Jerry Reed is an amazing an under-recognized talent with the guitar. Yes, he was the coach in "The Waterboy" but probably best known as the truck driver in the '77 movie, "Smokey and the Bandit" featuring a '77 Trans Am and Burt Reynolds/Sally Fields. Need to watch the movie and the song will make a lot more sense.

Reed did a lot of good songs. Most of them upbeat and a little tongue in cheek. "Amos Moses" was a good one. "Lord Mr. Ford" was really funny.

Yeah it is short. Though there is actually Two songs (Eastbound & Down / westbound & Down). (which I only recently learned myself) Granted, they are pretty similar. (not quite "identical") But I think if they had released the entire thing as ONE song, it would've been fine. (in length) But I still love it anyways.
