war I met my personal Aphrodite I'm doing things I never dreamed of before We start to take the next step together Found an apartment on Seventy-Third The Atlantic Monthly's printing my first chapter Two thousand bucks without rewriting one word I left Columbia and I don'tregret it I wrote a book and Sonny Mehta read it My heart's been stolen My ego's swollen I just keep rollin' along And I think Well, well, what else is in store? Got all this and more before twenty-four It's hard not to be sure I'm spinning out of control Out of control I'm feeling panicked and rushed and hurried I'm feeling outmaneuvered and outclassed But I'm so happy I can't get worried About this singular impression I've got a singular impression things are moving too fast
One of our best singing actors! Yes, the voice is astonishing. But the way he uses it . . . and how he shapes the music to the lyric . . . and brings out the full meaning. Such a rare talent. Thank you for posting. I've lost count of the number of times I've watched this. And it gets me every time. And P.S. Ben is brilliant!
I really don't understand.. how come this guy is not all over broadway and releasing his own songs and albums? I mean he is a hell of a performer with velvet incredible voice! I know he did the famous musical newsies but it's not enough! He's not less talented than Ramin Karimloo!
He has been on a lot of broadway shows and Jeremy has been around for many years but tv makes more money than broadway and not everyone wants to release an album. Maybe he will release an album in the future but at the mo he has a contract with DC.
Newsies, bonnie and Clyde, last five years, smash, tangled series, loads of little songs here and there, he was the very first J.D when the musical first came around (not the movie)
I've seen two different productions of TL5Y and Jamie upstaged Cathy in both. Judging from those productions, online clips and knowing the soundtrack inside and out, I think there is a certain bias implanted on us to like him more (even if we don't realize it) since the musical starts off with Cathy's depressing songs contrasting with Jamie's upbeat fun songs. SPOILER ALERT: Even near the end when Jamie's songs morph into sad ones and Cathy's become nice and light, we end up feeling bad for Jamie- even though not many people want to feel bad for someone who cheats, the way he describes his feelings in "Nobody needs to know" and "Goodbye until tomorrow" leaves us with that cringing feeling that although we don't want to accept his bad decisions, we're not all that surprised with them when we line them up with how Cathy deals with herself and how she responds to their marriage during her struggles as an actress. Not to say that Cathy isn't a likable character or that her struggles are invalid. She has every right to be pissed at Jamie's ignorance of her world (I see them as living in two different worlds for the most part. Seems to me they have pretty poor communication)
Amy Soria I think part of the reason we see Jamie outshining Cathy for most of the show is because this is a semi-autobiographical show based on Jason Robert Brown's marriage. Not to say that JRB purposely made Jamie a stronger character than Cathy to snub his ex-wife--he's my favorite composer and I don't see him as the kind of person that would do that--but I do think TL5Y is more Jamie's story than Cathy's, especially since from Jamie's POV it's in chronological order. That being said, JRB does hold both parties accountable for the disintegration of the marriage, so he's neither placing the blame or accepting the blame for his own divorce. At least that's how I understand the show. It's all open to interpretation.
I didn't know what to expect, as I have heard of the movie version of The Last Five Years, but I've only seen some fellow students perform it. I'm glad I got to hear this, so I know what to expect when/if the movie comes out. He sounds a LOT like the original singer mixed with one of my fellow students. I like it. :3
No "if" about it, 'cause it's made and soon to be released. I believe Harvey Weinstein made a deal to distribute it, back when it showed at the Toronto International Film Festival. They made the movie really quickly, back in spring/summer 2013. I've been excited about it since the news first broke that they were planning it, but I only just realized that the director is the same guy who wrote THE FISHER KING (as well as a bunch of other good movies, along with those he directed),. Richard LaGravanese. Looking forward to it even more now.
The pianist played a chord before he started... Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan and he is super talented, but he found his starting pitch from that first chord.
Pauline Lauron the previous comment is right. He found it very quickly after the chord was played which shows he had a very good idea of where the pitch was (:
oldmanmcnoober yes. As long as there's at least 1 chord, it's pretty easy to go from there. In choir we get starting 0irches because usually there's no instrumentation before the singing begins.
holy hell.. that was awesome, i still prefer NLB's voice, but you really can't argue hat JJ has great pipes... :D can't wait for the movie to come out!
