Christmas 2022. STANDING OVATION! You're damn right! I've been obsessed with JCS since 1969, and have seen every recorded production I could get my hands on, and this one was amongst the best. I refuse to believe that this was anything other than a PROFESSIONAL endeavor. Kudos to everyone involved. The director directed the hell out of this. The timing, a crucial aspect, was right on. And the emotions of the ensemble were genuine, making the entire production MAGICAL. Everyone involved should be very proud. And thank you for presenting this.
Absolutely incredible! All I can say is BRAVO!!!! I was in my local production in 1990. One of the most difficult scores that I ever performed. I am really impressed with this production. The cast is so talented.
My God, this was fantastic. When Judas grasped Jesus in a hug at the end of The Last Supper I sobbed. So painful. So tormented. So real. I know this comment comes at the end of 2022, but I was incredibly surprised and moved at this performance. Bravo.
I feel really bad for Simon. I was sick for a performance once, and I couldn't hit anything above an E. It just really stinks to work for months towards such a small performance window to display your talents and hard work... Only to have it all ruined last minute by an untimely sickness. It's one of the most frustrating feelings in the world.
Wow! I watched because the comments were positive but I was not expecting it to be so good! Judas, Jesus and Mary are fantastic singers who could teach one thing or two to the pros. Thank you so much for uploading! Regards from the BC Sunshine Coast..💙
Was hoping I cold find an OCU production online since Im going there next year to study Music Theatre. Holy crap this is good. ITS SO HIGH, the males are in the rafters. Mad respect to anyone who would even attempt this stuff.
I watched over 10 amateur performances on RU-vid over the last week, and dozens in my life for 20 years that I am a devoted fan of JCS. It is very clear that this one is the best sounding amateur production among ALL. I can't believe they gathered so many WORLD tier voices. Even a "soldier" sings better than half of main characters in many other productions, holy molly!
Wow, what an amazing show! I have to say this is one of the best productions I've seen of it so far! And that includes that 2000 version done by professionals! I'm saving this because it's so well done!
I would like to pay tribute to two of our brothers in this production. Tevyn Hill and Michael Schafer. We love you and you are still a part of our hearts and artistry. We will never forget y’all or your legacy.
Having played in the pit in a way off Broadway production, I have to say it is one of the more challenging scores to perform well..... After watching it twice....I have to say this is much better then the current Broadway production!! I have much respect for the cast!
Brilliant Chorus work backing up some excellent Lead players with a few sour notes here&there but that might just be recording sound quality too. The Wizard's congratz and I give you guys 4 1/2 out of 5 !!!!! Points Great energy guys .....Amen
herods rocks... simmon zelotes seemed as he was losing his voice... madaleine is gorgeous... over all, very moving...a truly lovely work.. congrats to all envolved...
Colin. Killed it, bro. Anderson is fantastic. Very different than hat I'm currently used to, but everyone's different than MAB. I wish Simon wasn't sick, I'm sure he's got a killer voice! Sorry, just got curious about y'all's production!
Nice cast!! Judas sounds amazing on 'heaven on their minds' and 'Damned for all time'. Jesus on the 'Gethsemane' high notes = WOW. And loved the king Herod scene! Caiaphas and the priests were also wonderful! One question: Why did they cut the Hosanna song? Just wondering....
Sarahi Gomez "Hosanna" as sung here is faithful to the original as performed on Broadway (I saw it in 1970) The longer version came about when the film version was made in 1973 and is what is USUALLY sung in modern productions. This EXCELLENT production probably wanted to remain closer to the original format (a wise decision!)
This a really great performance! I don't mean this as a bad thing, but the actor playing Judas reminds me of David Cross playing Tobias Funke on Arressted Development. I can't help but think Tobias would love to play the part as well as this actor :)
I’m pretty confused as to how they managed to find these absolutely killer vocalists, and then failed to direct a good show around that. If you took away the video from this, and just had the audio I’d say “my gosh, I can’t believe a college production pulled this off” But then I watched the acting, choreography, and blocking. The lighting designer is doing a good job. The set designer did an admirable job as well. But that’s it. The costuming is real bad. You can’t pick your main characters out of a crowd. There are WAY too many people on stage most of the time. I’m trying to wrap my mind around how the immense talent on display here from the actors,(not to mention the budget) went completely squandered by the directors, and faculty. (If people are laughing during this show, you’ve missed the mark) Again props to the students.
Ex👏act👏ly👏They honestly sound pretty good but the choreography/direction is incredibly boring and the costumes make my eyes hurt trying to find Judas or Simon among the crowd.
Sorry I'm like 7 years late! You're probably refering to a technique popular in musical theatre and live performances called stolen time. You take some beats from one portion of a rest for vocals but must return it to maintain pace with the song. It just adds a vocalists personal style to a song to better reflect how they feel or to showcase some of their skills.
The guy playing Pilate was awesome. Wow. I was also a big fan of this Jesus and Herod. I felt bad for Simon, being ill for a performance must be frustating. Judas' voice was great, but his acting was a little off in my opinion. All in all this was very impressive though!
Because the Disciples are dumb AF and didn't get the slightest hint of what have just happened and the just want to party and enjoy (nothing wrong with that!)
kevin chagnot You were there? A lot of theological scholarship has been devoted to Judas' motivations....everything from a money-hungry traitor to the one convinced by Jesus himself to aid in fulfilling the mission. The gnostic gospels speak a different tale of Judas, though there are issues with their authenticity. If you are going to be at odds with anything in this musical, why not be at odds with Jesus' apparent fatigue, irritability and doubts about his own mission (which, I personally, find a fascinating hypothesis)
Gerard Young our will is only bound to Sinful desires.... sin is what causes our slavery, before Christ we were slaves to sin with Christ we are counted as heirs with him to the covenants that were given to Abraham, Judas cared only for money that was all Jesus called Judas a devil among them
I hate hearing ppl screech to hit notes that aren't in their range. These characters were written for certain ppl in mind, so anyone playing Jesus or judas should sing the roles more like themselves x not copying anyone they've heard bc they just sound cringey...like these dudes. But the ensemble was decent and...yeah, that's all I got.
