Amazing how Jesse had a friend in Lutz Long in Nazi Germany when he had NO friends back home at UCLA

Lutz Long encouraged him and gave him tips on the long jump. Jesse won gold, Lutz won silver, and both walked off the field arm in arm, a lifelong friendship until Lutz's death during WWII.😎❤🇺🇲🥇🏅🏆🎖👍🍾

@Asier Etxeberria Irastorza Jesse disagreed with his coach when he pulled the Jewish runners (Stoller and Glickman), but he had to listen to him when ge said "You'll do as your told". Jesse reluctantly ran, but he and his teammates were friends as well as he was friends with Lutz Long, his German competitor who gave him tips on the long jump and the gold medal. Lutz Long won the silver. They were friends until Long was killed during WW II. Jesse kept in touch with his family until his own passing in 1980. Jesse was sponsored by Adidas shoes.

Luz Long’s letter to Jessie Owens before being killed in WWII: “I am here, Jesse, where it seems there is only the dry sand and the wet blood. I do not fear so much for myself, my friend Jesse, I fear for my woman who is home, and my young son Karl, who has never really known his father.” “My heart tells me, if I be honest with you, that this is the last letter I shall ever write. If it is so, I ask you something. It is a something so very important to me. It is you go to Germany when this war done, someday find my Karl, and tell him about his father. Tell him, Jesse, what times were like when we not separated by war. I am saying-tell him how things can be between men on this earth.” “If you do this something for me, this thing that I need the most to know will be done, I do something for you, now. I tell you something I know you want to hear. And it is true.” “That hour in Berlin when I first spoke to you, when you had your knee upon the ground, I knew that you were in prayer.” “Then I not know how I know. Now I do. I know it is never by chance that we come together. I come to you that hour in 1936 for purpose more than der Berliner Olympiade.” “And you, I believe, will read this letter, while it should not be possible to reach you ever, for purpose more even than our friendship.” “I believe this shall come about because I think now that God will make it come about. This is what I have to tell you, Jesse.” “I think I might believe in God.” “And I pray to him that, even while it should not be possible for this to reach you ever, these words I write will still be read by you.” Your brother, Luz www1.cbn.com/cbnnews/us/2016/august/letter-to-famed-olympian-jessie-owens-shows-his-faiths-impact

***** Interesting anecdote about the 1936 Berlin Olympics: There were two sprinters on the USA team who happened to be Jewish (Marty Glickman and Sam Stoller). They were supposed to run in the 4 X 100 relay. However, Avery Brundage, head of the US Olympic Committee, dropped them from the race for fear that it would "embarrass" Hitler if Jewish athletes won gold medals. Instead, he substituted two other sprinters, one of which was Jesse Owens. This event won Owens his fourth gold medal of the games. Glickman later became a nationally known sports broadcaster.
@MickTheQuickk
@MickTheQuickk 9 лет назад
***** His particular hatred was for the Jews. Blacks were not on his radar because there weren't many in Germany. By 1936, he had already fired all Jews in civil service and had them tossed out of their teacher's jobs. And he was just getting warmed up.

Today, at school, my teacher taught our class a story of Jesse Owens, namely "My Greatest Olympic Prize" which was written by Mr. Owen's only. So I searched a bit about Owens and Luz long. Found this amazing video, somewhere felt a little sad for Luz Long, cause he got disappear (killed) in the war in 40s, leaving his wife and two children behind. Well, to be honest, it's such a really good real life story, which I found glittering and somewhere encouraging. Hoping y'all a great life ahead. And yea, if someone is reading this comment from future, then I wanna say, this is a story we got in our English textbooks.

Owens said crowds were cheering him in Berlin, in the trams, everywhere. In the US on the contrary, black people were still segregated in buses... When Owens went to a celebration organized for him at Waldorf Hotel in NY, he had to take a separated service elevator to not mix with the Jewish-White crowd. I admire this guy for his honesty in telling all this.

He was the dominant figure, he completely outclassed all the competitors in the 100m, 200m, long jump, and 4x100m relay. He won the most gold medals compared to everyone in the 1936 Olympics, in a time where Nazi's were in control and they deemed themselves 'superior', even using the Olympics as a way to showcase their 'supeiority' which failed.

@@dnaseb9214 If they nailed their superiorty claims they wouldn't let an 'inferior' race win the gold medal in 4 times in their olympics. There was only 1-2 black competitors in comparison to the 4-5 white competitors in most competitions held in the 1936 olympics and the black competitor/s (Jesse Owens and John Woodruff) still managed to beat them. The only thing nazi germany nailed is that they were better than their american white counterparts, they didn't nail their aryan superiority claim because they couldn't beat Jesse Owens, John Woodruff and other black competitors who were both supposedly inferior to Hitlers so called 'Aryans'.

I agree, it doesn't make you un-American to question what's wrong with this country. Yes, I would rather live here than anywhere else, but it's not the greatest country in the world. The citizens who think America is perfect are ironically the ones that are hurting the country the most. For example, If you have a child that's misbehaving do you not correct that child's bad behavior or do you turn the other cheek. I love my country and it does have the potential to be a great country one day.
@badcornflakes6374
@badcornflakes6374 5 лет назад
That's what's great about America, you're allowed to question it's authority. The founding fathers made it like that. You are allowed to comment about with no backlash from the government that you're talking about. It's not perfect, but it's the best thing we've got.

Almost certainly the greatest athlete of all time. A true natural phenomenon that made a separation between him and his opponents and he would have won also the fifth gold medal in Berlin in the relay race 4 to 200 if they had not hindered him for envy. With his exceptional and unreachable talent he would have almost certainly won successive Olympics in the same specialties, but there was the World War II. Imagine if he ran today with all the innovations, new materials and new current knowledge. And without the several hard obstacles that he had to suffer. I don't think that Bolt would have been able to defeat him at all not even in a single specialty.

1936 was also the year when Max Schmeling knocked out Joe Louis to become the heavyweight champion of the world. I leave it those who believe that Jesse Owens single-handedly 'destroyed the myth of the superiority of the Aryan race' to figure out which one was the more important sports event. The truth is, Owens appreciated Hitler and Germany more than his own president and country. Maybe because he could have married a white woman in Nazi-Germany had he wished to do so, not in the US though. Maybe because in Germany he got the respect he deserved for his accomplishments when he achieved them, not later on when history was raped.

This is the best Olympics in history. From here Berlin invented a revolutionary style of Olympics that had never been done before, the celebration, the participants, the athletes and the spectators all knew exactly what to do to present a great image of the Germany sport. Carrying the torch, arranging the masses, the forms that the masses used to perform during the parades, is a truly artistic masterpiece. After this Olympics, the rest of the countries began to imitate the Berlin celebrations, to what we have reached today.

One detail is Wernher Vons Baun, what he did for the US was fantastic, then he dies because the US government didn't have money for the project, also, that continued in the 60's and 70'S with the Space Fashion of Pier Cardin, space pop art, Hollywood movies, believing that the flying saucers where extraterrestrials and giving to the world the delusions of other galaxies would come to visit earth, like I said, the engineer Von Brawn couldn't complete the project of the spacial station for lack of founding of the US government. Can you imagine, in Germany the project was more ambitious, time travel, and others marvelous inventions and discoveries, very spiritual, like the Vril and Tule Society.

The truth is that NS Germany had no problem at all with Jesse Owens, as he himself recognized. Not only was he considered a star in all Berlin, but also you can see in the Leni Riefenstahl official propaganda film that a large part is dedicated to his feats and glory. It seems only fair but does not fit at all what they say about NS.

This young man shatters my heart He brings tears to my sad eyes He has proved German's' supremacy He has canceled my hatred for Germany He has sacrificed his gold happily He could have remained just quiet He needn't have advised Jesse Then Jesse would have fouled We are afraid of our bosses in office We fear to say our emotions openly They love to treat us all as slaves Think of Hitler- the dreaded dictator This young soul is gripped by love He bothered not about being marked He opened his heart frankly to help He had entered history of course Hitler hated greatness of blacks He expressed it openly to all During such a crucial occasion This youngster did a miracle This one soul is sufficient For me to pray for holy Germany He has represented the whole Nation As Germans shout 'Jesse, Jesse' It is a great Nation indeed It suffered due to Hitler He had betrayed his citizens Here was a true German helping ! For a petty office promotion People use influence to gain Forgetting Olympic gold One German created History Such noble souls bring rain And prosperity for all really Germany was tilled by his blood And so now peace prevails O- God- Forgive us all please Due to one dictator so bad We have started hating Germany But, the truth is totally different He would have reached Heaven Without having any rebirth at all God would keep him in His heart Forever he will be happy there My heart weeps as I missed him I couldn't touch his young hand And wish him all the best kindly My not falling at his legs is a sin Because of noble souls like him The whole earth is finely sustained If I go to Paradise after my death I would search for him there surely I thank 'You Tube' for showing him fully He is God in disguise to help Jesse And also each human being to be merciful By fully sacrificing hatred and animosity Thank you ' You Tube' your service Is remarkable and unforgettable I am indebted to you for you dear May God keep you for us all eternally. mvvenkataraman

Woah, sudden burst of maturity. Kinda alarming that when my native language is english I still manage not to succumb to short slogans like you. I'm sure attacking people based on their birthplace (but you chose to born in America, right?) IS the calid critisism. Oh my, you really just run on short slogans and irrationality, don't you?
@반전신청사연
@반전신청사연 12 лет назад
And the Declaration is not a manmade document? It's all still just nationalism, calling your birthplace the best just because you have been born there. You do know that for indiands you are also an immigrant? You have been for 400 years while they lived there for thousand of years.

This is not true Hitler was told by the Olimpic commity just before Owens won That as a political leader He was not allowed to fratrinize with the Olimpiades and if you note watching the whole film He no longer shoke hands with any of them German Or otherwise. Hitler even said the the blacks where faster in there make up. yet if you look at who won most of the medels for strength they where white, and the German women won more medels than any other nation.

thats not the hole truth. He didnt want to shake a black mans hand in front of the hole world. But he desided earlier that he dont shake hands with the athlets, because he needed to shake all or no, to save the neutrality.( He only wanted to congretulate the germans)
