Does Jessica Pegula ever have a bad loss any more? Just so consistent week in and week out. Maybe not the best in the world but just a solid professional tennis player. So much respect for her.

JPeg has been more consistent than most of the current top 10 except Iga throughout the year. She doesn’t rely on only one big title or one big win but she’s consistently making it deep in almost every tournament she enters. Gets the job done, win matches she’s suppose to win, and lost only when the other opponents are actually really good (not losing because of her chokkng). Absolute professionalism. Hope she keeps improving to unlock that next level result.

Good win for Pegula. She has no real big weapon to rely on, but her consistency and low error count make her hard to beat. Raducanu should take heart from the fact that she didn’t play badly; Pegula was just too consistent and steady throughout the match. The women’s draw is opening up with Swiatek and Jabeur also losing to lower-ranked opponents in the round of 16.

actually so interesting that I saw Pegula play in the newport challenger 4 years ago before anyone knew her. same as andreescu, who hadn't won us open yet. I saw her hitting and thought damn I have never seen any woman hit the ball cleaner than her, why is she playing a challenger? And then BAM Andreescu won the US Open that year and Pegula is now top 5. Insane.

Jess has a very forward-thinking demeanour throughout a rally , which I love, her shots may not be as lethal as Emma’s but it’s almost like she’s in control of the rally nonetheless, unless she really is put on the defensive or someone throws her rhythm off like Haley did with similar demeanour. Almost like she’s communicating “I’m ready for this”. That’s why she does so consistently well against those ranked below her. Not much fazes her. Whereas other players it just looks like they are itching to unleash and stressed for that reason, almost too much in the moment, ironically enough makes them seem less present in the match. Pegula is very meta on the other hand lol. And therefore more present .

@D_JIM99
@D_JIM99 Год назад
I’m rooting for Emma and followed her every tournament, but she definitely needs a coach. Garcia crushed Pegula and Emma lost her match to Garcia at Wimbledon. When she against a more consistent and tougher opponent she thinks too much. When that happens she loses the crucial points. I really hope she gets a coach to work with that will get her in the right direction. The way she played at US open last year was with so much confidence and without anything to lose. I don’t see her getting far this year at the US open. She will drop back in her ranking and based on her level at this moment it is quite fair. Against Pegula I saw she consistently made wrong choices. She was out of sorts with game-plan. So I hope she finds a coach that will help her to become that player that has the confidence as an all-rounder and adapt and adjust whatever is needed playing against her opponents.

In current form, Raducanu can't overpower her opponents, so she has to rely on good angles & aggressive shotmaking (in other words, higher risk tennis). Batting groundstrokes to opponents directly at them or at/near the middle of the baseline just won't do against top players who can easily redirect those balls and dictate points.
@jgooner894

People are so mean to Raducanu! This match was pretty close. The most important thing for me is that Emma is very eager to improve and she works hard. Keep in mind that she is only 19. And, BTW, it is not her fault that she is a marketing star (Brit, mixed race with Chinese origin and won in US soil). The fact that many of you dont like her but still watch and comment in every video of her matchs says it all!

On the bright side, she gained 14 points with this tourney according to live WTA ranking and sits at #11. On the dark side, she will need to defend the 2k points at the USO. If for whatever reason that she failed to do so at any rounds, she will be out of the top 50 or worst between 75 to about 90. If that’s the case, she will be back as a qualifier in any tournament the following month except maybe WTA 125. That’s my take on ER! What do you guys think?

@@Dark0blivion IMO, Andreescu case was a bit different as she was ranked #178 at the end of 2018 and then she won the USO in 2019 and ended the year at #5. In 2020 she still managed to be in the top 10 at #7 then the worst came to her in 2021 and she got injured plus the mental health conditions and did not play. Hence her ranking plummeted and now just trying to play again. So she really did not come out of nowhere.

Did you express a take there? You commented a fact on potential results but not what you think. Lighter balls...the only reason for her improvement
@ileanasantamaria2364
@ileanasantamaria2364 Год назад
@@azharshaharuddin8850 You know, that makes perfect sense. Emma is a lightweight, literally - her rally ball is not consistently deep, and her technique and frail frame make it difficult to get consistent depth. Power players with solid movement, and there are many, eat that combination for breakfast. She doesn't have any exceptional strengths or weapons, and it shows against a better class of opponent than she had in those ten matches in New York last year. Still a remarkable accomplishment, but it must be put in perspective, and the reality check that this year has been for Emma has done just that.
