Ricardo Afonso and the cast of Jesus Christ Superstar 2019 take to the stage at West End Live on 22 June.
Our award-winning production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar returns for just 60 performances at the Barbican from 4 July - 24 August.

He sounded amazing at the Barbican. I hope we get a cast recording of this current cast because they are all absolutely fantastic. Great venue for the show too.

I saw this at the Barbican yesterday. It was incredible and Roberto Afonso as Judas was outstanding. Spine tingling. This doesn't do him justice.

I've seen this twice already at the Barbican and going to see it again on Monday. This is one of my favourite musicals. This rendition of this musical at the Barbican is phenomenal. If musicals are your thing, I would 100% recommend, no joke. Also, I know the dancing looks a bit odd in this video, but trustttt if you see it live, it fits so well.

I’ve just been introduced to Roberto Afonso and HOLY CRAP TBIS MAN CAN SAAAANNNGGGGG... where has he been all 20 years of my life...he’s insane and I keep seeing in the comments that he is even better than this. He belt and rasp and riffs are insane. I have always wondered tho why Judas has always been a black guy. OMG GOOD HIS BELT AT THE TOP OMG

He hasn’t always been a black actor, there’s been quite a few incarnations. The original was, and so that characterisation is most popular.

But also, yes, when he did this show, he got three standing ovations at various points. I’ve seen tons of musical theatre and he easily put out the best vocal performance I have ever witnessed.

Google User Judas is paid in silver to betray Jesus, but in this production they used silver paint to represent that- like he’s caught red handed with the money. Big Lady Macbeth vibes.

Was looking for a comment about this. Think the face covering thing is meant to symbolise the followers being blind but imo is a bit of an offense to blind people if that's how you represent blindness

He definitely has the best voice I ever heard as JUDAS... his voice is absolutely insane. He belt on high high like A, WTH and his riffs. He has it all
