Sorry to hear of your daughter’s passing. I lost an infant brother years ago. I get it. Bach composed an extraordinary piece here. I always sing it the original German. The lyrics are such a beautiful offering to our Lord and Savior.
Watching someone play the pipe organ never ceases to amaze me. I cannot even begin to fathom the amount of practice it must take to get both of your feet to do something different while both hands are doing something different, and then jumping between keys and reading music. My brain could never do that much at once, lol.

My mom taught piano in our living room in the 60s and 70s. As the last of her 7 children were in high school (i was the youngest) she finally had some time to take some organ lessons, which she had always wanted to learn. I remember her playing this piece over and over. The feet were what she had to figure out. She passed away just a few years later when I was in college. This piece will always bring a tear to my eye. Thanks for showing the foot work.

Agreed, the tempo is excellent. For my money, many popular recordings and videos of this composition are rushed! Mr. Marshall's rendition has a very pleasing ebb and flow. Why race to the end of such beautiful music?
Luxuriate in the beauty of the piece. Tempo is perfect! I think this pace also allows the ear to better hear the different levels of what's being played. The faster versions sound convoluted.

This is my favorite piece of music After hearing this the first time in 1970, ,played by the late E.Power Biggs, I fell in love with classical music and the organ. I have played this piece of music for so many weddings, and for church services. My dear friend, the late Virgil Fox, played this for me in a private organ recital he gave at a friend's church. Thank you for this beautiful arrangement of my favorite piece of music. Beautifully done.
When I was a boy I qualified for one year of free piano lessons, which I refused because at the time my interest were football and video games. How I regret that decision, I know it's never too late to learn but if had taken those lessons I would be playing wonderful music like this. Live and learn.
It gets harder to take piano lessons when you're older because of 1) work 2) family 3) free time 4) physical limitations 5) mental acuity. Take the lessons while you're young! Forget football: it'll only wreck your knees!

Love how well you combine the Vox Humana, Vox Celeste and tremulant to imitate the parts of this Bach cantata that a choir or soloist would sing. Bach composed this for Sunday service as he had to compose cantatas for Sunday service every week as the Music Director
I heard a loud version of this in a church in Italy, The Reverb and Acoustics were so good that I had goose pimples and a lump in my throat!!!! Beautiful
Finally a new organ for St Mattehw's? That is where I took lessons from William Crosbie. My first recital was there April 2 1971. Congratulations to Marshall and Ogletree on the installation this recording sounds perfect for the church as I remember it.

This beautiful piece of music is frequently played either with the organ or piano before the wedding ceremony begins and people are being led to their respective pews. Well, in Anglican/Church of England ceremonies at any rate. When you enter a church, it is a solemn and respectful moment, and that is the mood before a wedding. Celebratory music would to my mind, traditionally come after the ceremony. Personally, I see the words as a familiar love for Jesus, and not about a dying person; quite literally a song about Jesus and joy. I picked this for my wedding as well Lee Jones but the processional for my wife was Trumpet Voluntary with organ and trumpet in a small church in Manila.
