You are. You think we are pointing the blame at just police. We are addressing the mistreatment from the SYSTEM that the police work for; Its institutionalized. I feel like you honestly don't understand. And quite frankly, I don't have enough time to educate you. I do not wish to belittle you because you don't know. Just read and figure it out yourself dude.
He was able to carry his brave, pure, powerful thoughts into a video game, where he could reach a whole new audience and teach the children of the world. Truly beautiful.
The idea that Jesse Williams would be fired for this speech is preposterous. It is nothing like what Isaiah Washington said. First of all, he's just honestly speaking out about what he sees happening in America. He isn't calling out or insulting specific individuals, he's saying that there are many broken systems in our country that need to be fixed. And honestly, it has nothing to do with his job on Grey's Anatomy. In my opinion, he didn't use any offensive language or say anything hurtful. Just because you don't agree with him doesn't mean he's prejudiced against whites. We all know that we have corrupt police officers in our country. Police officers know it and so do civilians. OF COURSE that DOES NOT mean that ALL cops are racist. He's calling out the corruption, hatred, mistreatment, and other failures in our society, he's not calling you out personally, so you don't need to get defensive. I'm bracing myself for whatever arguments you have, so go for it.
The only arguments people will have will be completely unrelated to the issue being discussed here. You'll get a few screaming about crimes rates among black people even though they won't bother to actually do any research into the reason why the numbers exist. They will just blame it on the amount of melanin in a person's skin because that clearly is what causes crime. lol
+just plain_name what bullshit??your only calling it bullshit because it's not what you want to hear!!! if it's really bullshit just pull out all the reciepts then. I want to see them. also you should open your mind and try to understand what he's talking about.
That's how I feel. He got his message across without any hate speech or targeting individuals. Yet people are defensive and upset, when they know we have corrupt government.
I mean first off Isiah Washington used the "f word"... Jesse Williams didn't use one ethnic slur in his speech. He barely brought up the word white... He was speaking to Black people and our allies.
The only way to stop racisim is if both sides stop being racist, why are hating on a person because of their skin tone? We are all the same Race/Speices...We are ALL Human stop the division, Stop hurting your fellow people. We maybe diffrent from skin tone but we are all the same, we all live on the same planet. So stop being ignorant and be more thoughtful.
There is literally no black person who hates white people for their skin tone. Its more so that they hate the history behind what their people did and what some of their people are doing now. Mostly, talking about the cops.
Nothing is holding the blacks back. The Chinese can come here learn english and become doctors yet the blacks here can't even stay in high school. No law is holding them back.
The Chinese were never slaves in this country. The African American culture from the food we eat to the way we think all stems from slavery. We have European Surnames . Believe in a white Jesus. Because of slavery. Wasn't even allowed to read now people expect our race to be over achievers in just a couple generations. We just got civil rights in the 1960's.
No. He was an idiot for using an award for being an ACTOR somehow made him think he should be accepted by everyone as an expert on anything, everywhere...
+Michael Coster He got the award for being a humanitarian... BET is a media company not an acting organization. You were mistaken and that's ok. You're a big kid now, learn from your mistakes, be quiet and move on. You can't be loud and wrong at the same time! Lol.
+Crystal Downer Umm...a 'media company', not an 'acting organization'...and you think that's some huge difference? Yeah...I think you just proved who's the adult...I'm done.
He apologizes because he is weak. What he should really apologize for is selling out to give support to the terrorist group known as Black Lives Matter.
His speech was beautiful and inspirational because he accurately portrayed historical racism towards blacks, and how that racism needs to be addressed in our modern society. P.S. Whatever happened to his freedom of speech; especially, when it's truthful?
+Ziz Zazzy The same impulse that made me post a statement is the same one that made you reply to it. YOU'RE COMPLAINING ABOUT ME COMPLAINING. SHIT LIKE THIS IS WHY I HATE HUMANITY.
BET is owned by Viacom. The same company owned and operated by MTV and Nickelodeon. So saying its black owned is false. Its Black entertainment. Meaning its airs mostly shows starring black people. It is not specifically or solely for blacks. Anyone can watch if they so choose. White and other races for that matter have won and attend the BET awards. So again NOT solely for black people. Eben if it were black owned. Black owned things are not specific to blacks. Its stating who owns it. Not that only black people can purchase their wares.
Oh sorry to answer your question... Yes, that would be racist.(Like the Oscars and all those other award shows for nearly 40 or so years. Which is why we have all these award shows for others now btw. They were a necessity not exclusionary) BUT being that it isn't blacks only, it's fine.
+MarvelDcImage Also... did you read anything past the ownership line??? which stated that non blacks have won and regularly attend the awards. That alone should have clued you into the fact of it not being "blacks only" event.
+Robert Lewandowski thank you Robert for reinforcing and demonstrating the fragility of the white mans ego and the importance and truth in Jesse' message.
This is America. You can't fire a black actor (half black, at that) for addressing black system corruption at a black entertainment awards show. #freedomofspeech
Right? I kept waiting for the offensive part.. WTF? And then the JT tweets...I don't get it. Which part was offensive? Was this just shitty reporting or are people really that thin skinned.
Why, did Jews take popular components of black culture, nature and treasures (not to mention HUMANS), giving them a different name and ownership? I think Jews would have a lot of similar stuff to say about Hitler, not the other way around buddy!
yes I agree with you in every word you said and i am not going to call you ignorant but if you listen carefully or do some research there's been children shot by the police that done no wrong to the world... simply by pure racism
first of all you don't know, you don't even know if I have a dad..... second there's no need for violence or discrimination, if you had some sense you would research on this matter and then give your opinion without having to try and "hurt" other. Third scared of black woman?!!! If i was ever scared it would be of woman in general but no im not scared of woman or mans, so get back to your ignorant life of being racist
i get tired of guys like him with the race card all the time. Saying white people this white people that stealing stuff from black artist!! Look at Berry Gordy he screwed his own people with their music and made millions of Dollars of them!! All I got 2 say is !!!! QUIT PLAYING THE RACE CARD PEOPLE IT GETS OLD!! LIVE 4 THE FUTURE NOT THE PAST!!! That's why I like jazz artist because i am one and there's NO BLACK & WHITE BULL SH** going on!! We all get along and enjoy playing music for people!!
James Stetz how is he playing the race card? He's simply making a statement, just because somebody mentions race does not mean they're playing the race card, also he is talking about cultural appropriation, like when he said when black people do things that's seen as "ghetto" whenever a white person does it it's seen as cool and edgy just because hes talking about white people and black people that does not mean he's playing the race card.
Have you even been to Ghana? I bet you haven't. What about Nigeria? You do realize that your comment was a result of your feelings being hurt in some way by Jesse's speech right? That's the only reason you made that statement when it has nothing to do with anything he said.
Varius Iuvenalis Herminius They're really dumb? Are you serious? You might wanna do some research on all the inventions that changed the entire world created by AFRICANS. You are the only dumb one here.
Varius Iuvenalis Herminius P.S. "Their like closet to monkeys and they're really dumb." Work on your grammar before insulting anyone else's intelligence. It's spelled *Closest not *Closet Also you got that "closest to monkeys" b.s. from Stormfront. Guess what that claim has been debunked so try again Junior.
why does not being black have anything to do with it? that makes no sense. and WHAT RACIST AND DISCREDITED CONSPIRACY THEORIES? he didn't say anything like that. he is clearly not racist. nothing he has spoken has been discredited. foxnews proves nothing.
A brown Mexican invented color television therefore white and black should stick to black and white television. As stupid as i may sound these stupid faulks take the cake.
"only??" There were whites in the audience, and ones that have received the #BET award b4 too. And "complaining??" #JesseWilliams spoke eloquently about unjust murders! Look, if you feel that a paid official can get away with murdering unarmed ppl, children for Christ's Sake! Then "Complaining" pales in comparison! #mathematics
do you know what racist means? racist prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. he's not saying that one race is superior he's saying we should all be treated fairly and to take note of the the unjust things that have happened speak up about them.
why so he could sell us out to the highest bidder just like Obama has done for 8 years! And Jamey Foxx calls him his Lord and savior! my Lord resides in heaven not the white house!
It's not about black or white, it's about poverty and how people in impoverished areas are treated. I bet you didn't know that two weeks before Freddy Gray was killed, a poor white man was beaten and shot by police. You didn't see his family on the tv, because that story wouldn't make waves. The man had a two children, one who was just a few weeks old. His family was looking for justice, but nobody was around to help. See because the media plays you. The media and the government enslave you, because they want you to think it is a black and white issue, when in fact it's an American issue. Don't let the media and government deceive you.
Recent events and this video... And the people from priveleged and superior race critisizing this because non whites problems are too far below them to realize. This cruel world is making me feel stuck all the time.
so basically, don't speak the truth or you are racist and how dare blacks label something for themselves after years of slavery, how dare they.........I know for a sure you support trump
What so upserd about that have you not seen the footage why are you still not informed and if you are why are you commenting like you aren't? Lots of people seen that video and are going to interpret how they see fit and the way he described can be agreed upon by most people who seen it has nothing to do with the level of peoples stupidity
+Sean Strader The gun was basically an airsoft gun, but wait, they have orange tips, but wait, tamir painted the orange tip black, and basically, it's a real gun to anyone who sees it, because they have no proof it's a gun, and if he points it at people, police have the right to lethal force. The gun and everything is in the evidence. If you think it's wrong, then become a police officer and see how it works out.
HE ISNT BEING RACIST. HE IS NOT HATING ON WHITE AKA HIS OWN ETHNICITY. HE IS STATING THE OBVIOUS THAT LAW ENFORCEMENT IS STILL TREATING BLACK PEOPLE UNFAIRLY.
Coming from Europe, I was fascinated to hear Jesse Williams intelligent and passionate speech as we are not properly informed here on how the situation is in the U.S, if your going to show a speech show the WHOLE thing!
Exactly. He can't fight something that doesn't exist. So all the people coming out in defense of this evil practice are themselves evil. Thank God for Jessie our courageous warrior.
i think it's safe to say this speech did a fantastic job of bringing out the racist in everyone (black and white). Hispanics, asians, native americans, north-african/middle-easterners, way to go. You probably face to most blatant un-fought stereotypes, yet you've retained your dignity throughout this. You've won by not being involved.
I'd respect him more......he earned what he makes. And he's not embarrassed to show his face like you. Did you listen to the the words you heard? Try it. Really....try to understand the meaning as well. It's not that difficult. It's easy to lash out (your anger is at yourself by the way)....not as easy to take a deep breath ......think. Who do you want to be? Just another ignorant, poor racist loser?
Airbloom, these people are so blinded by their own ignorance and arrogance they can't see the truth. Please don't waste your energy. When black people don't have jobs, they get criticized. This young man has an education, an nice job, and no criminal record. He is married and has no baby mama drama. He is a success by all decent standards but that will never be good enough for insecure white people. At some point we have leave them alone with their ignorance because they willingly choose it.
Curious Dev that's no gullible, mostly black people speak out against injustice, so what if a few biracial is for the cause, at least he leans more towards his black half , thank god alot of black people don't think like you.
Yeah, when he heard so many black women were mad about that, he immediately fired the white girl and got him a black girl! You do not want a nation of black women hatin on you! Lol
I'm truly lucky and grateful to have been raised by parents that never once taught me or showed others prejudice. My father grew up during the Civil Rights Movement and, like many at the time, could have easily grown into a racist adult. Thankfully, both brought me up to be respectful and judge one's character based upon their actions, not solely by appearances. I'm certainly not making them out like they're perfect, no one is. But I've been proud for 24 years so far to call them my Mom and Dad. I honestly didn't care about skin colors at any point back in school. I didn't know it was even an issue for people until we first started learning about slavery. I won't pretend to personally know what victims of racism go through, because I don't. But that doesn't mean I'm 100% ignorant on the reality of the subject or that I have no right nor place to have an opinion on it. If my 10 year old self saw this kind of treatment, knowing what I know now, he'd say: "Why are people being so stupid?" I like one thing Timberlake said (not because he said it, just the statement itself), "we're all human". I treat someone the way I would want to be treated, and if he/she gives me a problem, I just don't associate with them. GOD FORBID, more people could do the same.
It's really disturbing to see all these negative comments toward such a great brave man like Jessie. He earned his humanitarian award. He is so far above the ones talking trash about him. There's only one race. The human race. We all need to unite to bring true peace and freedom to the world.
+Peacemaker Jones. He focused on the black community because they are the most suppressed here in America. Just as The middle easterners are the most suppressed on earth. But to change things we all must unite as one. This is the only way and more and more people everyday are realizing this. I have Faith it will all work out. All that's needed is for us to stop using the elites blood money and stop working for them. We must work for ourselves and run our own banking systems. One big help will come when clean free wireless energy is available to the entire planet and there's fortune 500 CEO 's working on this secretly right now. It's the same technology Tesla used long ago. This will give us the means to do it.
+Raymond Reed. You're obviously the piece of shit racists. Anyone who thinks police brutality isn't real are living in a fantasy land or they are rich spoiled ignorant little fucks who have no right to an opinion. So which one are you.
+Mr. C. I have nothing to feel guilt for. I've been this way since as far back as I can remember. I've always known all people are equal and should be treated as such. There's only one race. The human race. Grow up. It's you has problems with your small ego. Unlike you I'm highly educated mentally and spiritually. Spirituality would really benefit you. More ways than you could ever imagine.
Novak you've obviously had no experience with cops. At least not corrupt cops. Maybe you've been extremely lucky and only had encounters with the tiny percent which aren't rapist murderers. They rape and kill innocent people for absolutely no reason. You are so blind and ignorant. You're so pathetic. A waste of my time.
How come when ever a person from the black Community wants to empower other people of the community racists start yelling about the problems they face... If you think it's a problem in your Community maybe you should stand up and say something instead of barking angry slurs on RU-vid
Empower the black so called community? ?? Jesse' s speech is nothing new. Black folks have been saying the same things for the past 30 + years and nothing has changed. Black folks allow emotion to override logic, common sense, and facts. Still smh with regard to black people.
+poppy fox ummm... Who are you calling a racist? There are a ton of racist comments on here but what did I say that was racist? That ufc was calling everyone pieces of shit and calling every country in Africa. He's acting all big and tough on the internet which equates to an Internet gangster/thug or a keyboard assassin . Smh and you didn't get that was poking fun at this tough persona online. BYE!
jesse williams is the living example of how you don't need to be good at math, science or writing to be extremely extremely bright and inteligant. this is why greys is my favorite show
+Glen F how would that be racist? Because white people can't say that their race is being killed by police officers at a higher rate than white people, when black people say that then it's racist?
Glen F do you live in a box or something? Because I'm pretty sure rekia boyd, John Crawford, Eric garner, Samuel debose, walter scott and many more were not fighting the police when they were killed so don't tell me it's only criminals that are subject to police violence. And do you know why there aren't white people protesting against that? Because they don't care enough to do that. And no they would not be dismantled because the kkk, a group that lynched, raped, murdered, and burned African Americans are still standing today so you can not tell me the group you are talking about would be dismantled. And do you watch the news? There have been hundreds of arrests made because of that so know your information before you come here with some bs.
I absolutely love everything that this beautiful looking man said in his speech! As far as I'm concerned, he hit a Grand Slam for speaking his mind. I definitely love what he said, the way he said it, and how he spoke. If people don't appreciate it, then its not for them, its for those of us who actually give a damn about what this country was built on. I totally appreciated his candor at the right time and the right place, when you have that much honesty and truth in front of your face and in your face, there's nothing to argue about. He can live with himself, his conscience, his values and go on loving his wife, his family and the wider world around him. He's definitely going to be retaliated against because the Establishment hates anyone who'll stand up and challenge their so called authority there's no doubt about that, but Jesse felt like he spoke truth to power and he can live with that and his convictions. I have to say that it shouldn't have taken so long for something like this, Malcolm X, Dr. King, Louis Farrakhan, and to a extent Tupac Shakur have espoused all of this and then some. Everything Jesse Williams espoused reminds of what Eric B. and Rakim said in their song, I Ain't No Joke!
+Mr. C I wasn't rude and mean to you, your behavior was completely unnecessary towards me. If you didn't agree with what this person said and how I was moved by what he said, than don't respond. It's your personal business and your personal responsibility if you don't like or appreciate what I was moved by, but to talk to me in a condescending and demeaning fashion is unnecessary and I expect better than that from you and you should know better than that. I really hope that you reevaluate your self-respect and your maturity.
And one more thing...funny to talk about racism in America while you are at a Black Only award show, shown on a black only tv channel. Hmmm...who's creating segregation and racism?
the channel was created to combat the mostly-white media (kinda how there's black history month since we mostly celebrate white historical figures). Nowadays things are a little more diverse but still most channels are run by whites with shows casting predominantly white actors... anyway, that's beside the point. I wish people could have rational conversations but both sides have very dumb vocal majorities, as the average person is pretty dumb and ignorant, regardless of race or nationality.
Eeeexcept that's bullshit. We don't celebrate any Irish historical figures. No Scottish. No Chinese. No Russian. We tend to celebrate American historical figures almost exclusively, and the black population in America has always been a very small percentage. We don't need Black History Month to remember black heroes or icons - there just aren't anywhere near as many of them hailing from this country. That's not racism, that's just reality and math.
Wow... you're an idiot. Ummm because China, Scotland and Russia arn't apart of America, dumbass... LMAO.. Blacks might be a "smaller percentage" but we BUILT this country.... blacks are the only minority groups that have fought in EVERY major US war.... so fuck off.
+Dead inside but still horny They act like every fucking white person is racist and out to get them..bitch we are the majority in this country and we elected a black president! It's 2016 not 1930. If you truly want to be equals then there should be no BET because that causes division. There has to be give and take on all sides to accomplish unity.
Funny how Stacy Dash gets insulted by black people for not being fully black and this guy gets all the praise from blacks even though he's not fully black.
how did you start the clip with Jesse and end it with Justin....RANDOM!! RACISM!!! cant let the guys speech end the clip but JT tweets are now centre stage...BYE
+mjredmonkey He needs to not say that they are killing US. If he was in Tamir Rices' situation, he wouldn't have been killed. Why? He doesn't look black, so he can't identify with the black struggle of discrimination in America. Great speech though.
+Kyle a You guys are so ignorant. It's funny how people think light-skinned and dark-skinned African Americans are 2 different races. It doesn't matter that he's half white, he still has african American genes in his body and these inequality issues still matter. He favors someone of a light-skin African American so one can't say he can't get killed because he's light-skin. He surely doesn't favor someone that is fully caucasian.
Look up "token black" in the dictionary and there's a picture of Jesse Williams. The type of black who looks, talks and acts white despite the extra melanin -- which is exactly why he got hired onto that show. This rant, quite obviously, is a product of "token black" guilt.
In what way does he speak white? Just because he is well spoken that means he speaks white?? Have you been to any other countries in the world and heard other black people speak? There isn't a black way to speak. There's just well spoken and not both exist in all cultures...
Just like there is hick talk and ghetto talk, there is speaking white and speaking black. IE European English vs US English. If you think there isn't a difference between speaking white and speaking black, you are delusional. Intentionally denying the truth isn't helping..
everyone boo this man, hes not speaking on togetherness hes spreading hatred among humans. this is not what martin luther king spoke of this man does not speak on my behalf one love peace to every race together we stand.
Funny how Whites are suddenly trying to co-op Blacks with White blood all of a sudden. 150 years ago, if his great grand mother had been raped by a white boy you would have been calling him the N word...now a half black is "not even black", lol. But the larger point is, why does somebody have to be black to speak the truth. There were White abolitionists for e.g. like John Brown. You don't need to be a part of the oppressed group to recognize oppression. That being said tho, it seems to me that White Americans always try to rationalize wrongs instead of just accepting the truth and saying F it...this is who I am. For e.g. when its time to overthrow another [brown or black] leader and steal their resources, White America has to give the schpill about him being a terrorist, or evil, or crazy or make some other silly back story up. Just embrace who you are. If you're the bad guy so what.
A message from Ben Carson when he appeared on 'Fox and Friends': "My message would be that we, the American people are not each others enemies, but there are those who are trying to stir us up and create conflict for their own nefarious purposes, and we have to be smart enough not to allow them to succeed."
I'm still trying to figure out how anyone outside of my race and or community can tell me what I experience and what I need to do. There are too many opinions with no true background knowledge of what is really going on. I have no opinion about something that I know nothing about and only a fool will comment just to have something to say. When your being uplifting to others people become defensive about things that have nothing to do with them or maybe it does. If I said in a crowded room of people how much I can't stand thieves, only the thieves will be offended. If you are not guilty than there is no need to respond or react unless it is for the cause. It's all love. Remember that just because you don't have the problems that I have or can not see my problems, that does not mean they are not there. You have to walk in my shoes in order to tell me how each step felt.
Chris Weber what does looks have to do with a cause, example the gay rights movement, a lot of straight people were for their cause, beside there were whites who speak out against the system treatment of blacks with MLK.
Anyone that gets up before a huge audience and makes a passionate plea to make the world a better place is a good person in my eyes. Well done Jesse Williams, it takes big cajones to say it like it is.
Jesse Williams was simply telling a harsh reality of how America is for African American people racism is still alive and well so is police brutality like it or not yes it happens to everybody but black people in America have been facing it for hundreds of years in a more concentrated form. A lot has changed but it gets tiring of seeing the same thing in a different time period
