Nobody hated her. I think she wasn't that popular because her record label changed her image and the way she sang in her second album. Her 1st album was great.

Britney could absolutely have been marketed as a vocalist, watch any of her prefame clips, but she would never have been as big as became.
Britney had more charisma, better songs, videos and was a better dancer and overall performer. Jessica is definitely the better singer but Britney was just the teen pop Queen. She just has that superstar quality. It's not Britney's fault she was more successful musically. Jessica still did well for herself. Two hit albums, a successful tv show and a billion dollar fashion empire. She's done very well.

There are some live versions, you can't imagine, how she took this song … But she ruined her voice singing it too often.
After singing this song she never again released something as powerful probably cuz it destroyed her untrained vocal chords at a young age. A ridiculously difficult song overall.

I understand what Len is saying. I disagree though, she definitely trained extensively on her vocals. However, this song is very difficult to sing. And what I've seen on RU-vid, she has sang live on every single video that I've seen. I believe this song and similar songs that are on this scale vocally have definitely damaged her vocal cords. If you notice, she is not able to belt these high notes and sing powerfully and not take a breath to the very end. She can't do it anymore so I think it has done damage bc she can't sing and hold her notes like that anymore :( plus later around the end if newly Weds she picked up some strange and bizzare mannerism while she's singing on stage. If you check out the video of her and jewel it's like shes possessed and had Parkinson's disease while she's singing,bits sad :( I do know she has struggled with substance abuse in the past and has admitted to being drunk and on a bunch of diet pills and sang live on stage. Idk

supposedly the record co told her to stop singing songs like this that display her real talent, as they" intimidate" the average dolt singing in the car/shower; they told her to sing easier stuff that's more relatable to the mainstream audience.
Megzz I haven’t got that far yet in the book but on her tv show with nick at the time there’s an episode of her being upset that her record company wanted her to not sing so big so others could sing along. So she’s now saying something different?

This is the only performance where she sings it exactly as the song on the record. I love Jessica, she's so underrated as a singer in the 90s. We had it made as teens. In a lot of ways Jessica was better than Christina.
ialwaysbesingin I think because of he company didn't invest on her, didn't prompt her and didn't give her good music. Cause she can really sing, her 2nd and 3rd albums were really pop nothing showcased her vocals and range, so she got buried. After that she started acting and wasn't that good.
Jessica was certainly better than Britney but she was never better than Christina. She had potential and some decent moments like this performance here but her technique was worse than Xtina's who was factually able to maintain her voice up until now (carpool karaoke) unlike Jessica who deteriorated very quickly up until this day and age in which her voice is severely damaged. In terms of skills, Jessica lacked the agility, the falsetto/headvoice control, the lows and the powerful timbre that Xtina possessed which Jessica made up by a better and higher chest voice belting technique but then again she's always had pitch issues when belting which I'd say was her biggest problem aside from the fact that she used to oversing more than debut-christina and debut beyonce which says a lot too btw. I really wish she had gotten vocal training or at least stopped changing her technique so much and be more consistent with her style and sound because Jessica had so much potential to become a great singer. She definitely deserved it.
