Such a Such a helpful song. I am alive and I am grateful for being especially here with you; listeners and readers, who come to revel and rejoice in the wonder of Jessye’s gift. I am comforted - not just by Jessye’s voice but by anyone here for the same. XO May we get another in our life - too much to ask. I’m ok with that. Thanks for reading. Happy New Year 2023.
I like Sanctus sung by Ms Norman the best. I used to mention Tiger Woods to explain where I lived in the States. I think I had better tell the world that I used to live in a city where she was born.
On this Christmas eve 2020 I could not think of a better way to make feel in the mood by listening to Jesssye Norman "Sanctus" at Nore Dame. Fabulous artiste and woman who left to soon.
Thanks to Jessye Norman for her life and singing. May she have a blast in heaven with Toni Morrison and Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone. Please keep blessing us from on high Angel Jessye.
Certainly this arrangement is unique and demonstrates the art of not only Norman but the orchestra and choir as well. It is hardly unusual for critics not to like a particular interpretation of a musical composition. We all have a right to our opinions. I genuinely love Jessye Norman's version of this composition and find it very uplifting and beautiful.
i cold not agree more wwith you. Miss Norman avoids in this fragmant all the politics associated with this work. It is all about the beauty of the voice and the message asscociated with it. Best way of dealing with this is a neutral christian view. That is in general a good attitude in this time and age.
@@alexadam353: I prefer Ms Norman’s richer fuller tone and of course this performance in Notre Dame was outstanding. God, the world misses her; there’s no voice comparable. But thanks for sharing your opinion.
She was sheer excellence!!!! Space is beyond our reach and so was her talent. She soared the heavens with her distinct voice that captured every soul on this planet. She will forever be in our thoughts......BRAVO!!!!
The setting is commensurate with her glorious voice. God Almighty was working overtime when he created the voice box and vocal chords for this magnificent human being. She could quiet a forest of song birds, as they listen in awe and envy.
“She sings, and the sound of her voice is so sweet the birds hush their singing” . Can it be said that Jessye Norman made the world a better place? Thank God her family recognized her gifts early and encouraged her development. Magnificent lady.
Meu Deus!
If you don`t like my free comment - don`t read it! Only because someone is a SUPERSTAR like Jesse(andf YES -she has an outstanding great voice -no doubt!!) doesn`t mean, that she is great in everything - my opinion(and you do not have to agree with) is , that Jesse does not respect this piece of Gounod with the right emotional interpretation. I know the Cäcilienmesse since 40 Years - heard dozens of versions - but never that bad than Jesse`s Version - but i respect that in other cases - she is brilliant - definitely! Normally - everyone will get tears in the eyes when hearing The Sanctus of Gounod`s Messe, even the first time - what Jesse does in this version is not helpful - to be gentle - but YES - she is one of the greatest voices in this century - you do not have to inform me about this - there are really great interpretations she did - and still does, but NOT Gounod!
A well-made point only needs to be asserted once. You're on your fifth reiteration, and it's no more convincing than your first. Let's compare you and Jessye [note the correct spelling of her name], THEN we can talk about what constitutes a "nothing."
are you kidding?? this is a catastrophical abuse of this wonderful composition of Gounod!! It doesn`t matter, how famous Jesse Norman is.. she is simply not able to sing this song with heart... I could puke...listening to this version... what a shame!
