Saw this performed by NYC Ballet at Lincoln Center today. The Novice: Sterling Hyltin, The Queen: Isabella LaFreniere, The Intruders: Andrew Veyette & Sean Suozzi. ALL BRILLIANT !. Same original costumes and wigs on all of the women. Stravinsky's String Concerto in D, Conducted by Andrews Sill. Program Note: There occurs in certain forms of insect and animal life, and even in our own mythology, the phenomenon of the female of the species considering the male as prey. This ballet (1951) concerns the rites of such a species.
Thank you for posting this. I am reading Jerome Robbins by Wendy Lesser and she writes a descriptive interpretation of this ballet. I am grateful to see the spectacular Bolshoi Ballet performing. Love when the chorus returns from the black at 11 minutes and the ballerinas jumping over the rolling man. Splendid.
This specific ballet is indeed the strangest experience. I cannot understand what was in Jerome Robbins 's mind when he choreographed this ballet, but certainly he must not have been in a very good mood? I disliked it a lot but it was an experience, in any case
@@thalismilisios2601 It definitely appeals to my warped sci fi/ comic book mentality. Not to mention, Legs, Legs & More Legs! (sorry. I'm 60 & will never grow up)
You haven't seen Robbins's Four Seasons then. Nonetheless I agree with you this ballet is trash. Go look up Robbins' seasons. It's true classical ballet with a bit of wit.
