Yeah I was surprised about that... usually you hear a lot of "A lot of those guys were pansies" or "Most of those guys were posers" in a bid to mark out for themselves, but Ventura honestly saying that the locker room was full of tough guys speaks to the legitimacy of how tough a lot of those guys were.

You have to be tough to be a pro wrestler. Can you imagine taking all those bumps and then having to drive all night / a few hundred miles to do it again in another town and keep up that same grind for months or even years?? Pro-Basketball player Dennis Rodman did a match with Diamond Dallas Page and not long after the match Jesse Ventura called him and asked him what he thought of it and Rodman said he could barely get out of bed the next morning. While Rodman was no Navy SEAL he was still a pro (ie, a "REAL") athlete and had no problem admitting the toll that one match took on his body... and Ventura then answered him saying that one year in his days as a wrestler he had to put up with that for almost 300 nights in a row. Yikes!!😬😬

But he was also in the era of Paul Orndorff, Andre, Bruno, Sheik, Bad News, Brody, Wahoo McDaniel, Gagne, Fritz Von Erich, etc.

People honestly don't understand how hard the bumps actually are on you over time. Each perfect fall, in the middle of the ring, is the equivalent of a 35mph car crash on the human body (not including bad bumps or bumps to the outside). Now do that multiple times a day (in training 50-100 times plus) for months & years... When I was training, it wasn't uncommon for someone to come try out, take a single bump & quit right then. I'd say of the ones who didn't quit immediately, 85%-90% never came back for a second training session. You were honestly rare if you came back for the 2nd time... You HAVE to be some kind of tough guy or a sadist or straight up crazy, to be in the business. Otherwise, you won't last any length of time

In all fairness, the interviewer probably didn’t mean anything by it. He probably just meant that it’s important to satisfy paying customers. But yeah, when Jesse looks at the fans, he sees more than a crowd of people who paid money, he sees a crowd of people 100% invested in the world that the wrestlers created for them.
