The Jerry Garcia Band performs Eric Clapton's "Lay Down Sally" from GarciaLive Volume 8: November 23rd, 1991 Bradley Center. Pre-order at bit.ly/GLV8Milwaukee
214 thumbs down???? How? Jerry out plays one of the greatest guitar players on his own tune. People call elvis the king... i beg to differ. Miss you jerry ! Bigtime
Jerry did this at a nightime Ventura Fairground show in 94 that was absolutely off the hook. It's the hardest I danced in my life. Jerry and Melvin took it to a place that wasn't even Sally anymore. It was pure mastery that brought them back. I mean I thought they were lost in the most wonderous way but they miraculously found their way back to Sally. Improvisation in its highest form.
I dropped out of college and went to California because I heard he did this in San Diego so went to The Warfield and for 4 days swore they would play later on Sally third song second set other Minecraft to the point where everybody hated me but God damn it third song second set bam sweetest song ever so
No matter how many times I listen to this.. the moment Jerry butters into his first solo I get lost in time as the back of my neck gets cold for a few seconds
I picked up a guitar because of Clapton, I studied because of all of the Blues masters that came before him, I was fascinated by Jimis power, enamored by Pages sloppy goodness. In awe by Mr. Les Paul... But Jerry... oh sweet Jerry. You were so different. Hope to see you someday and hear you play live for the first time.
I was there, and remember it well. Great show. The music was beautiful. Jackie and Gloria harmonized sweetly with Jerry. The snowstorm after the show made it very interesting. Decided to wait out the storm in my 1986 Toyota 4x4...sat under an overpass near the Bradley center until around 4 am.
@@hippiejohn334 Nice comment Hippie John. With or without you-r remarks, I would still feel the same. I'm saying this on a Sunday, bloody Sunday. From: Me2
This was the best version of this song and the best show of that little mini tour in November of ‘91. Although the next night in Minneapolis offered a somewhat rare JGB encore of a beautiful rendition of Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong not Sam Cooke). After the Dead’s Halloween shows in Oakland and the shock of Bill Graham’s sudden death this little JGB tour was just what we all needed.
Never heard Jerry play this before today. I do, however, remember that date. It was my 19th birthday. Unfortunately shitty times, but we eventually got the ship turned around! Very cool. Thanks
Saw them (GD) and Jerry from 89-95 during the sunset of their careers. Certainly had some of the most memorable times of my life at both type of shows. The JGB shows were a breath of fresh air and 2 sets of only Jerry was pure bliss. I really appreciate any posts of the earliest Dead recordings when they were young, strong, hungry and had nothing but each other and their music....magical!
watching lots of Dead/JGB vids during the qurarrantine or however you spell the friggin word ... anyway, yes I agree!!!!, it's wonderful to experience side by side something from 1970 and then again from 1995. He really gave us his all.
This song lays it out....this is why I followed Jerry ....this man and all the talented individuals he brought along for the ride carved out an infectious groove.....and the long strange trip ain't over yet.......boogie on kiddies.......
Jerrys side gigs Bobbby s side gigs kept them fresh If you were lucky to catch a garcia show orva bobby show and saw the Dead rite after you will feel a fresh life The side projects kept them fresh
Clapton has been my favorite guitarist for 35 years. And I love Garcia and the Dead. This song, though … custom made for Garcia’s picking and plucking and John’s bass runs. Absolutely LOVED IT.
O Ren Ishii has no clue....saw jerry..dead.. jgb..others...old and in the way...since 71...first notes out of Jerry brought tears..almost everytime...Jerry we love and Miss you so much...ty again
I was usually flying and the first few notes made me cry...grounded me..im smiling..let's go! Love and miss thee big man...first show...71..Oakland ca..then, what happened???!!! :)
I caught this in Providence and Hartford on this tour. The Providence version is just completely insane. I honestly believe Garcia was dosed in Providence. Watch his facial expressions during this song, it's on You Tube.
i always come back to Jerry's version of every song, Clapton makes a masterpiece and Jerry puts his beautiful touch on it, Bob Dylan creates something legendary and Jerry comes along and sends it to another stratosphere, par for the course for the legendary Jerry
@@EDBOii-zy8zw Cream was the greatest band in the world in the late 60's. Words out of Jerry's mouth when he was at the concert! Clapton was top of the top back then, stop the nonsense!
The 1991 JGB Electric on the Eel River is the best version ever! Kahn on synth bass (don't think it was Melvins pedals). Anyway, it's PHENOMANALY UNIQUE. THAT ENTIRE SHOW WAS EPIC. Then came the weekend atop Squaw Valley!!!! Good Times❤
I moved into SF in 1974 ...oct! 2 friends and i ....and jerry [jgb] played lotsa wed nights [2 shows ] at the great american music hall for five dollars ...which ever of the 3 of us had the $5 went to the first show ...ans if you wanted some air in between shows, they would stamp your hand and allow you back for the second show.....So, since we lived right down the street , that person would go home press his backhand to his two friends and .....we were all at the second show! oh yes! let the good times roll...bobby grateful gutfleisch
Fifty one. San Rafael. Marin. Saw Jerry ten times. All in the house that Jerry built. California. Live West Tucson now. An acre in the Sonoran desert. Bliss
I loved the 20 min version of this he was forced to do in Albany due to technical issues. Melvin and the band really stepped up and we got to see the Wolf!~
Great show great tour as well Richmond was about to explode in bad energy with cops but thanks to music finally starting they noticed to change their minds slowly, shit soon some were groovin. Still some crazy scenes I've seen, Orlando gassing was outragous. Nice Jam...
I just saw a comment that said "This is church". A dear friend and I believe the same thing. Jerry music of any installation is soothing for the soul, and once you have gotten your fill, your soul regenerates and heals so to speak, so for us musical people it is church for us.
Ordered already! :) (Surprised that the FLAC download wasn't instantly available though....) Anyways... I was at many of these shows...my absolute favorite time period for JGB! THANK YOU for posting a track! (BTW, you should put up a link for the people to know where to buy it....) Melvin is doing a great job now w/ his band and is on fire (maybe even a little more so now then then...I mean even though he was "the master of the Universe" then...just think what another 20 years of playing has done ) Imagine what Jerry would sound like now if he were still here....:/ Crazy to think about though....I mean could he possibly have gotten even better? Kinda crazy to think about. Anyways....Peace!
Melvin and JGB play free outside in SF every year for Jerry's birthday at the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater if anything would ever feel like a 1980's SHOW it's that
Man that is so cool.. I'm out on the East Coast, but August is sometimes a time when we have business trips and maybe - just maybe one will be on or about 8/1..... (BTW my bd is 8/5
I'm sorry - how was I insulting? I was not being facetious about wanting to go see that show....was it that I said by bd was 8/5? By that I mean it was the shittiest bd I even had when JG passed... Sorry if I caused any offense....
@@SEPHICHI420 i could never understand the whole Clayton is god thing, back in the day that's what was being said. But back then there were far more guitarist around to say such a thing.
Reintroduced to this version. Had been getting tired of clapton’s version. Heard this version again, love Garcia’s take; a virtuoso. Yes, JGB advanced in later years; agree with previous comment that GD did NOT. But, I continue to absolutely love both bands.
