JOHN KAHNS' bass coming thru loud and clear. This is the best recording I've heard! NEVER hear KAHNS' bass so clearly, it just never comes thru. Great picture of backdrop and stage. Score another one for the gipper! 😁
I remember listening to the Warner Theater in D.C (3-18-78). and hearing the JGB show at a friends house late at night in 1982. It was magical. While not live, it was STILL one of those moments when one asked? Is it me? Is it Memorex? After multiple listens, for a year, this became a treasure, that one NEVER broke out unless it was a SPECIAL evening. Love those days. Love them now too. However, so many things at our fingertips almost reduces the specialness of them. Oh well. We evolve.
when catfish john started i could see in my minds eye john khan looking over at jerry and shaking his head smiling like he always did when the groove got extra thick
I love when Donna plays with Jerry. Their sweet soulful harmony brings me Goosebumps every time! Jerry knew what he was doing when he had her sing with him. Pure genius.
Donna did not back up Jerry with the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band for all those shows by mistake. Issues with Donna? Take it up with Jerry. She was a gift to us all.
The issue with Donna on the Dead had to do with the sound crew not liking her....and turning her moniter off. If they even put one up for her. She was only one casualty of The Dead being leaderless and giving WAY too much leash to the crew. Donna was and remains, the only trained vocalist they ever had. Ever. 🌹🌹
And Rolling Stone has Keith Richards ranked at # 5, of the all time "BEST" guitar players and you'll find Jerry Garcia listed some five pages back at # 46. - Give me a Break!!!!
the rolling stone votes are done by the people that read the magazine, not the writer. not enough dead heads give a hoot about commercial magazines that also do articles about ALOT of crappy artists. "we" know who can play a guitar and who cant, that's why we chose jerry!
Setting out side looking in your direction on a peaceful afternoon setting here by myself visions dreams all going through my mind wondering if they would have materials or just another fantasy
jer was more of an interpreter tho. he cowrote some songs with hunter but 95% of songs jerry played (jgb, jgab, legion of mary, any jerry outfit) were not his songs, be they traditionals, r&b, dylan songs, etc
I agree John is right there front and center ... I can't hear Keith ATALL though. I wonder if this was a FOB AUD recording? any source info on this recording? I just started listening ... perhaps it changes --- the odd thing is I can hear Maria and Donna just fine .... so it probably is a board recording ... Keith is just really really low in the mix .... oh well maybe he was having a rough night?
@KwaveD FOBs are great... bad mix happens often on soundboard, I guess it makes sense because it would depend on the speakers - they are trying to achieve good output sound, not input) That's why pre-FMs are awesome (but rare), great mix and not-yet-broadcast. Anyhow, I'm right now being followed by too-heavy Kahn-in-the-mix... just came here from a march '83 show that I had to stop listening too because the bass-line was too distracting, you could hear every note sounding like it was almost in isolation.
Toed up from the flow up 🔥😄🤙Elaine Oliveira's today's video....motiv8ted me here🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💞🍊🍰💨💨💨💨passes to you Maaan....hope you're doing well Fam!😋😎🤙🏾
Must have been spring 1975 Uncle Jerry at the Moore Theatre....Seattle........up there on stage was Maria Muldaur.......always thought she should have been in the Dead.....great singer....so shagadelic.......
Would it be possible to upload just Catfish John? I've scoured RU-vid and I think it is most pleasant version especially with Donna Jean backing vocals.
I added the time signature so you can just click the time in the description and it will take you right to the song. I'll still upload it though if you like.
That's predominantly Maria we can hear on Catfish John. Also, it really, really helps Donna to have someone singing in key right next to her. Doesnt help Jerry sing in key, though. Oh well, cant have everything. (Not that I'm bitching about Jerry, NEVER.)
Donna and Maria are certainly too high in the mix during the Cats jam, but the "interjections" are how Jerry wrote the damn song. You can easily find a better version (like the night before at the Warner Theater) with a better jam and where Jerry doesn't flub the lyrics. So dry your eyes and move along buttercup.
@@g51582 maybe the sound guy hated her? It's just weird that her vocals are good, but in general it seems like something is slightly...well like if you are roasting coffee and the beans are different sizes. It's hard to get a really good roast. I don't know, something is just a little unsettling when she sang with JGB. Good, yes, but unsettling or edgy. In a way Clarence Clemmons playing with JGB is the same way. I think it was the sound guy doing something a little off for both Clemmons and Donna. I know I'm wrong.
oh the irony of the song title you want to upload. Not only did you post it 4 times, but the song isn't even on the setlist. One of my fav dead songs tho, good taste.
