Mama let that boy play some rock and roll
Jazz is much too crazy, he can play it when he's old
He's too young for the blues, he's still inside his first pair of shoes
He's just a baby
Give that boy some freedom, let him move around
Don't get in his way, you'll only bring him down
Mama won't you let him, let him play some rock and roll, yeah
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll
Oh yeah...
Well, all right...
Come on now
Mama let that boy play some rock and roll
Jazz is much too crazy, he can play it when he's old
He's too young for the blues, he's still inside his first pair of shoes
He's so young
Give that boy some freedom, let him move around
Don't get in his way, you'll only bring him down
Mama won't you let him, let him play some rock and roll, yeah
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll
Oh yeah...
Well, come on now
Mama let him play, let him play
Mama let him play, let him play
Let him say what he wants to say
Mama let him play, let him play
Mama let him play, let him play
Let him say what he wants to say
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll
Come on now!
Ooo hoo hoo!
Hooo yawww!
Mama let him play, let him play
Mama let him play, let him play
Mama let him play, let him play
Mama let him play, let him play
Mama let him play, let him play
Let him say what he wants to say
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll

I've played with the guy before. He told me this song came from his mom wanting him to learn all the scales. But he was upstairs playing rock and roll. His dad said Mama let that boy play some rock and roll. That came straight from Jerry to me!

How cool is that! He showed up in Greg Allman's book a bit. Could have been a Brother. Said he didn't like the commitment of a band. Is that true? First heard the song on K-SHE 95 St. Louis in the mid 70s. Bought the album.

This tune deserves a LOT more respect AND air time from so-called R & R radio. If you're in your vehicle on a road trip, this tune is worth AT LEAST another 10 MPH on the speedo. My good friend from high school in the late 70's / early 80's tried desperately to land this song and album, an original album, in the 2010's and beyond. It took him a few years but he found "an original". Because of his determination, I've only come to appreciate Jerry Doucette's talent. I wish I had given him the acknowledgement back in the late 70's/early 80's that he deserved. Great song and BTW, great album

Thats funny 'cause my parents bought me this record from a pawn shop in Thunder Bay and its original from 1977. It was missing a sleave but otherwise in beautiful condition.

I met Jerry Doucette in a bar late one afternoon called the Copper Club about 30+ years ago in Victoria. There was nobody in the bar and he was just sitting there having a drink so I sat down a couple stools away. We started talking but it wasn't until later that I found out that he was a Canadian icon. It's a nice memory.

61 yrs old here and this song was one of my anthems from when it came out all through the 80's. Rarely hear it on the radio anymore ( unfortunately ) but always on my playlist Joe Walsh is My Guy and always wondered what it would've sounded like for Joe to accompany Jerry on this tune...I think they would've kicked the shit out of the guitar riffs together 💪🤙✌️🍻

Great tune. They don't make music like this anymore. First heard this song on 105.7 WAPL when I lived in Green Bay. Now I still hear it on 92.5 KQRS in Minneapolis.
