My parent's and Grandparents were invited to watch the filming because a lot of the crew were staying at the hotel,that my parent's had their engagement party in,at the same time.They asked if they could join the party.My parent's and grandparents met,Jerry,Sammi,Peter Lawford and had a lovely picture of Sammi on the motorbike ,with my mum and Nan either side x

It is hard to believe that Jerry Lewis was actually already 43 years old here but he was that age. He always appeared much younger than his age up until the early 1980's. He aged well despite many injuries doing his comedy stunts or move, working many long hard hours without any rest and health issues in extreme body pain for years.

Lewis played a goof really well. He seem so kool & normal when not playing that part. Go to show he was a great actor. I do know Dean Martin was real kool with Sammy so much so. That when in that time period when they tried to put Sammy in the colored only section. He wouldn’t allow it. Lewis & Martin have my love & respect to the fullest. Plus always enjoyed watch them. Yes they were best friends, and the term "colored" back then was used. NAACP uses the term in their title.
@davidbeverly6411
@davidbeverly6411 3 года назад
@@givethechanceakid Thanks for the history lesson, but your explanation is superfluous. The term 'Negro' and some more 'derogatory' terms were also used back in the day, as I'm sure you're aware. The NAACP, which was founded in 1909, still uses 'colored' in their title, but calling Black folk 'colored' is something they probably wouldn't recommend. I just found Jerry's reference to Sammy amusing. I know he didn't mean it in any 'Negative' way...

Dean most certainly liked to drink. His wife put out that it was apple juice, but he said himself that he hated apple juice. That was used as a prop at times though. According to those he worked with, he drank watered down whisky on stage.

How come no one had enough sence to call African-Americans; African Americans in 1969? It never really stuck untill the year 2015. No one had a clue. Not even colored or black leaders; it's like we (they) didnt know what to call ourselves (themselves) And at age 9 I was pretty stupid myself; AND PRONE TO MEDIA BRAINWASH..
@ghanasoul

The film he’s directing is “One More Time” with Sammy Davis, jr. and Peter Lawford. It was a major flop but it’s nice to see behind the scenes footage of Jerry directing. Didn’t like that “cute little colored guy” crack he made. If he said that around brothas he would’ve gotten his ass kicked!
@givethechanceakid
@givethechanceakid 5 лет назад
Sammy Davis Jr was Jerry's best friend. As for what he said, that was acceptable language back then. What do you think the NAACP stands for? The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Sammy was quoted as using the "colored" term himself. "My mother was born in San Juan. So I'm Puerto Rican, Jewish, colored and married to a white woman. When I move into a neighborhood, people start running four ways at the same time."
@ghanasoul
@ghanasoul 5 лет назад
givethechanceakid Of course. Everyone knows Sammy and Jerry were friends (cuz Jerry says so ha) technically it wasn’t cool to call any black man colored after ‘68. I KNOW Jerry meant no harm and yes Sammy called himself that durin the Rat Pack days. However, James Brown recorded a song called Say it Loud I’m Black and I’m Proud. Calling a black man colored after that song and at the height of the black revolution movement was considered passé. And yes i know what the NAACP stands for. That name needs to be changed IMO.
@givethechanceakid
@givethechanceakid 5 лет назад
Are you saying that Jerry and Sammy weren't friends with that little remark? Jerry and Sammy were many photos together going back to 1951. Sammy was Jerry's best friend, and Sammy loved Jerry and Jerry loved him. They did many shows together throughout the 50's-80's. Jerry was also instrumental in fighting racism in Vegas and other places where African American performers were being treated poorly and their accommodations were none. The Four Step Brothers performed with him often, and he and Dean Martin made sure that they did not perform anywhere that would treat them without respect.
@ghanasoul
@ghanasoul 5 лет назад
givethechanceakid oh i know. Now that i look at the clip. Jerry said that with love.
@bunnyhop3211
@bunnyhop3211 4 года назад
@@ghanasoul Funny how words change over time for skin colour. Now I've heard 'black ' is wrong and 'Person of colour' being used, which sounds pretentious. White is white, but we are all really different shades, and all are beautiful. Don't ever think Jerry was racist. He understood the struggles at the time, he was picked on for being Jewish. He cried his eyes out publicly while paying tribute to Sammy after he died. It was heartbreaking. 'Jerry Lewis -Sammy Davis jr. Tribute.'
