Definitely a great movie to react to. It's based on a book written by Myra, his wife (now ex). JLL did set a piano on fire, and Chuck Berry didn't want to go afterwards.
Dennis Quaid did a wonderful job on this movie. (He is more handsome than actual Jerry Lee Lewis). He studied hard all the performances of Lewis to get the expressions and moves right. Great reaction.
He also had the Killer himself there on set during the making of this movie making sure he got it right... If he didn't, Jerry would in an somewhat raised voice say, Denis' words, "yer doin' it wrong son yer doin' it wrong".. lol.. They must have had a blast making this movie.... Of course, this version of the event did actually happen.. He actually did aquire a can of lighter fluid and set the piano on fire.. There is no known video footage of it, so the movie version is as close as we're gonna get... Jerry Lee does talk about it years later in an interview which can be found on youtube and worth finding and watching...
This is Dennis Quaid lip syncing to an older Jerry Lee Lewis. Quaid wanted to do the singing, but Jerry was against it. Jerry re-recorded it for the movie. Please react to the early 1950’s live performance 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Jerry Lee changed music and TV forever, on the Steve Allen show. His first appearance, he kicks the piano chair out! Steve Allen standing in the wings throws it back across the stage! Steve Allen said, I realized right then, we just changed music and TV, forever!
Thank you so very much for not forgetting to say it correctly. Jerry "LEE" Lewis. Better known as The "KILLER". And not that Stupid Clown Jerry Lewis. Jerry Lee Lewis had a whole lotta class and could play the piano about as good as Little Richard who in my opinion was the Real True KING of Rock n' Roll and not that Puts Elvis Presley who not only couldn' dance half as good as Jackie Wilson or Prince. All he knew how to do was the shuffle, gyrate his body a little, was no more than a average guitar player with great timing, looks and dress good but whose singing was not even half as good as Tom Jones or for that matter Wilson Pickett. But anyway, Jerry Lee Lewis not only could play rock n' roll fabulous on the piano but jazz, blues, country, R&B or whatever type of music that you would want to hear including believe it or not, Gospel. And not only that but his singing was very, very good. Thank you so much Little Lady for playing some music that was gull of spiirit, full of spunk. It was truly wonderful. Have a blessed day. Adios.
One has my Heart, the Other has my Heart. Riding with Papa in his red Studebaker Skyhawk heading to the Boulder River to fish, 1957?. Papa turned to me and said, "That guy got problems." Following Jerry Lee ever since.
My favorite song is crazy arms! Ive been lusting over Mr Jerry lee Lewis since the 80s 😂! He was born in ferriday Louisiana! I love all of his music but she even woke me up to say goodbye is a good one. His southern accent won my heart along time ago. I was born in Louisiana too and never had the chance to run across him.
Back in 2017 there was a TV show, Sun Records, that I think you would like. It was a drama about how it came to be and the nobodies that became superstars.
Dennis Quaid does a really good job acting as Jerry Lee Lewis in this movie, but it would be good to see Jerry Lee Lewis himself, performing this song live, because he puts on a really good show.
You should review the real Jerry Lee Lewis’ live performances circa 1958. This clip is an actor lip synching to a re-recorded Jerry Lee Lewis overdub when he was in his early 50s. Watch a 22 year old Killer live. Big difference. There’s a clip from the Dick Clark Show (precursor to American Bandstand) from 1958 where Jerry Lee and his band are live and they use a firework or flash charge in the song. One of the earliest uses of pyrotechnics in a live rock n roll concert!
There’s a reason why they call him “The Last Man Standing”...He also stopped at a gas station one day and found the owner of the gas station was selling bootleg copies of his music, he picked up the whole display, brought it outside and doused it with gasoline, lit it on fire and left 😂
Jerry lee lewis actually did that lmao, he caught the piano on fire and played it until he couldn't anymore. All because he was made he had to open for chuck berry haha. Chuck berry actually refused to go on after that
No one matches Jerry Lee. Ray Charles is in another zone so not distracting from Ray at all. I wonder why no one ever put a show or album together with the two greatest.
@ karenpowell6063 ,Jerry Lee Lewis was Voted no.1 International Pianist in the 1980 's in u.s.Keyboard magazine out of 200 Piano Players , Rock ',n' Roll ,Blues ,Easy Listening , POP, Jazz, Country ', n ' Blues ,Boogie Woogie , Rhythm & Blues --- * watch him live at the Hammersmith odeon 1983 , Plus many more great Videos on the web.& RU-vid.
@karenpowell6063 ,P.S. Don't get me wrong ,I also like Fats Domino ,he was a great artist , However ,he wasn't as Versatile on the Keyboard as Rocking Jerry Lee Lewis.
The actor is Dennis Quaid, but the voice and piano is actually Jerry Lee Lewis. Some called him the "Greatest Live Show on Earth". Real good reaction. You must react to a live video of JLL. I too was at Sun Studios a few years ago. what a great experience. Great review!
@@The_Vanilla_Guerilla,Dennis did Play the Piano in the movie .However ,he didn't sing & Play the music ,Soundtrack ,Rocking Jerry Lee Lewis did Sing & Play the songs for the movie. A cd.was available also out takes which are on the web.& RU-vid. On JLL sites.
Title, Great Lawd! You bet it is! Jerry and Dennis were both great entertainers, in their own right, who surpassed all other talent during their careers. Eat your hearts out!
@ u-- no--- who ---- * YES ,Jerry Lee Lewis ,However you are wrong as re.Dennis Quaid ,he was never a Rock 'n ' Roll Legend !! ---- you can't compare Quaid with the Great Jerry Lee Lewis.
I loved your reaction because that was the same reaction I had when I first saw that I was like wow he set the piano on fire and kept playing! #BeyondLegendary
Check his song Whole Lotta Shaking. Jayy I hope you know this was a movie about Jerry Lee Lewis staring Dennis Quaid? The voice and piano are all Jerry Lee Lewis. You should track down actual video of him.
In an interview years later JLL commented on how stupid it was... That hecwas trying to one up Chuck Berry... He said him and Chuck were good friends and they even recorded stuff together later in years...
@ TheFarmerfitz , they only Played together on stage a couple of times ,one in the early years in Australia & the in Europe in the Late 80'S also Bo Diddley --- they all Jammed together at the end of Jerry Lee 's show. --- * I made an error , it was 1992 In Paris. It's on the web.& RU-vid --- * under dr.lucio. --- * Plus Jerry & Chuck did Jam together in the 80's
Story behind the fire: That really happened. He was scheduled to close out the show, but they gave it to Chuck Berry instead, so Lewis put on an epic performance to make it impossible for Chuck Berry to upstage him. Lewis recalls saying, "They forced me to do it saying I had to go on before Chuck." True rock n fucking roll.
Some say he could've been the King of Rock 'n Roll instead of Elvis, if it hadn't been for his scandalous (though legal) marriage to his 13-year old cousin. That derailed his career for over a decade before he made his comeback.
Of course, the film didn't bring up his 13-year old girlfriend that he ended up marrying when she was 14. This publicity pretty much ended his popularity.
@ ollietab1704 , Yes ,However ,Jerry Lee Lewis worked his way back doing sell out shows in UK.& Europe --- the saying was Rock 'n 'Roll's the thing & Jerry Lee 's the King !!
He did do an excellent job. Is that JLL's 13 year old cousin? Hey I'm a proud Hillbilly and that's how we roll. 😎 On my dad's side my Grandpa was 17 when he married my Grandma when she was 14. Again, that's how it worked back then. What do ya think a quinceañera is? Or a comin' out party? It's a public statement SHE'S BREEDIN' STOCK Y'ALL!!!! Again for 1,000's of years and more once a girl was menstruating it was time to get her married off. In the Land of the Piano there are 2 ways to play them: 1.) Tickling the ivories 2.) Bangin' the 88's I leave it as an exercise for the student to ascertain Mr. Lewis' style. 😎
This isn't Jerry- This is an actor who played him in a movie...A movie with such bad acting! Please watch the real Jerry Lee Lewis -(he married his 13 year old cousin, btw)
@@orangeandblackattack ,The Fact is that Jerry Lee Lewis didn't like the way that he was being Portrayed by Dennis Quaid in the Film. --- Quaid didn't Portray Jerry Lee Lewis Correctly !! ---- * originally Mickey Rourke was going to be the Actor to Play Jerry Lee.
Jerry Lee Lewis didn't have to copy anyone. He came from a family of piano players, his cousin the Reverend Jimmy Swaggert, who played the piano and sang on tv as well as his cousin, famous piano playing country singer and founder of Gilley's Bars, Mickey Gilley. You can't watch him perform and think he's copying anyone. He was a wild man on the piano. Why can't they be considered to have similar personalities? I'm sure if you go back even further in time, you could find another crazy man on the piano, and someone could accuse Little Richard of copying that person. There's just no need to be derogatory. Both Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, despite their controversial private lives, were extremely dynamic and innovative performers who brought a lot of joy to us back in the day.
Married his thirteen year old cousin. That ended his career. If he hadn't done it, then I believe he could've got as big as Elvis. Fair enough, Elvis met Pracilla when she was fourteen and he was twenty four, but he married her when she reached twenty one. Jerry was a bit of a twat though in comparison.
@ susanjohnston8267 ,--- NO Jerry Lee Lewis wasn't a bit of a twat !! because he married Myra. --- Anyway ,he kept on working the club's , Campuses ,selling out on UK.& European tours !! Plus recording fantastic Live albums & studio output.
@guitarman8462 , * Down south a Person can get married at that age , that's if you get the Permission of Parents. However ,Jerry Lee Lewis didn't get Permission & he wasn't divorced from his second wife.
