My feelings exactly when I hear certain songs from that era. "Drive" by the Cars is another one. "Dirty Laundry" by Don Henley is still another. But there are quite a few
@bleep77 I know I'm late to the party but I couldn't have said what you said any better. I just wish I could go back to that time and just take it all in, took it for granted when it was actually happening.
@@xe3498 when the rain begins to fall, don't take it personal, sweetest sweetest, do what you do , etc etc etc. All the jackson 5 songs too. dudes a legend
On the Billboard Hot 100, the highest number Jermaine Jackson did on the chart was #9. He scored 2 #9 singles which were "Daddy's Home" in 1972 and "Let's Get Serious" in 1980. This song peaked at #15.
This is the reason why no other Jackson made it to the level of MJ. The music, the video, the choreography, tge production, the lyrics are all just screaming 80’s, now compare that to any MJ song of that era & you can instantly see the difference.
This was a joint back in the day. The Jacksons would ALWAYS approach music videos with a cinematic sensibility. Whether it was Michael, Jermaine or Janet, they always dropped amazing music videos that pushed the medium further than any artist previously. I recommend Rebbie Jackson's "Centipede" as well as Janet's absolutely epic masterpiece "Alright."
And we cant forget about Janet, Ms. Jackson, if youre nasty. I loved all the Jacksons and got to go to their concert when i was little. I was mesmerized.
@@moonchild3130 Jermaine did well as a solo artist. Both he and Michael recorded solo albums as members of The Jackson 5ive. When the brothers left Motown, Jermaine discovered the group Switch and help write and produce hits for them. He also produced Whitney Houston's debut album which sold nearly 15 million copies and he also scored 2 # 1 R&B Hits
Good Morning. You're speaking facts. Michael had listed Jermaine as one of his musical idols and influences along with Johnny Mathis James Brown, Gene Kelly, Fred Astire, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Janet
I remember when this was on an episode of Pop-Up Video and every time you heard "Dynamite" in the song, a picture of Jimmy Walker as JJ from Good Times popped up. It was funny.
*lifesaver72 Don't forget the Prince episode for the song "Kiss" where every time he said it, a Hershey's Kiss or a picture of the band KISS would appear.
Its funny how I grew up on Thriller and the magic that MJ had. I have never even heard of this song 🤷♂️I was barely aware of Jermaines career but I had all of MJ releases. Dynamite!
Song did really well on the charts! Top 20 hit on the pop and dance charts, and Top 10 hit on the R&B charts! 1984 was a huge year for all of the Jacksons! Following the EXPLOSIVE success of Thriller (the album AND music video), all three sisters (Janet, Rebbie, and Latoya) had albums out with singles that all did well on the R&B charts that year, some that crossed over onto the Pop Charts (i.e. "Centipede" for Rebbie)! Jermaine's "Dynamite" album here produced several other hits too!! And of course the Victory album/tour was a huge success! The Jacksons truly OWNED 1984!!!! Such an immensely talented, legendary and influential family filled with some gifted musicians and entertainers!
Michael owned the 80s, 90s, 00s, 70s. let's be honest haha. Jermaine did pretty good too, Janet too. But Michael was literally changing history forever
Michael also had the HUGE success of the late 70s, Thriller becoming the biggest album ever, gaining dozens of awards, we are the world, billie jean, the biggest song ever, and on and on. And he was just getting started, with dangerous, bad, history. Changed the world forever
This video was shot at the Essex County Correctional facility in Newark NJ and I was there watching the filming as a guest of a Sergeant there. This video was filmed at the same time the Jacksons did the Torture video in NY
Eseercam It was documented that MIchael wasn’t going to do this video. He helped set everything up but gagged them the day of shooting. He agreed to do the Victory album and the subsequent tour, but that was the extent of what he was willing to do - aka no music videos. And those two things he agreed to were the result of his Mother Katherine begging him to do the Victory tour for the family. Jermaine reportedly refused to participate in the video because of Michael’s absence (he wasn’t going to be made to feel inferior by his little brother). Michael at that point was the King of Pop Music and Culture in Summer of 1984. Thriller’s sales were still going through the stratosphere after a year and a half (released November 30, 1982) and he didn’t need the money. A punk rocker on some retro show said even punk and metal kids purchased copies of Thriller. His crossover appeal was like nothing the industry had ever seen at the time. Thriller of course became the biggest selling album of all time. He was making $2 for every album sold which was unprecedented at the time for any artist. Albums were about $7-12 on average. That’s not to mention singles, investments, and endorsements (Pepsi wasn’t the only endorsement he had BTW). Michael’s was raking in $100 -$200 million a year at that point. So he was good. He even donated his payment for the Victory Tour to charity which is another unprecedented move as artist make the bulk of their money from touring - and that was the biggest tour ever. So he was secure to say the least.
This video is so much fun to watch. Loved the dancing. For some reason, I always get the urge to do the chorus moves. Jermaine was holding his own pretty well back in the 80s.
lyrics: I don't know too much but I know love the way I've been touched It's your love that heats me up And there's no such thing as too much 'Cause I don't know any better No, I don't know when it's time to stop, no All night you give me what I like Intense, high explosive dynamite Pure dynamite All night you supply the spark I like Intense, heavy dose of dynamite Pure dynamite Wild things can't be tamed under my skin and it's just the same I'm wading, ignited And there's no way I'll ever fight it 'Cause I don't know any better No, no I don't know when it's time, time for me to stop, no, no All night you give me what I like Intense, high explosive dynamite Pure dynamite All night you supply the spark I like Intense, heavy dose of dynamite Pure dynamite I don't want any…
y'all for get that the Jacksons are all related and all had the same dance training so of course their dance moves, performance demeanor and musical ideas are going to be the same
+Blingo Brown Check out his bass playing on "Let's Get Serious" live performance (think it's Arsenio show from back in the day), while singing. Definitely has rhythm. Best musician in the Jacksons, hands down, not that they were known for that. Underrated bassist!
This would be a shock to most Michael Jackson fans, but in my theory, I kind of think Michael Jackson was inspired by this video a few years later for what would be his 1987 video "Bad". The choreography is especially similar in the directing arena. In my opinion, this was one of Jermaine's best tracks out of his entire music catalog.
Well technically, Bad is a homage to West Side Story especially the choreography. Similarly with Beat It. Both took inspiration on that particular movie. I've seen the movie. Also, Michael said it himself, it was one his favorite movies of all-time, he wacthed it over and over every weekend since he was little.
+Alphawindman IVL oil was $28 a barrel in 1984...1 barrel =31.5 gallons..so for @ $30..they were good and slippery..jheri curl and all...let that soul glow!!
This is a helluva funky dance song. I loved it when it was new in 1984. It didn't get a lot of attention then, and is almost completely forgotten now. I don't know if Jermaine had much to do with this song other than the vocal, which isn't all that great. That backing track, though... wow!
I watched this video a couple of times at my girlfriend's house back in 84. It creeps up on me every few years and plays in my head for about a week or so. You always be the number 1 Jackson in my books Jermaine. Do what you do when you did what you did to us all man. Big fan
Jermaine can really sing. People just liked Micheal more. I think Jermaine's biggest mistakes was leaving Motown. That Motown sound is what took Micheal up
Actually, NOT leaving Motown was his mistake back then. His brothers all went to Epic Records by then. Yes, I do get that he and four of his brothers were at Motown in their previous lives.
@@JoseFigueroa-iz2on Jermaine was married to Berry Gordy's daughter, Hazel at the time. He had to make a tough choice, stay with his father-in-law or go with his brothers.
OMG. I LOVE this song, and this video.....everything 80s that I just LOVE. Jermaine Jackson has such a solid body of work...that is sometimes overlooked...
Without dismissing Jermaine's success as a solo artist outside of the Jackson 5 & while I'm sure he was never in competition with Michael, I can't even begin imagine trying to navigate a path for your talents in the industry (with the Jackson name) during & shortly after Thriller hit.
I love this video for all the wrong reasons. The choreography is good and cheesy along with Jermaine not being able to remember the dance cracks me up even more and them having to keep teaching him
Im just hearing and seeing this for the first time. Ive been discovering the Jacksons/Jackson5 work and after watching several of their group videos, its very very strange to see Jermaine dance! He and Tito always had their guitars 🎸
I do not understand why Jermaine was not more popular than he was. I suppose Michael will be the most talented in the minds of most people, but he should be at least on the level of Janet. That is my opinion.
Quincy Jones once said that they all were indeed talented, but he said Michael just had the "fire in his belly", he was driven and did the work to enhance his talent, he was a perfectionist. Its something he didn't see in his brothers. Lets be real, he was a bit eccentric, but I think he had a deeper talent that most people don't understand. He could play instruments, but preferred dancing and singing. He was a composer of classical music. He also was a gifted artist for drawing and sculpting, but we didn't find this out till after his death, there is a warehouse full of his paintings ,drawings, sculptures. He was multi faceted as an artist, very gifted, special person. I miss him.
They also have a lot of the same inflections on certain words they sing. The word "me" stands out whenever any of them sings it. You just know it's them. Very distinctive.🐾
I wasn't born in the 80s but I think back then music is better than today's music and I was born in 96 I listen to mint condition boys 2 men hi 5 and much more
I can't believe how time has flown since this was released! Jermaine was the bomb! Hard to believe he will be blowing out 70 candles on his birthday cake this December!
I REALLY liked the direction Jermaine was heading with these videos. He was far more masculine, and he was dark skinned, in a light skinned dominated era. He gave an image the rest of us could reach. His music was more mature too, than michael's ..
