Jesse Malin is now in my list of favorite songwriters! That list includes John Prine, Shane MacGowan, Tom Waits, Townes VanZandt, Bruce Springsteen, Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Elvis Costello and more.... I'm just saying, I didn't know about Jesse Malin until a few months ago, (I live in South Dakota!) but I am so excited to hear such great songwriting and music. It's like being young and discovering the Ramones!
That's awesome! He's one of my favorite songwriters too, and his live performances are epic -- hope you get to see him live some time! How did you first hear about him?

Absolutely slayed it Jesse. Heart wrenching, raw, beautiful, damaged, unfailingly honest, vulnerable. Best song I've heard all year. I've been a Tom Petty fan for a long time. Tom Petty and The Heart Breakers remind me or Springsteen and the Estreet band in one fairly unique way. You don't realise just how good they are until somebody else tries to cover one of their songs. Often this results in them falling flat on their face. But you absolutely nailed it, this version doesn't just go to toe to toe, I prefer this version. Best cover I've heard in years. Reminds me of Cash covering Hurt.
