Every Proms are so brilliant, I follow it until 1970 from Germany, my favorite is the Proms from 2009 with Sarah Connolly (mezzo-soprano) sings Rule Britannia during Last Night of the Proms performed so great in the Nelson costume and of course Alison Balsom perform the Libertango...by Jerusalem, when the nation sing this lovely song I fight with my tears, damn it is sooooooooo good...god bless you all!

This is the national anthem for England but only seems used at the Commonwealth Games. It got changed from Land of Hope and Glory back in 2010 I think. We should use it for all sporting events we play separately.

It's sad looking back at how countries have largely lost their patriotism.. I'm in the US and in the past 10 years we went from everyone coming together, flag flying, country supporting to "everything is racist, sexist, evil" and "America was never great".... thanks for that leftists.. lol I hope with Brexit the UK can once again find its identity and charge forward!

Little story to share. When I was at school during my last year, I had a load of P.E exams on the same day. I was incredibly nervous so I sat in one of the school toilets in my kit listening to this song. I have never felt so inspired. I achieved B's to A's in all my exams and I really, REALLY recommend it to anyone who has an upcoming exam/job interview etc.

You don't have to be British. I'm moved to the point of choking up by this hymn and especially the Proms performances. I can't say that ever happens with our national anthem The Star Spangled Banner. The same goes for I Vow to Thee My Country. I must be English at heart even though there's no English blood in my veins. :-)

Could people please stop arguing about england and everything. I'm an incredibly patriotic person but it's annoying how people are filling up the comments with stuff about how england is the best, then other people going on about how it's not. seriously, this a beautiful song and something we should be proud of, because of the fact it's a british song.

This great hymn is not about Jesus, the end of the world, or the monarchy. It is a call to protect the land, its resources, and its beauty, and to protect the poor who in Blake's day were working all daylight hours in mills under dangerous equipment and bad air. Blake inspires us to work, never rest, until we restore the "pleasant pastures" and build a heavenly city (Jerusalem) here in Britain.

I always watch the 'Last Night', for it's spontinaity and regular well known tunes. I ALWAY'S remember this 2009 event as the best. The invited Conductor that night was an American, who I remember well, being so enthusiastic, genuine and funny. David Robertsone brought a lighter and amusing last night and remember him being "blown away" by the spectical as he watched, off screen, at the end of the night. A truely memorable night.

Just one of the most mindfuckingly beautiful videos I've ever seen. From the gorgeous music to the sumptuous visuals and especially to the rich western tradition implied, truly Athens and Jerusalem. And the dizzying detail. The more you watch the more you see. Shot of two women lighting up when they see they're on screen, one in a million.

+frank crisp England/the UK are old enough and grand enough for two anthems! I mean even the Danes have two....surely you lot deserve two. At least your anthem is about a nice old lady. Ours (USA) is about a battle considered a triumph because we (barely) survived it.

Regarding this anthem--amidst this lovely song's declaration of a New Jerusalem in England, don't forget there is a real Jerusalem, in a Hebrew-speaking land call Israel, the Israelite Jesus' native country. It sits on a mountain top, and is alive and well and beautiful and filled with the presence of the Holy One of Israel.
