Gotta feel for him just gonna have the stigma of being American rooting for him tho big time seems like a quality manager and Leeds are still a great watch
I agree, he’s very impressive. And he has said before that he has a chip on his shoulder, knowing he has to disprove everyone’s preconceptions about American coaches.
I was going to make the comment you already made, I like him, a real go-getter mentality that many Americans have, and he could be brilliant for the PL but Leeds need to give him time and not panic whenever they go on a bad run
He really is all of those things. Followed him at all 3 Red Bulls clubs. He is always looking to challenge both himself and his teams to constantly improve, and he is an unbelievable motivator.
This guy coached a Salzburg team that made a comeback at Anfield in the champ league from 0-3 down to 3-3. They lost 4-3 but everyone at Anfield had respect for this man and his team after that match. That fighting mentality is now with Leeds.
Haha the narrative in this country about this guy changed in two seconds. Probably shouldn't have judged someone based off of their nationality in the first place.
@@minimalglitch6675 glad there’s been positive change, if Leeds kept performing as they were, he would get more than the normal amount of criticism for being American
as an american coach hoping to one day make it in a european league i thank pioneers of this like jesse marsch for opening the doors for others like us in europe
@@ExecutionerHopkins Of the past 8 Champions League finalists, 5 of those were clubs from the Premier League. It's not really a weird thing to say that the Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world. Also, the OP wasn't even talking about the quality of the league, rather how exciting it is to watch.
I've been saying that since day one....at least, once I accepted him after feeling like the board betrayed Bielsa. Once I started seeing him as "our manager", I got really tired of the Ted Lasso comparisons. Of course I knew they would come, the English media is lazy and rival fans say anything and everything about Leeds, But when I saw our own fans saying it, I lost patience. It doesn't even apply in this case. He's an experienced coach, he's won things, He has coached in multiple countries and speaks multiple languages. He deserves respect and honestly, if he had a British accent of any kind, they would be falling all over themselves about him.
I was in Chicago when Liverpool won the champions league final in 2005. I watched the game live on TV, but also ended up watching the highlights. On the highlights they had subtitles for Carragher 🤣🤣
@@FedorChopper I love when there are subtitles for people with heavy Irish and British accents, so funny especially when you genuinely can’t tell what they’re saying
@@football4life886 no I understand when they made the reference ted lasso but it's people questioning things he's done when they seen it before for example the huddle
@Football4Life , not really though has more implications than that . It’s why every English player is about 10-20 million more expensive . As a Canadian I find it pathetic not one Canadian in the premier league . Even though their national team is doing fantastic , Bayern got Alphonso Davies for what 12 mil? Turns out one of the best wing backs in the world . How come not one prem team took a chance on him ? Jonathon David , another one .
That's the thing. People acting like he's Ted Lasso are going to stop soon because it's pretty obvious he's not...he's an actual coach with a decade of experience at this point. So what if he uses a few different words? He's coached in several different countries, he has won trophies. He deserves to be looked at like every other coach that comes to this league. I hope he will at some point.
Thanks for being open minded George. There is still heavy American stereotypes in the U.K. IN 2022. It is hard to believe, but people like you are a breath of fresh air
Nice to hear that. When we use American terms, we get bashed and corrected on what the proper words are. When we use the proper words, we are told we are trying to copy or we are cringey. It's encouraging to hear some positivity towards an American when it comes to football
I remember first seeing this guy when he used to do tactical analysis of MLS games 10 years ago. You could tell this guy had a big tactical mind. I think this guy is the real deal and by far the best ever American coach of all time.
He was a really good defender, too, one of the early generation who had offers overseas but chose to stay in MLS, likely for less money, to help build the league.
You know the crazy thing is America has all the infer-structure for football to flourish in the country. You’ve got a huge population, great universities that are very sports driven and they always produce high level athletes. I think what they’re missing is more people like Jessie.Quality managers in the MLS and in the universities is what will change it.
@@brandonking2679 The biggest problem in US soccer is the pay to play system, that makes soccer a rich white kid sport like tennis. The US will never be a contender with a team made up of rich suburban kids, who don't have the drive, hunger or athleticism to match the rest of the world. My sister lives in New York and wanted to put her 3 year old son into a kid's team and they were asking for 10k a year to join this team. That is completely ridiculous when the best academies in the world like Chelsea, Barcelona, Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool are free for kids. The problem is due to soccer being very expensive in the USA, it has a low number of African American super athletes in the sport, so rich parents see this as an opportunity to get their kid a sports scholarships and free university. Greedy American youth coaches know this, so inflate their prices because they know rich parents will be willing to pay 10k or 20k for their children to become good at soccer, if it saves them 100k in university fees, if they get a soccer scholarship. And this systems excludes working class kids from becoming soccer players in the Black, Latin( where it is their number 1 sport) and white communities in low income family bracket, where the best athletes are found. NFL star Odell Beckham was considered the best American soccer player when he was young and played for U15 US national team. But changed sports in his late teens because he didn't have the family to support his soccer the development in the US because it was so expensive and didn't want to go abroad for the free soccer development. Even today he says soccer was his first love and only changed sport because it was cheaper to play American football. If the French and English national team had been raised in America, only Hugo Loris would have had the family money to play soccer in America. The sad thing is it is clear the pay to play system is massively hurting US soccer and is bad, but they are not going to get rid of because in America greed outweighs everything, including good ideas. This is the country that needed to have a civil to decide if slavery was bad because people were making money from it. This is a country with no universal healthcare because people make money from inflated prices of only having private healthcare with no choice. They have very weak gun laws because people make money from selling guns. And they are not going to make kids soccer free or cheap in America because too many amateur coaches make so much money from it.
@@Delboy0 You mentioned something important wich is universal health care. But football is also basically free to play in rest of Europe. Zlatan talked about his experience in America and he didn't like the American system. Because he wouldn't make it in America.
Bringing that Nba mentality to the Premier League! A breath of fresh air… never understood why football coaches were so closed and just not open to talk tactics and how they felt the games
What a Gentleman, that oozes class and Charisma. He had them all engrossed in that interview. Great man manager. Let's get this season done, rebuild and go after every team that has mocked the mighty Leeds United this year. MOT
that was an epic fightback @ 60 mins Leeds 2 nil down i stuck 50p on leeds winning 3-2 and i won £12.50 back im going to donate that to help the people of ukraine well played leeds
People should think about buying tickets to the Ukraine Zoo. Obviously nobody is going there, but its a good cause to help them save and feed the animals.
Genuine guy and love the honesty about Phillips at the end. Sometimes just having big players around the day makes a difference. Leaders are needed when you get to this stage and you need to dig stuff out. KP, Coops and Pat are those leaders.
I was utterly disgusted with the treatment Bob Bradley received when he was in England, mainly based on his being American. It was sickening ignorance & disrespect. Hope Marsch is given a fairer crack.
@@davidmontgomery1442 Seeing as Bradley had managed multiple National Teams before taking a European club, including beating *the* Spain team, I would debate the pedigree argument. Marsch is personable in a way Bradley never was, I'll grant that. But I do think if Marsch had been the 1st American manager in the EPL, Leipzig and Salzburg notwithstanding, he'd get a very similar rollicking.
I really like this guy. I mean it seems like a lazy comparison but his focus on generating a sense of positivity and belief certainly seems reminiscent of a particular fictional US coach of a Premier League team. I hope he manages to keep this up, Leeds are a side that makes the league better. Good luck to him.
Football twitter can banter him as much as they want, but Jesse shown here his professionalism and knowledge of the modern game especially. Good luck to him
As a Leeds fan, having watched a lot of Marsch’s Leipzig tenure, I was really skeptical about him, but he’s totally turned me around. Seems like a great football mind and I love his candor
Can't wait to see more american coach and players in european top league. You american guys have so much human resources compared to some great footballing countries in europe. If you take this sport more seriously, i dont think it's hard for you to win the world cup
unfortunately football isn't nearly as popular as american football, basketball and baseball but the fanbase keeps growing and it's the 4th most watched sport in the us.
@@CP-ir3ft Doesn't have to be as popular as the Big Four to field a competitive national team, export and produce top flight American soccer talent let alone develop the league.
@@bbg7777 Doesn't really matter about the diversity of sports. All that matters is producing enough of a talent pool to pick and choose from. America has that population.
Normally interviewing coaches is like trying to squeeze blood from a stone ....... with this guy it's how do you stop him? ...I bet his dressing room talks are something else.......
There's one uploaded on RU-vid from his MLS days, also one from when he was at Salzburg, with mixed German and English. He's pretty fiery but it's basic stuff. I think more so he just gets the players believing that they can play. Some players need to be directly motivated and told they can do it.... I believe that's most of his effectiveness. Getting these players to believe that they can run through a brick wall. That's sort of what Bielsa did... Which is why I think he's a good fit for us. Rodrigo alone seems like a brand new signing under Marsch.
Suddenly I've forgotten the previous Leeds Utd manger and his translator for post match interviews - This Jesse Marsch dude is quite refreshing with his insane positivity.
Absolutely buzzing with the win tonight, nowhere near safe yet, but can't ask for more in terms of commitment! And fair play to Jesse. Like Bielsa I'd never heard of him before, but I like the cut of his jib. If he keeps us up, we'll be every 'soccer' fan in Americas 1st or 2nd team for a while, and if we get investment on the back of that then we could be up there sooner rather than later. MOT
Wow. Both Bielsa and March had much more high profile jobs before Leeds. So quite surprised you didn't know them. Argentina national team and replacing Nagelsman at Leipzig are not easy jobs. But similar to you, really like how Marsch is taking on this role. really excited to see what's up next
I live in the U.S. & follow Leeds United. I was so dumbfounded a few weeks ago when he was hired. Definitely watch English Football to get away from MLS and my team hires him, lol.😁 But so far, so good.
“Good plays”, “on our roster” ... I love it the unashamed Americanness of his interviews. Nothing worse than when someone pretends to be something they’re not. I think he’ll break down barriers for American coaches in the UK, just like Ange at Celtic is doing for Aussies
It killed me watching this match as a Wolves fan. But Jesse was always one of my favourite Fire players and I'm happy to see him achieve this success. One of the nicest guys you're gonna meet
There's no room for racism in football. Stop the stigma with Americans. Just see football for what it is. This man is doing great as the manager for Leeds. 🤙🏼
"...I don't want you to survive, I want all of you to thrive..." Jesse March incredible quotes of the day... those were powerful motivation for Leeds... I just start to be fans of this man...
What a mad exciting game. Long way to go for Leeds. Pulling away from teams underneath us but they have games in hand. Little brake before the next game now
Fellow Yank here, and brand new Leeds supporter. Still trying to figure out what the hell Carragher was trying to say - and I watched it back 3x. Can’t imagine what was going through Jesses head during that question, but I think he played it off well 😂
Enough of this "surf guy" imitation guys 😂....I hope marsch goes far....being an African I hope to see an African coach like Pitso Mosimane coach in the EPL one day
Forget the American nationality. Let's get 1 thing straight. He coached Salzborg who played brilliant football, were dogged, played flowing attacking football. Came back at a field from a doomed game. He didn't come from some silly American college. He has European experience.
Novel to see an American manager in the premier league. It's not that we are disrespectful but English people will find the Americanism he uses of our 'soccer' terminology amusing. I hope he succeeds with Leeds and stays around as he is a character. Ted Lasso in real life, but only good I hope :-)
As a palace fan i really hope Leeds stay up, They always provide entertainment at both ends, That is exactly what football is about!! They Also have great support..
