original music of the soundtrack The Edge composed and conducted by Jerry Goldsmith in 1997 starring Anthony Hopkins, Alec Baldwin and Bart the Bear, directed by Lee Tamahori that is previously unreleased material only have fun!
I hadn’t seen it in probably a decade and put it on the other night. Brilliant but the part where the bear kills Steven upset more than it used to. Horrific
This music is "married " so well to this movie.... it's incredible ! The same can be said for the music from "First Knight". Jerry Goldsmith deserved to win many more Academy Awards.... His music was pure genius.
One of the great Man vs Wild films, along with The Grey & The Ghost and the Darkness. Fantastic Goldsmith score on 2 of these. Totally underrated movies!
This movie is the opposite of a typical “revenge “ movie . The hero helps someone who did him wrong. Wonder if other film makers like Tarantino understand this concept.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE AND SOUNDTRACK!!!!!!!!!!!! My favorite part is when in the beginning the plane is flying over the beautiful mountains and the main theme is playing! Doesn't the french horns in the orchestra really fit the mountains?
+Jonathan Cox Absolutely agree Jonathan! And the sound of the Pratt & Whitney radial engine from the Beaver offers the optimal background sound! Chicken skin feeling
I was 17 when this movie came out. Just saw it yesterday and it took me to yesterday...a different time. The World was still so different in 1997 even though man was the same. Fan of the movie from Finland
I absolutely love this film, and the score. I've seen it a few times. But I can't believe no one has counted how many times Alec Baldwin says "Charles" in this film. I can't believe that is not a statistic on the net. Also, now you will notice it... you are welcome.
Goldsmith never let a movie down, but this is one of his last GREAT scores. I've been listening to it since the week it came out, and still never tire of it. He had such a knack for this kind of manly adventure score.
1:26 Shit gets real!! Jerry subordinated himself to the needs of the film, as you can hear. This score could be extremely generic and boring, but he brings in droning horns, bongos shrill brass glissandi combined with a percussive mixed meters. So few composers are experimental as he was.
and James Horner, Basil Poledouris, Michael Kamen, Maurice Jarre, John Barry, Miles Goodman, Elmer Bernstein, Henry Mancini and others. All including Mr. Goldsmith! RIP All Music Legends!
One of the greatest scores Jerry Goldsmith ever wrote. Sadly I believe it was his last. The movie itself was not so great but the score captured the beauty of the British Columbia locations brilliantly.
"When we get back... Me, you and your wife... we all going to jump into a hot tub... and uuuh, bare our feelins, and uuuh..." that Alec Baldwin cracks me up at that part! Lol
+atombot89 yeah those bear jocks can be uncomfortable they chafe a lot. I don't know how Hopkins put up with them.the tag inside the prop says Tony Hopkins hero. Maybe he wore a thong underneath to protect his taint? Anyway I'm off for a ten mile run in them now
In my opinion this movie was better than the grey two reasons, 1 Anthony Hopkins is a more respected actor and they used a real animal in the movie not some cheap CGI bull
***** I disagree, I thought the score worked really well in the movie- the mejesty of the wilerness, the wandering feeling, and the villainy of the bear with those horns. I guess I'm biased because I really like this movie. I do see your point it was not a big movie and Jerry was top-notch.
+iforgot87872 Woah! you described it better than I ever could! Specially about "the wandering feeling". Thanks for that. I really liked this film too, hehe.
+Adox TNW this soundtrack fits the movie, i watched it just tonight, and I just couldn't understand why I missed this movie, maybe because I was born 1 years before the movie came out *laugh* .. What a great story about life, friendship, forgiveness and the will never to give up and Think ;) . And on top of it the ending was near perfect, great acting .. Anthony hopkins performance was near perfect too :) ..
4exgold I disagree. This script is written by David Mamet, who is a renowned playwright and screenwriter. How would you say the script limited Hopkins? The script is the base which the actors jumped of off. Simply put, I think you're underestimating the weight and power of this script - which builds memorable characters, dialogue, and themes very well. It makes us feel like we're as lost as they are.
The edge is one of the best movies with Anthony Hopkins in it, it's amazing. Alec Baldwin played his roll very well also. It is about learning to survive in the wild, lost in the wilderness. It gave me goosebumps listening to this tune. It does every time I hear it. This movie is worth while seeing for anyone who has not seen it !!!!! Its A+++++++++++++++++++++++
Just saw this film today, had never seen it but it is now in my top 50 films of all time. Amazing message, and the score is fantastic! Reminded me of Alien 1979 at certain points!
This incredible soundtrack knocks you off your feet and sweeps you across the last true wilderness left in North America. Thank you, Jerry Goldsmith, for this musical masterpiece of wild Alaska!
Please upload the rest of the unreleased tracks. I saw the film recently and fell in love with the music and the official release of the soundtrack doesnt make the film justice.
My favorite movie score ever.Great movie, very underrated, and great characters. Anthony Hopkins character Charles was a brilliant man,and very mild mannered. How many people would have talked so highly of someone that stole their wife and tried to murder them.Quote:He died saving my life. When i heard that i dropped my popcorn on my wife.Did he really say that. That summed up his character, the man was dead what good would it have done to make him such a heel
Simply magnificent ! ....Film and score combine to make this an exceptional movie ! Special call-outs to Sir Anthony Hopkins, David Mamet's memorable and intelligent writing, and the stunningly beautiful & breathtaking cinematography !
