I will never forget the first time I saw Jesse. It was in 2009 Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2. It seemed like everytime I would catch it his part would come up. Glad he got more serious rolls and not just a one time Actor.

1. The problem with making the Oscars more diverse is really the fact that we’re still not making enough films where the director and/or cast is of color. It’s slowly getting better, but if you think about the sheer number of primarily white films being made, they just have the strength of sheer numbers on their side (if you make 100 films, 5-10 are bound to be excellent). 2. Also, if Get Out deserves any award, it is the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. The writing was absolutely brilliant. And I say that as both a voracious reader and an aspiring writer.

3. I LOVED Black Panther. Like I’m an MCU fangirl/nerd, and it made it to my #1 spot for favorite MCU film. Even still... the only Oscar award I would perhaps qualify it for in terms of sheer cinematic excellence is Michael B. Jordan for Best Supporting Actor. The thing is, MCU films are fantastic at providing great comic book adaptations, but comic adaptations are intrinsically not competitive with the art of original screenplays or even the rare book adaptation (such as LotR). Black Panther was great and I loved it (saw it 3 times opening weekend), but it wasn’t FANTASTIC. However, I hope it opens the door for the production of more original black fantasy/sci-fi films that can be the unequivocal best of their year.
