I understand why Americans can be so proud of Jerry Garcia. I'm only discovering this music, but every time I hear him I want to cry with joy and I have no idea why.
I know this comments a few years old but you're really not far off the mark. Jerry had an intense interest in folk music, and prior to the Dead (and I do believe during the early years of the Warlocks) Jerry taught banjo lessons
Off to Sea Once More 0:04 Friend of the Devil 5:30 Oh the Wind and Rain 13:21 Arabia 19:02 Sitting in Limbo 34:10 God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen 41:11 Ripple 49:37
Grisman brought out the Jerry we all know and love/loved...bittersweet stuff, went to these shows...jawdropping for I was expecting some LegionofMary thing but this....wow! ty Jerry and Grisman for bringing back timeless music
I'm almost 48, and I started playing guitar when I was 14, set 34 years of playing and listening intently. And after all of this time, I can say there are only a very few guitarist that I listen to that I can not only immediately identify because of their very unique sound dot.dot but with Jerry that unique sound also moves me so much more than any other guitar player's sound!. There's just something about his sense of Melody and the notes he chooses to play. It's like, as soon as the play button gets hit and you drop right into a live recording of just about any dead song from any year and that sound hits you and just makes you go ahhhh
This music has helped me develop as a human in so many ways and this is without a doubt the coolest internet video find I've seen in a year.. Cheers! 8-)

I love how earthy and mellow these shows are. It's like brushing your hand in a sweetgrass field on a gentle late summer day. I like to think these kinds of shows were grounding for Jerry.
this is some of my favorite stuff of his... and he looks really good here to think he would be dead in 3-4 years just sucks....someone that was so self abusive? was such a great human being to this world.... definitely was one of the greatest influences of my life, just love to hear him talk....such a smart human being still miss him 20 years later...
So do I. Miss him with my whole heart and for the same reasons. I think he was happiest when he played with Grisman and the boys. He was freer and the music was deep and melted into your soul from his. Love you, Jerry.
it's amazing. during that beautiful solo in Arabia he always references the song 'Hasta Siempre Comandante' by Carlos Puebla. It's about Che Guevara. One time I was walking by the restaurant One Market by the Embarcadero in SF and Jim K. was in their playing background music for the diners.
Jerry Garcia was a god amongst men! His soulful, mournful, almost child-like vocals are beyond perfection. Any newer fans, please listen to Shady Grove. The entire album not just the song. It is perfection!
@@dustinbaly 🤔 This was the very first song I fell in love with that Jerry sang lead vocals on. Oh The Dreadful Wind And Rain from The JGB I think it was from Almost Acoustic. Hard to remember that far back, plus it was on a burnt cassette tape. 😉 Ahhh the good old days. ✌🏿✌️✌🏻
he bought it at guitar center. it was a washburn. they had a scratch and dent sale. picked.it up for $450.00 + all allicable.taxes. came with gig bag and a pic
I've spent so many of my youthful years listening to this music. Dreaming about how they played such beautiful music....then I bought my first guitar 45 years ago... I've heard many shows from the Warfield. There's a ton of bootleg tapes. Now I see it for real. And yes, I've been on stage and on the radio playing Bluegrass guitar and Singing Friend of the Devil!!🎵🎶🎵💥💥💥
If you guys want hear more of Jerry’s classics check out Garcia Songbook by Joe Craven(guy on the percussion) and the Sometimers. Great retake of these classic hits
After Brent passed in ‘90 the GD become nothing more than a job to pay the bills, aside from a few random moments of inspiration. Jerry’s creative force went into his solo show and side projects such as this. This is the good stuff
I disagree. The post Brent music still had magic and beauty. Personally, I enjoy the 90-95 stretch. New tunes, different sounds, still the Grateful Dead, always delivering the lift I need.
@@paulleavell4317 read some of the quotes from the band/management from that era. They had huge overhead and needed the touring income to keep paying for it, even in the 90s.
Where else would we get our whaling ballads?? Shortage of guys willing to take on the dying art of....wait a minute.....why can't the Japanese..,. They can carry the torch and help lift the burden of the few whom have been carrying that load...btw I'm a total idiot and asshole (stereotyping Japanese as whalers... Pay no attention to my comment....or I should say comments....My idiocy may be contagious through the internet. And btw this song fucking rules....it's got all the top stuff.,drinking whoring gambling and being a proper miscreant from time to time throughout my years I tip my hat and raise my glass to the storyteller for his story was chosen by a helluva cat to be played for generations more. Thanks....... again Jerry!
Jerrry started in bluegrass! The great Bill Monroe, gave them the best advice! Henceforth Dead music, and Dawg music! Man it was amazing when they were together!!!
Yes indeed ! and beyond the "short" set list and exceptional playng, here it is : Off to Sea Once More 0:04 Friend of the Devil 5:30 Oh the Wind and Rain 13:21 Arabia 19:02 Sitting in Limbo 34:10 God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen 41:11 Ripple 49:37 This stuff is majestic ! PS : F--k people whose 35 people who "dislike", let them go to McDonalds
A sea shantie, a murder ballad, some middle eastern music, a christmas song, reggae and a couple GD classics. Jerry Garcia was the greatest eva! Hands down no questions!
Look at when all the comments were made. This music is timeless. People are moved one by one over the years. Jerry is special, and so is Grisham, but there will be many artists through the ages who help us remember our singularity and our boundless potential. God bless the human race. May we bask in the glory
I love hard pick on Sirius xm blue grass junction I think its del mccoury when he talks about david just the way he says the dawg it's the funniest thing WE LOVE THE DAWG
Thank you for this I was and am a East coast deadhead I remeber when this shows took place I was so mad I didn't get to be There. Thanks for the video you the man.
Thank you...This stuff brings back such wonderful memories of my younger days in the desert town of ABQ...where Garcia Grisman music seemed to be the soundtrack...
Great music : a little spanish, a little celtic and jazzy. A nice californian modern mixt thanks to Griesman and Garcia. LSD and hash was probably not necessery...
