Weird as Shit why it was played so fast, I have to think that must’ve been intentional because Sean is usually pretty on point but what the hell have I was played at light speed, maybe they were just rushing through it because they wanted another song to be in the set list
@@puppetmaster8551 I agree with you thinking it was intentional. Jerry always played the intro at normal tempo back in 93, I think they may have felt it sounded better fast. i’d vote otherwise😁
Dude i hate it lol. This is one of their best songs and Sean ruined it every time they played it and they played it only a few times. It reminds me how Matt always ruined Jesus Christ Pose when playing live speeding up the tempo to the point where Chris just wasn't able to sing it. Like man we know you can play the drums can you f..king slow down please.
@@alexmason6191 Dude this has been on my mind for ages. Never seen anyone mention it before- how JCP gets fucked up every time live because of Matts ungodly tempo live...
this was said 4 years ago but, Jerry has never been "underrated"... he is an icon in the music industry and has been for a very long time. And especially never "underrated" by his family, friends nor his fans. (underrated my ass)
Agreed. Anyone into heavy guitar knows Jerry is one of the greats. Not saying his one of the greatest guitar players but his song writing and guitar tone is amazing. Definitely not underrated. There is a reason people are still excited for new Alice in Chains albums.
jmrebel306 huh? A Eddie Van Halen once said in the nineties that Cantrell was one of his favorite guitarists. How are you underrated when EVH says that about you ?
I love the story that Jerry said about how Rob said had no idea why he was working on degradation trip because it sounded exactly the same from when Jerry was doing it on the bass. Jerry said he was there for bass enhancement.
The guy's a "scab worker"....seriously, he was the one who re-recorded Bob Daisley's bass tracks when Ozzy cut him out of the first 2 Ozzy records. No REAL musician, with any scruples, would dare to record over the tracks of a legend like Bob Daisley. It's the lowest of the low.
So cool to see Cantrell & Trujillo together playing live. Hope they will make a reunion for the Degradation Trip album songs (with Mike Bordin on drums ofc)...I really want to see/hear them all together playing the songs. That would be a dream come true.
Glad I'm not the only one that feels that way. I have the guitar part down. It's pretty easy actually. I'm having a tough time getting the vocal down while playing the guitar.
@@truthisbest I started learning this song earlier today, for me it's the other way around, I can play the guitar part separately and I've got the vocals down, but then I sometimes fuck up the riff when I play and sing at the same time... Well practice makes perfect.... I hope. 😀
I'll say this... Jerry Cantrell n his new AIC lineup finally get too tour extensively now...They didn't get to do that in the mid-late nineties...I'm glad he gets too play original n new AIC material
TJ L I so strongly agree man and I hate that! I mean I grew up loving AIC and was a super diehard fan of Layne’s just as I was with Cobain and Weiland as well. They all three had their unique style and mystique (I guess that’s the word I’m looking for...idk) but to me rock music just isn’t the same without em. Of course, you just can’t have Nirvana at all anymore without Cobain. AIC on the other hand..? I mean, yeah I’ve liked some of their stuff thruout the post-Layne years but all the classics man? Hearing em played live in concert... idk I mean the singer they’ve had since losing Layne, he’s got a great friggin’ voice and can sound like Layne on a lot of songs. But being the Staley fan I am, it’s still just not the same without him. Same went for STP when they brought in Chester from Linkin Park. Man, that just did not work for me in the least bit and was just praying they would reunite with Scott. Now we’ll never get that again either which really sucks!
From Duvall's 2003 interview: "I lost my grandfather in the same week, so Cantrell and I both hit the road with immense personal losses dogging us. There were times on stage -- there was one show in Charlotte where it was just so heavy. I'm holding back tears onstage, and Jerry would start crying onstage too a lot at that point, and a lot of times we would just look at each other when we were singing the stuff because it was the only way...it was heavy. I can't quantify it really in words."
@@robhasenwinkle That`s the day he was discovered. He died either April 4th or 5th.... Same date as Cobain I believe. I believe He was discovered because his accountant noticed he was not spending money, and called his family to get a welfare check.
Jerry’s voice, You can feel the fire around us all of the time. He belted it like I’ve never heard him before. Great song and loved it since I first heard it in Last Action Hero. I think he wanted to make sure Layne heard him.
This performance is a perfect example that no one can fill Laynes shoes. Williams voice isnt bad, its just too clean, and it shows in this song. Laynes tone is unmatched.
Tbf he sounds way better singing with Jerry years down the line than he did here. This was well before he was in AIC and had only been performing these songs with Jerry for a very short period of time. Obviously he’s not Layne but he does a pretty damn good job singing most songs and he and Jerry have just stellar chemistry singing together, really shows when the 2 of them would just perform acoustically together. Duvall also sounds great whenever he does lead vocals on the last 3 albums. Layne can’t be replaced and is one of the best to ever do it but Duvall is a hell of a musician and a great fit for AIC even if he’s not Layne.
I'm gonna get hate for this but I never listened to post Layne albums, not because I didn't like the idea of William but I had this stupid mindset that I had to buy the CDs and listen on a nice stereo and what not. I eventually decided to just stream BGWTB and man, that album sounds like a mix of grunge and black metal. William's voice took AiC in the right direction. He sounds freaking phenomenal.

What The Hell Have I The face before me flies Laughs at me inside Masks are made to hide the glow Shining eyes Distance 'tween us grows Feeding lies It's hard to start things over You can feel the fire around us All the time Yeah Something I should say It takes you every day What you give is not alive Today Your soul served on a plate Throw it away It's hard to start things over You can feel the fire around us All the time Yeah It's hard to start things over Oh yeah You can feel the fire around us All the time Yeah It's hard to start things over Oh yeah You can feel the fire around us All the time Yeah All the time What the hell have I? Little pride
Sean is usually really good with tempo imo but he sped that performance up so much it was ridiculous. I wish there were more videos of this song being performed. This one is too slow and the other is way too fast
@@diego9660 by that they mean he either plays too fast or too slow, BPM is beats per minute. Anyway that really wasn’t something that happened often, Sean is usually very good at keeping proper tempo.
Didn't scroll down enough to see if anyone commenting on Jerry having a beef with someone that led to him spitting at them @ 4:20. Calling him out, waving at him, spitting at him, then pointing at him while singing the last " what the hell have I" portion. He wasn't happy with that dude.
oh God, yes we all know it ain't the same without Layne YES but can we stop talking about it? we love him, he was the best but now we've got William and Jerry, also Sean and Mike and we should FINALLY deal with it :)
julitacytryna we will never stop talking about him. You already know why. Alice in Chains stopped being Alice in Chains the moment Layne died. Jerry Cantrell and his drummer is all that's left of AIC That's not a band, that's a solo artist.
Great performance, but man, without Layne, it just lacks that certain special unworldly "gritty" quality that only his voice could convey....such a loss. 😭
Well, I know your comment is meant in a positive way but you (we) really don't/can't know it FOR SURE (if there's is an afterlife or something or nothing or whatever). Btw...Layne also declared in his last interview that members of AIC are not his friends...so (if I follow your theory) you also don't/can't know if he's really proud.
@@MLCrow That “last interview” with Adriana Rubio never happened and is a complete lie. It’s a shame people continue to perpetuate this BS when he despised the media towards the end of his life. Sean & Mike Inez would go to his home, call, try to visit, to no avail. The real fans know this.
@@Olubumni Well ok (I read it somewhere, I'm not even sure if it was the last interview btw...I mean "with" Rubio),...but you also can't know everything for sure (for example about his REAL feelings for Jerry, Sean & Mike I.). We can't really know , it's too personal...I also remember an interview with Sean saying he tried to contact Layne, knocking on his door many times...but Layne didn't want to open it...but maybe it's BS too. We weren't there so nobody can know it for sure. AIC is one of my favorite bands but it's better just to listen to the music in the end...as there are probably a lot of invented stories or maybe half truths /half lies...and we weren't there ...whatever. Be well.
The mix on this vid sounds like shit....however, I saw them at the Roxy on this tour and they were amazing. Vocals and guitar layers top notch. Such a treat.
