_Did the girl, who wrote the front sleeve short story, on the July 7" split, ever write anything else published that I can get? I remember meeting Jeff, when Jeromes Dream came to the American Legion in Summerville, South Carolina, and I wanted to have a really long talk about how amazingly written Seeing Means More Than Safety was. It was such a sweaty show, and that's how we liked it. On long sunset drives, to this day, I still blast Double Who? Double You!_

it makes me happy to see another JD official page this far into history. i remember Erik making the myspace page back when myspace was a thing, and that was awesome, but so long ago. i remember being excited that some long lost footage or recordings would come of that, but not much did. just an awesome blog post i remember of Erik saying thanks. i hope i remember right. it makes me happy but at the same time i wonder why. maybe the same reason i decided to look up these videos tonight way past my bedtime. i watch these JD live sets and i find them endearing. no longer do i feel the music echoing externally how i feel inside, but i do recognize what these things were and that they were real. i feel compassion for the band in the video and for the kids rocking out at their shows, totally lost in the moment, having nowhere else to be that night, probably not much else to look forward to. i was way too young at the time to attend any screamo show, about 13 at this time. too young to even know these feelings but i would soon get there, and obsess over girls and get failing grades and disappoint my mom, some day distress her deeply, some day crash my first car while drunk and nearly kill my passenger, who had become my access to heroin and then stole my best friend from me and from the world when he introduced him to meth, which then was presented to me, and so on and so on. i failed the end of grade school but i got high honors in stupid. and i knew all along i was stupid. i knew that's why i had got myself into it all. and i couldn't stop. and it hurt. and very few things consoled me the way that this band did. certainly no people consoled me or even knew how profoundly dumb i was. how grimy that heart felt every day, from rusty, dim-lit morning into gloomy, pointless evening. but these guys knew. Jeff Erik and Nick were probably closer to me through their music than any family or friend at that time. time will still tell how much that meant to me i write this in hopes that some day Erik or whoever runs this channel will see and maybe be glad that their music could make such a lasting impact for good in one life. not that I'd be first or last to express this, but i am one life and God knows what that's worth, literally. about a decade ago i was deeply in love with this band. i thought Orchid sucked. i thought Saetia sucked. maybe if i had seen them live, but i didn't. i could never be one of those screamo kids that loved every emoviolence thing they could find just for being Chaotic. Usurp was pretty cool but they didn't hit me the same way. they nailed it once on "Born Different" but that was it. i wasn't a real screamo fan, though i enjoyed a good deal of it. i liked early Envy and Mihai Edrisch and some other stuff, but i couldn't support most of it. anyone looking for the epic screamo equivalent of JD should check out Corea from Spain. another short lived band; just part of the game i guess one thing i knew for sure, i was a Jeromes Dream fan. coming from a black metal and grind/hardcore background, i found the fulfillment of all raw music in JD. their stuff eventually made much of extreme music obsolete for me. they had everything. the instruments were tight, the songs never overstayed or underplayed, the vocals were the stuff of legend, literally, and actually my morbid curiosity about Jeff's blood-vomit is what got me to look so deep into Jeromes Dream. but it was the lyrics that locked it all in for me. the thought of some guy not only writing these terse, extremely poignant, RAW lyrics, but feeling the words so much he had to scream them out to the point of blood. i wanted to hear that and only that. it was as real as real could get; nothing else would do anymore. black metal became a joke, hardcore wasn't passionate enough, sentimental melodies i enjoyed could not wrench my heart the way this guy's crazy-bird-call vocals did over all that noise and feedback, and that spotless drumwork. i started at the end, because Completed starts off with Presents. i had no idea what i was hearing at first and no idea about their release history. downloading music is dumb like that, how much gets taken for granted. it sounded stupid. i shelved it and tried some other screamo stuff. you ever 'try to get into a genre'? anyway, one day i try it again and i get sidelined by "Double Who? Double You!", and it was all over. once again i had no idea what i was hearing, but not in a bad way. the ending of this song terrified me. it sounded like the end of my personal world, like nothing was gonna get resolved, that girl would never be mine, my friends would all leave me soon too, my pain would not be rewarded, and i was just going to have to live with that because the wheel turns on and on and on and stops for nobody. i listened to this song obsessively when it finally clicked what was going on here, again, out of morbid curiosity, like staring over a ledge and imagining the fall, all the while knowing it comes down to your choice, and yet feeling sucked in by that monstrous space between you and the bottom. the song drove me crazy and i couldn't understand why. then one day i did, and it completely changed how i heard the rest of their stuff, the old stuff and the rest of Presents, maybe all other music since. something had been stretched loose that would never be tight again. the thought that Jeff had been reduced to singing through a device (seen in this video) because his throat was so shot, and that his new voice sounded like this robot that had been programmed to sound happy but knew nothing of real happiness; something was just chilling about how he got to that point after 3 years of screaming out so desperately, without a mic. the voice on Presents sounds like it doesn't care anymore. the keyword is "anymore". it sounds like once it had so many burdens and pains, and then one day it just couldn't hurt no more, or feel much of anything else, and it stopped. "i am so much better now." watch videos of Jim Carrey the way he is now. people say he's enlightened but i think they're naive. who knows "catharsis" was a word i valued a lot at his time, 10-11 years ago. i listened to Jeromes Dream so many times on repeat, but something changed every time. some music just gets you deeper into the dumps and keeps you there and you're no better for it. most music is like that, i think. people talk about the power or the magic of music but that's a bunch of crap. the only power they're probably under is the gravity of their little comfort zone which certain music helps them to perpetuate. i got sick of that. i needed to grow. i needed to break through. maybe it was age or just being "sick and tired" enough of being stupid, but something had to give, and Jeromes Dream, rather than helping me perpetuate my negative feelings, helped me to give them a sharp edge to cut through all the crap and rise up again to breathe. Jeromes Dream was not ostentatiously chaotic like other hardcore. it had a point. it sounded like these guys, too, were trying to break through. to what? just get to the other side. whatever's there has got to be better than this. this is the music of turning a bunch of amorphous pains into a solid, sharp arrow and shooting it as far as you can. people might still say they were just another emoviolence band, but they don't know. or maybe I'm wrong, but this was accurate for me at the time. and i maintain that i was better for it. so much better that i came to not need to listen to their music anymore, probably just as they also came to not need to play it any more. or who knows what happened, really. but i like to think they stopped because they got better. some of those other bands didn't seem to get better. i heard of a hassan i sabbah member making fun of collectors of their records online. i saw pictures of a certain member of Orchid arguing with kids online not too long ago. JD may not be very visible these days, but I'm sure they're a lot better now. today i am a follower of Christ, for about 3-4 years now, and ultimately i give all glory to God for any good that happens in my life. but i contend that Jeromes Dream was one of those good things, and that God used them unlike any other music in my life to push me out of the mire of crap i had got myself into. if Erik or any of the guys reads this, thank you very much for the things you did as a band. i pray that any of you not knowing God will come to know Him through Christ, who died so we wouldn't have to wallow in death, here or in the after world (John 3:16). may God bless you all either way, and thank you again. the question probably remains, why, if I came to not need JD, did i come back to revisit any of these videos? i think i ate too much at our church function tonight, honestly. but it was good. the compassion i feel now is a better enjoyment than the deep identification i once had with all the noise. it's more pure, and i can do it this once and not need to keep doing it. just visit now and then. some memories are nice. thank you guys, whoever reads this. til next time goodnight

JEROMES DREAM wow thank you, Erik, for not only reading but replying and showing the rest of the band. i really can't express it enough how much JD, and Jeff's lyrics in particular, impacted me during the darkest time of my youth, but Lord knows i certainly tried on music review sites and in my journals yeeeears ago, so i guess that's where that sudden burst of praise boiled up from when i watched you guys playing again here after so long. signed up for the mailing list! I'll be happy to see what you guys are cooking up now after all these years. i really appreciate you still reaching out to fans even now; i think it's a sign of real good character to value the impact made by the work of your God-given talents, years down the line. it also makes me happy because it means that i and all your other fans didn't enjoy your music in vain, since you have not (yet?) turned out to be jerks. i hope you are all better than good! you guys are in my prayers. God bless

you don't really reunite bands like this. they felt something, they scratched it the best they could a few years; then it popped, and the scar is healed over many times by now. God willing, it's healed over just fine. but these are nice memories
