I just had a kid so I am looking for ways to make the best costumes and toys possible for him; that is how I found you. Excellent tutorial I love how you do the two-part mold with the foam insert with resin is expensive as it is its a good tip do you find the baby powder to leave striations or other imperfections on the surface? again love the video glad to be a subscriber

How heavy does plastic resin get? I have a prop I made about 72x5x9(LxWxH) inch prop I made that is already 18 pounds. How much lighter or heavier would I make it if I created a mould and used the plastic resin+foam method. It was originally created with polyester resin, fibreglass, and bondo body filler on the outside. On the inside, it is filled with polyurethane foam.

to ask the dumb question do you have a tutor on how to make the molds? I'm kind of an amateur... okay so super amateur but I work diligently on this kind of stuff and would like to find a more cost effective way of making the molds than ye olde LEGO mold box.

+AngryHamsterGaming you make the master mold by molding it from a larger master mold of a master mold and if you ask next where to get the larger master mold I'll of course reply, it's master molds all the way down.

I am new to cosplay and was wondering would this work for say doing something like a daedric sword or weapon as well? also was wondering where you got the foam template from or how did you make it??

You first make a master mold, often from foam cuz it's easy to sculpt. It should work on a sword or any other prop. However, I'm not sure how that works with the tensile strength of resin and the length of the sword, etc.

There is a translucent resin in the same family, look for smooth-cast 320, though I would assume in the 3 months since you posted this you were able to get your answer. : )

how do you keep the three batches the same shade of grey? Also, how well does a fresh batch bond with already harden batch?

I always wonder why Bill uses baby powder as his mold release agent as it is kind of a hassle and can obscure details or produce unwanted textures. I use a spray-on mold release agent cuz it's fool-proof...and I am indeed a fool. Spray-on mold release is sold by Smooth-On and all resin/epoxy suppliers.

it looks a lot like this tutorial was last minute and not thought out very well. No real details, no explanations, and one camera and no detail shots... not a good tutorial.. you mix this and that and put it in and its done! yay! i expected something a lot better from Doran.

It is Jessica Nigri...if you look at her Videos how she did her cosplays, you will see it is exactly the same. She does nothig herself and she has no idea WHAT she is doing. I bet he cut his Tutorial down so Nigri doesnt show her true nature.
