LM5hassnatchedme already Pple do it quite often in Asia it’s rly not a big deal my friends and I make fun of each other’s accents when trying to say smth in each other’s languages and like even some local half-foreign celebrities are iconic for their odd accents.
HoneySuckle Maybe cuz of the way white people do it??? Like ummm... how to say. For us Asians (at least within my group of friends and the people I’m exposed to) we tend to tease foreigners for the way they mispronounce our words. But we don’t do it mockingly... rather we do it just jokingly. Like my sister’s Tagalog is hilarious (we moved to Singapore from Philippines when she was still very young so she didn’t learn any Tagalog until she was a older) and we constantly tease her accent and call her Samantha Milby after a Filipino actor named Sam Milby who speaks Tagalog with an odd accent.
Also let’s be honest... knowing english is often seen as a standard for intelligence. No one’s gonna care if you tease a French for not knowing Thai, but it’s more likely they’ll get offended if you point out that they can’t speak English
Now when i look back at it they were laughing at her thats not nice 😭 And they always overdo it with imitating, the same with Jessi's accent. She was soo done and over it and ppl kept going.
I used to find that funny in the past but thinking about it, it's mean.. If they mocked my accent, I think I will lose all my self confidence if I have to speak korean.
