Jerryism #51 comes to you, with a very heavy heart, from the southern shores of Lake Superior in Marquette, MI where the gales of November came early and took the lives of people who tempted fate and ventured too close to the powerful waves.
As I was filming, one young man ventured out on the Blackrocks for a photo op in 60mph winds with 25' waves and was swept into the lake (see post below) but miraculously made it out alive. Two others apparently did not. According to sources, one was knocked in and was able to get out just before they were both knocked back into the lake and swept away.
PLEASE do NOT mess with the power of Lake Superior. Yes, it was risky to go out and shoot this. However in the extreme shots of Blackrocks I was high above the lake zooming in from a wide protected ridge and secured to a tree.
This video also includes shots from many other points along the city of Marquette beaches.
My deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who were drowned.

I grew up in Marquette and learned to swim in Lake Superior. in high school we lived on Hewitt Ave.across the street from the little green house on the Beach. I graduated 1975 ,went to NY. ,came back & the sound of the train moving on the tracks was gone, 5 yrs.later the water from the spring on Hewitt Ave hill ( with concrete castle over)was " Not Safe for Drinking" next visit, the coast guard had blown up my beloved FOGHORN😞, my cousin Fred Rydholm told me they had no permission to do so. the moral of this & all stories are Mother Nature is the one who is Truly in charge in our World. Man kind removed every sound from my childhood, except the one they were Not able to remove ,Lake Superior 🎼 the least & the Best we can do is Preserve it.🌎

I live on the shores of lake Erie, I know how powerful Erie is when she's mad. Lake Superior dwarfs it. Always respect the great lakes

Thank's for showing the force of the "Big Lake" Jerry! My sister lives on Ridge Street and she said her neighbor witnessed the couple swept into the lake yesterday, very sad!!! Be safe out there!

My daughter was up on those very rocks on Monday. During the summer she used to cliff dive off those rocks. She thinks those rocks, where the man was standing are 15-18 ft. high. She saw the swells on Tuesday, amazing. She also had never seen anything like it. She imagines the water must have been very cold. The man who survived was truly blessed

I am not a local but I grew up by the ocean in Denmark, and we know that the power of water has to be respected. It is beautiful but life threatening.

Reminder to the non locals, and locals do not attempt to be near lake superior when we have storms like this. Extremly life threatning. Message to our emergecny people, we need highly trained individuals near these places to keep people away from danger.

Sorry, but people have to take care of themselves! If they are STUPID enough, after plenty of warnings on TV and in papers/ on internet etc, to be so close to the lake then its their fault if they go in!!

Nothing can compare to the power and force of Mother Nature. You don't mess with her. So sorry to hear about the missing couple.

Those rocks are about 15 feet above the water for scale. The ones shown for over a minute in the beginning. Its called The Black Rocks. People jump off of the rocks for fun in the summer. Lots of vids on here showing summertime action.

Two people died at the Black Rocks that day. They just found one body a few days ago, other still missing. People seem to think they are at a water park.

Hi Debra, I use an iPhone 7. The image stabilization makes for smoother shots even in 60mph winds.

purestskin don’t think it’s a ‘valuable’ lesson when it’s death.
