In 2017, the Palestinian Museum in Birzeit, invited me as an artist in residence to create a work in occasion of their inaugural exhibition. Up to this day, this event was a highlight of my career and the experience pushed me to develop new concepts and aesthetics that are still central to my work today.
This is a short clip where I give a short explanation of the work that I have created for the museum. The sculpture is now part of the collection of the museum and permanently on view on its suggestive terraces.

This is very moving. Connection is so important and this piece resonates with connection on so many levels.

Stone in general is such a unique material that resonates on a universal level. Regardless of faith, beliefs and cultures. It truly had the potential to unite.

Sociopolitical interpretive elements embodied in monolithic form.... This is one step removed from Stonehenge. Even the angle of sunlight contributes to the work. Another inspired achievement, thank you Athar.

Thank you John. As you know, I always try to imbue some relevant sociopolitical thought in all of my works. This was particularly successful.

I love the interplay of different textures and colourations, as another said the sunlight will work so well with this piece! A few months ago we had a good discourse going regarding getting started with stonecarving. I just wanted to say I'm still here and interested. I have had a rather tumultuous time recently and alongside a broken phone screen it's been hard to have any time for learning a new skill and/or youtube

That texture will hopefully change and develop through time and the viewers haptic interactions with it. Take the time you need for getting started, I'm here and meanwhile the courses offered has amplified. Check our new website dedicated just to that here: www.sculpturechannel.com/

I love when the viewers are encouraged to physically interact with a piece of sculpture. In that way, the sculpture continues to change and lives.

Exactly. It’s an essential way of experiencing the work.

I like the idea of the stone embracing

Yes, it's basically the opposite of tradition sculpture where the figure emerges from within the stone. Here, the figure is the viewer, and it tried to get back into the stone.

World would be much better if people learn how to feel natural materials..stone, wood..

We have an innate instinct that attracts us to such materials.
