Jess Bush Quoting Gene Roddenberry: "What I Believe Art Is"

It's so interesting to hear Jess' natural accent, versus the one she does for the series. That said, I love her a Christine Chapel, and when she and Rebecca have a scene together I can't help but think of the original series for a moment - both characters were played by Majel Barrett, but Majel didn't have the authorization to do scenes like Jess and Rebecca do. Back then it was just about impossible to show an empowered woman on TV. Sure, "Number 1" was the ship's second in command but they left her on the ship when Majel was doing that role. What Jess and Rebecca are doing now is a clear sign that times have changed. There are a lot of people that don't like this ("conservative" means resistant to change, by definition) but an even greater number that love it and think it's incredible - even old people like me. Outstanding job of the entire crew, but Jess and Rebecca are something really special for most of us.

It would of been accepted if they made Nurse Chapel played by Ms. Bush to use her natural Aussie accent. But it would be contrary to the original TOS characters. I understand. Point is Strange New Worlds is a hit in my opinion. More episodic than the linear storyline. If a new fan miss a couple of episodes they’ll be lost watching a later episode. Where an individual episode series is one and done. You can watch any episode and not get lost. Which is exactly like TOS. So far so good. SNW is following the Star Trek bible of the original series (TOS). SNW is a spin off of Discovery. Ratings spiked when Pike and the Enterprise was introduced at the season ending S1 E15 at the very end of that episode. Fans erupted with having a prequel to the TOS. It took 4 years here we are!

Damn her face is gorgeous 🖖. Show is also a lot better than the Picard. Maybe best star trek since ds9.

Jess, your natural voice is beautiful. Why did they make you "Americanize" it for the show? I would think it would be more in line with Gene's vision of the future if the crew was even a bit more multi cultural!
