Those Southern boys had more charm than ANY other bunch of guys...Jerry Reed and Jerry Clower were two of the funniest, cleanest comedians ever and their humor is missed beyond words. R.I.P fellas...heaven has to be constantly laughing
I love about 30 minutes from where Jerry Clower lived. I went to SMCC with his grandson. I had the privilege of being told the Coon Huntin' Story, and Marcel's Talking Chainsaw at his kitchen table. That was 24 years ago, and something I'll never forget.
I had the pleasure of meeting him in Seattle when smokey and the bandit was released , he was promoting the movie , he was really sick with bronchitis , but managed to belt out that famous song》 east bound and down. Sure miss him. Love you Jerry. Rip.
My wife, & I met him & Burt Reynolds, at the premier of Smokey, & the Bandit II, ... it was a great summer day, & somewhere I still got the soundtrack somewhere, ...
Jerry was a True Professional and there is no way he would have disappointed fans. One of my friends was Dottie West's Drummer, and he had me back-stage at a concert where, as soon as the concert was over, she had to be taken to the hospital for fluids and was in the hospital for days, "Because" she did not want to let her fans down. I know there are those that will not get why I said this. But I think you will. They appreciated their fans and would never let them down. Thank you Glenda...And...Jerry??? East Bound and Down...(into True Professional Musician Heaven).
He did a small concert in Cordele and we all had a ball ! It was up close and personal, Jerry did some things on that guitar that was AWESOME!!!!,every one talked to him and the band. It was a party ! It has been 25 years and I still can't remember a more fun time than that. He and his band are so talented !!
"Bubba" was the Vice Wing Commander (second ranking man on the base). He was a lifelong Jerry Reed fan and wanted nothing more than to take him for a ride.
I bet Bubba had the time of his life. Imagine giving Jerry such a memory it became a part of his act. I love Jerry and with Burt’s passing I’m watching a lot of them.
Jerry was playing for journalists attending Disneyworld’s 15th anniversary when a pilot in a biplane started doing aerobatics above the covered stage. Jerry sees his audience looking up so he sidles up to the front of the stage so he can see, too. Got a big laugh.
My dad, "Bubba", also got on stage and played the spoons while Jerry Reed was performing his concert that night. Jerry thought everyone was cheering extra hard for him at first, and then he turned around and saw dad going to town with two spoons. One of the best USO concerts I've had the privilege of seeing. Mr. Reed was such a gentleman, and by far, one of the funniest men I've ever seen.
jerry could tell a story that makes you laugh so hard tears just roll outLOL LOL he was one good comic an actor music king in story telling songs. loved him!!!!
He is one song writer who can put his stories into a hit song Amos was one when you’re hot youre hot another she got the gold mine and I got the shaft he claims they are all true story’s
Love the " Alabama Wildman". Not one single cuss word and had me rolling. Ain't no comedians can do that anymore. Jerry Reed and Jerry Clower, what a team.
dw hunter back in those days we had great comedians who could do their routine without cussing, Bob Hope, Jerry Clower, Jerry Reed and many many more that came before them.
Jerry Clower could make you see the scene, just like Reed could as with this story. Saw Clower in Waycross, GA at the 1976 chamber of commerce annual show.
Take a listen to Tim Hawkins. You’ll be glad you did he is an absolute genius and ZERO cursing. In my mind, a real comedian doesn’t need swear words. Enjoy!
geez, i had to stop the video, i just had hernia surgery 2 days ago, this was so funny i am afraid of tearing the mesh. when i heal, i will come back. it's just too funny.
I made it a point to see him at what was called Concerts in the Country here in North Georgia. It wasn't all that long before he was called home. I recall him introducing his wife. He said they were both Southern Baptists. He added that he was a little bit more Southern than her, and she was a little bit more Baptist than him. Great show, great man.
Just now stumbled across this for the first time ever and almost became dehydrated from laughing so hard. Yessiree, nothing like good, clean, Southern comedy -- Reed, Clowers, Stevens, Grizzard, and a host of others. First time I ever went up in an airplane my cousin took me and my 3 siblings for a ride in a little Cessna. I was in elementary school at the time. He was working on getting his commercial license so flew as often as he could. He took us to New Orleans and back and in route, just like Bubba & Jerry, he did all the tricks he had learned. I thought it was magical, like being on one of those amusement park rides we flew over along the lake in New Orleans that night. We did barrel rolls, straight up, straight down, every which a way but loose. I LOVED it. One of my brothers got down and kissed the runway when we got off the plane and said he'd never fly again as long as he lived. This is the kid who used to run the ditches barefoot looking for water mocassins and later became a tree surgeon, climbing big old tall trees with a chainsaw . He almost kept his vow. The Navy made him fly one time from one station to another once, maybe twice, but other than that he never got on another plane. I, on the other hand, have been on quite a few planes, civilian as well as military. Got to ride up on the flight deck of a couple of C130s over the Alps, and have been on a few other larger cargo planes but never got to fly in a fighter jet. I may be kidding myself but I think I would have loved it. One of the last items on my bucket list is to go up in a glider. Tame stuff compared to an F16. LOL
When I was 12 in 1977 I walked down to the Briggsmore Theater in Modesto California to see Smokey and the Bandit. I still remember the stacks on the KW starting up. Those were the days for me.
Air Force version of : " Well, if I can keep it on the ground When I put that hammer down Then I'll be Texas bound and flyin' I've got my 10 in the wind Let it all hang out again 'Cause how're you gonna win If you ain't trying Well, now we're all back together And we're burnin' up the road And that old Sheriff's doggin' us today He thinks he's really got it cookin' Plans to do a lot of bookin' Only trouble he keeps lookin' Where we've already been So, if I can keep it on the ground When I put that hammer down Then I'll be Texas bound and flyin' Well, if I can keep it on the ground When I put that hammer down Then I'll be Texas bound and flyin' I've got my 10 in the wind Let it all hang out again 'Cause how're you gonna win If you ain't trying Now 'Smokey and the Bandit' Is a tale you don't forget Every time you time your hear An engine scream and whine Well, you have to think about Ol' Bandit Ol' Buford, Frog and Fred and Snowman Their story is a legend that will live on in time So, if I can keep it on the ground When I put that hammer down Then I'll be Texas bound and flyin'"
Jerry Reed never met a stranger and always had a kind word or a joke of sorts. Seemed like he coulda been family to anyone who considered themselves to be a fan
My dad was a defense engineer in the Air Force and yep, he is right, those fighter jets are lots bigger than you would think. When I was a kid, every time I got to see a jet up close I was always amazed at how big they really are.
Yup there a phantom gate guardian o was allowed to climb on and look around it just boggled my mind how big and high off the ground it was at a distance it wasn't much but when you get close enough to touch it is a different story
AIN'T THAT THE TRUTH I KNOW/KNEW FROM SEEING AN F14 UP CLOSE COMPARING IT TO WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO A CARRIER IN THE MOVIE TOP GUN I CAN ONLY PRESUME HOW BIG A CARRIER IS IN REAL LIFE WHEN YOU COMPARE THEM TO AN F-14 I COULDN'T EVEN BEGIN TO FATHOM AS TO HOW BIG A CARRIER IS 😠🙄😤🤦♂️🙂👍👍..!!
I did a hitch on an F16 base... The maneuver he described on taking off is called a "seven G max climb" and it takes you from 0 ft to 15k ft in about 11 seconds. I got to ride in the F16B, the "B" model is also known as the "family" model. He's right, the craft is nothing more than a giant rocket 20th a seat strapped to it. :) And, in the grand scheme of things, the F16 is actually pretty small, the F4 is huge, comparatively. Lol. They are like a bumble bee and, like it, isn't supposed to fly. They just give it so much boost it scare it into the air, it's also called the flying brick. :) But, the FUN plane, is the A10 "Warthog." Yaaaa buddy. The flying bathtub. It's low and slow and will turn right out from under you. You sit in an armored tub in the plane... So you don't get your nuts shot off! (Ann other stuff, too). Truth.
Now this is what I miss from the good old days, laughing so hard with tears arolling down my cheeks and nary a single cussword from the Snowman nor ol Bubba... Loved me aome Jerry Reed comedy..
Just so much talent in one person. I have loved his guitar licks and one of the best at it. Could act with the best of them. After this story I was ringing my hankie and I fear I have no tears left in my eyes!
Comic story tellers now days don’t even come close to Jerry Reed or any of the other comics of his day for that matter. Those guys were funny without resorting to profanity, which is disgusting and not at all funny.
Thank God for Jerry Reed. Lost a friend that served in the Air Force. This helped to bring me back from that place we all go when we lose a friend suddenly.
I saw his show at Misawa after the flight. He flew one of our squadron birds. The show was great and he was wearing his flight suit (which as wet from getting sprayed down after the flight, an Air Force tradition). A really great show for some folks far from home.
Bill, I played guitar on that tour with Mr. Reed. I have a few pictures, wish I had more. Have you any? thanks for your service. Jerry was in awe of you men & women.
I wish I did, it was a really great show. Thank you for coming all that way and putting on a truly great show. I remember him talking about the "elevator" at the end of the runway when he performed the max performance take off (straight up!).
We don't have real comedians anymore. Or music. We still have memories and old videos from when there was comedy and music, though. Jerry, we miss you, brother.
d.w.Hunter I like your description of Jerry Reed, and it’s always great to hear his talk of just about anything. As you said it’s great, not one cuss word and a great speech by a great all around person+ . This is a great vlog, and I have subscribed and give a high five. Thanks a million!
3/16/18 & just found this on RU-vid. GREAT & TYPICAL of this famous/well loved guy....so simple & "down to earth" except in this Air Force story! LOL! GOD BLESS!
I'll never forget the acceleration of the plane we took off in in vietnam. A jet assisted takeoff from a dirt road. 180MPH in about a quarter mile. I'd love to feel a catapult shot.
Life Support folks tell me that most flight suits get amazingly nasty, especially on ferry flights where finding your way to the piddle pack can be problematic. (VERY problematic in the case of the pilot who had to eject when his lap belt got wrapped around the stick and he adjusted his seat!). Their job is pretty skate though.
This jerk from Boston has become a Reed nut. We just didn't grow up with him....not completely our fault. The best all around entertainer ever. No one in his league. He made a lot of people smile while he was here. One way or another he reminded us all why we're here., For fun and games. God Bless Him
i had to watch, and listen to this again, that is so funny, good thing there is no video action, my eyes were so teared up from laughing i never would have been able to see what's going on. saving this one.!!!
once when I was at Luke AFB I was on a convoy from FT.Bliss to the NTC at FT.Irwin and as I was on guard duty at our weapons truck that evening ,I was watching a F-16 take off and I told my Platoon SGT.take I would love to do that and I still remember how hard he laughed and he told me that the U.s. Government did not let crazy Hillbillys fly expensive pieces of equipment and for me just to dream about driving his jeep .lol
This is as close to it as I can find. He kept the flight suit they gave him and wore it onto the show. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k9jLWuOo-w8.html
Same here, grew up on all the greats. Jerry always looked like he was having a natural ball no matter what he was doing. Superb guitar picker and entertainer.
Omg... gotta love Jerry's storytelling abilities. I literally have tears running down my cheeks. I'm sure my roommate heard me laughing so hard & probably thinks I've lost my damn mind. Loved this story! What a guy- great musician, singer, actor, & comedian. And handsome as hell to top it all off. Quite the package!
I wouldn't say an F-16 is huge. Been around a lot of jets. the '14 Tomcat or '15 Eagles are huge, like your beefy Rottweiler. An '18 Hornet is like a 'Shepherd (or a Rottweiler/Shepherd mix for the Super Hornets), but a '16 is far from "huge". It's like a Whippet: Not big, not small, but fast and maneuverable enough to wish you didn't get into a close-quarters knife-fight with them.
