Marciano was more than a boxer, he was a fighter. The man had heart and grit you rarely see today. If he could of trained in today's camps, regiments with the advancements in diet, recovery supplements etc he could of fought anyone.

Wallcott was a menacing monster. He hit like a sledgehammer and had a head like a rock. He was by no means a normal man. He tossed boxers all over the ring like ragdolls on a regular basis. Only the best boxer in the world could have pulled off a victory that night over Big Bad Joe. The fanatical conditioning of Rocky paid off bigtime. Old Rock was about a half inch from being destroyed in this fight. He showed a lot of guts here! I guarantee he was feeling it after this fight for about a week and a half. What a Legend!

Most people are not boxing experts or great boxing coaches. Marciano would have taken away Ali's jab. It would have been somewhat similar to the Frazier/Ali (first) fight, but even worse for Ali. Marciano would have (relentlessly) gotten on the inside with Ali. No boxer ever had Marciano's endurance. Marciano had fantastic ability to take a punch. He would have worn Ali out. Marciano hit really hard. The way Ken Norton beat Ali clearly proves that Marciano would have beaten Ali. Marciano's natural fighting style and his formidable strengths would have resulted in his victory over Ali.

Marciano was a tough son of a bitch with unbelievable power. His hit could be a one hit wonder. He had endurance and heart as well. Tyson was faster, placed himself in advantageous positions, threw combinations with both hands with those punches having knockout power. He never had any issues going 12 rounds in his prime, and looked like he could easily go to 15. If he cared about the fight and if he had the eye of the tiger, he was the whole package. @ClassicBoxingMatches
@ClassicBoxingMatches 4 года назад
@@markferguson3917 I'll answer! First off though, I hate these questions. I dont think you SHOULD compare boxers who are more than 2 decades apart as styles and expectations change quite a bit. Rocky would have the advantage in stamina and he clearly had a better chin, if the fight somehow went to the later rounds I'd say Rocky would have a chance to score a late knockout. But, you could see how Rocky struggled early on in this fight with Walcott just swarming him. Tyson in his prime hit harder and moved faster than Walcott ever did so based on that I'd say Tyson wins by TKO. But, they would never have fought each other in this day and age, Marciano would be a cruiserweight, he only ever weighed around 180lbs
@markferguson3917
@markferguson3917 4 года назад
Classic Boxing Matches First off, good break down of how the fight may have gone. It's true, Rocky would have been cruiser today or maybe even light heavy. But if Marciano had have been a fully fledged heavy, Tyson probably the last decent heavy that wouldn't look enormous compared to rock. It's super heavy nowadays. I don't see Marciano surviving long tbh against Tyson. Marciano was a slow starter, was dropped by Walcott and Moore early. Tyson would hurt him fast, it maybe even a three round fight. But if RM survived the onslaught and takes him in to the middle rounds then Tyson becomes less potent and Marciano actually gets better. Thanks for getting back.
@ClassicBoxingMatches
@ClassicBoxingMatches 4 года назад
@@markferguson3917 I dont know if Marciano was a slow starter or just methodical... not that I've seen ALL his fights but he tends to keep the same pace throughout, always punching and he never stops coming foward. That's why he was so dangerous, he just started to look better as fights wore on because his opponents started to tire. I think it was Moore in his autobiography who said that Marciano wasnt the hardest puncher he had ever fought, he didnt knock you out with a single punch, instead he would just beat you up until you couldnt take no more. He also said Marciano would hit any part of you he could touch, didnt matter if you were blocking, he would just beat your arms black and blue so you couldnt hold them up anymore. Its takes a lot of effort both mentally and physically to be constantly defending yourself every second.
@markferguson3917
@markferguson3917 4 года назад
Classic Boxing Matches Yes, I'll say that about Rocky, he had a great heart and relentless in the ring. He's critized for fighting old guys, like Louis, Charles and Walcott but he could only fight those in front of him and the division wasn't full of depth at the time. I love watching Marciano fights tho, I've seen a few, I've got him rated at about 8 in my 100 best heavyweight s.

I don’t think Marciano was a fabulous boxer but he was a great fighter. You were taking a big risk to slug it out with a guy who has a granite jaw and a sledgehammer punch. I wonder how he would have faired against Mike Tyson.
@peaceseeker9927
@peaceseeker9927 2 года назад
Young Mike Tyson would have knocked Marciano out cold within the first two rounds. Marciano was not a heavyweight as Tyson was and the difference in strength and quickness was too much. Even old washed up tired 38 year old Walcott was able to knockdown Rocky here but he was not strong enough to follow up. Only people who don't understand boxing would think Marciano could have survived a power punching heavyweight like Tyson or a big one like Gerry Cooney. Marciano fought old washed up guys and it's perceived as greatness.

I'm not impressed by young Marciano in his late 20's knocking out a washed up old Walcott age 38 who was stumbling around in the late rounds. Heavyweight champions in later decades were substantially bigger than Rocky and company so it's an apples oranges comparison to claim this was a great "heavyweight" knockout. And the power punchers among those later heavier heavyweights would have knocked Rocky unconscious within the first couple of rounds; I mean they would have walked right over him 😞.

Yes but remember marciano would also be bigger if he had access to the same nutrition and sport science that Athletes have today. Today’s heavyweights would be smaller if they lived back in the 1950’s and lacked the nutritional and sport science advantages they have today. For example, sonny Liston weighed around 220 pounds. If he were in his prime today, and had access to the same advantages today’s athletes have such as weight lifting nutritional products, world class gyms, etc , he could easily gain 20 pounds of muscle and probably weigh around 240

@@westsidewoodledge8892 I think Sonny Listen could beat Marciano, but I say that as a styles perspective. Sonny doesn't retract his arm after his jab. He'd stick his gloves on Marciano's head and then follow up with a hard right. He could not do this to Ali because Ali was tall and kept away. Sonny Liston would be a bad matchup for Marciano.
