I actually performed on stage with Peter Johansson (Judas) last year and I gotta say, he was such a nice dude. My orchestra performed one number with him and three other Swedish celebrities at a concert and him and Bruno Mitsogiannis were the only ones who came and talked to us backstage. They quizzed us on classic rock artists and they were such cool guys. When I realized just who it was who played Judas here it was such a strange feeling lol.
This is the single most emotional Judas death. He truly seems like a person going through a mental breakdown, and previous scenes with him covering his ears and rocking back and forth really make me want to cover him in a blanket and give him a shoulder to cry on. Doesn't help that his death is fully shown.
So interesting how different the lyrics are! Really gives a whole new meaning (or at least shifts the meaning) of some songs and gives new understand to the characters. I’m so happy I can finally know the original lyrics to this and thank you for letting me do that in one big video.
Peter Johansson is, in my humble opinion, the only actor to portray Judas who gets anywhere close to Carl Anderson in regards of vocal chops. Even Ramin Karimloo, whom I adore as The Phantom, fell short of expectations but Peter does it so well. I'm always amazed by how he hits the notes, and the raw emotion his performance exudes.
He also makes Judas' feelings towards Jesus a lot less cold, then I've seen others make it. I feel like the closeness the two of them have makes everything so much more emotional. His Judas is a lot more emotional regarding how his actions hurt Jesus rather than how his actions him personally
Considering the two most moving pieces in this musical IMO, there are more emotive versions of Gethsemane out there, but I never in my lifetime have seen a more perfect rendition of Judas' Death than by Peter Johansson in this video. His performance, technically and emotionally, is absolutely heart-wrenching and authentic. It is exactly how I imagine the real Judas himself must have reacted upon realizing he had made the worst decision of all time, killing the Son of God. That performance was 100% felt by Mr. Johansson. I'm wrecked and weeping after watching it - several times by now, I might add.
i never shut up about the effort it took but boy was it worth it! i really thought thisd be like, a weeks worth of subtitling. NAH. LMAO worth it tho! really glad i can provide this!!
Hello :) First of all, thank you for doing this and allowing us non-swedish speakers to know what the lyrics say in this production. Of course, i really appreaciate the other translation out there and i find it really interesting comparing that one to this. It's always nice knowing what the actors are singing about even if the production itself is masterful and i know JCS by heart. I was wondering if maybe you still had the sub file somewhere? I want to share this amazing production with my family but they don't speak English, so I want translate it into Spanish for them. If you have the file and are willing to share it, that would be a huge help. If not, that's totally ok. Thank you again for undertaking this project :)
of course! if you have an e-mail -- a throwaway is fine if you are not comfortable posting it in comments -- i'd be happy to send the file to you. i use aegisub and would recommend that program if you are planning to translate EDIT: I have added an e-mail address that you can contact me with on my channel, in the about section. No need to create a throwaway e-mail or post your real one.
@@biowired I am sorry, do you still have the original text? There's a group did the Chinese translation but some are wrongly translated /lost text and not translated at all. So I would like to add some remarks to help people understand to correct meaning. Thank you in advance, for reading this text/ providing the text/ translating such a long musical
@@takpuilo9776 hey, i'm sorry for missing this! i do still have the subtitle file that i made, is that the one you are referring to? feel free to e-mail me about this at sjstrmjack@gmail.com
Thank you so much for sharing this and adding eng subs! Such a great show, felt mesmerised by the whole wonderful talented cast, and especially the way Judas got portrayed, ah just stunning work, all of them! Thank you :)
Um, interesting. As Catholic and a rabid JSS fan, I am a bit perplexed, is this a Swedish death metal version? Is it Vampiric? Good grief, it's so DARK, I guess I have to figure if I'm comfortable with it.That being said , the guy who plays Judas steals the show, plus, he's so damn sexy he hurts my eyes, in a good way.
thank you! i know im responding late lol but i appreciate this. it was very hard to hear at some points and especially going off of no original lyrics online to help me so i really appreciate it and ill get to changing it
love this but just a nitpick - I'm like 60% sure 'arme' in Simon Zealotes is in the sense of 'poor/pitiful' rather than the verb 'arm', given that the english lyric is 'poor jerusalem'. Anyway, I know how much work these projects are and thank you!
great point! definitely feel free to provide more of these nitpicks, there's stuff im not gonna catch on as quickly as some of you, but im gonna look into that because it definitely sounds right! thank you!
Una de las razones por las que Jesucristo Superstar es una de mis obras favoritas es que me parece una de las obras mas antisemitas y anticristianas que hay.
I saw "Jesus christ superstar" yesterday. It was all in english and it was amazing. It made me remember when I saw this one qbout then years ago. Really wanted to rewatch It. Thank you for making that possible
Would you be so kind to.share the original text with me too please? I'm from spain and I'm doing a research university work about this jcs production and it's being really difficult for me to find the swedish lyrics on the net.
Idk if you or RU-vid are deleting my comments... If it's you, I am sorry for writing again. I just wanted to offer to translate the subs to German and Korean.
Can’t hear any clapping! Hope there was some, it was an extraordinary performance despite not sticking to the original lyrics, many of which are from the bible. I don’t think Tim Rice would be happy with lyric changes.
They have changed so many lyrics, it it NOT Jesus Christ Superstar. It is masquerading as it. It is false. I am surprised the got permission to do this, or perhaps they didn’t.They are all very good singers, though, I will give them that. It is a very unusual production and very well done.
But if they got the permission to do this, it's okay then I guess😮 I like how each version of this musical feels different from one another; the way they develop new stories based on the structure given is amazing to me✨
Dude how many times did you comment about this? I use interpreters in my everyday life and this is totally copacetic. This is just how translation works when it comes to performances. It's not a lyric change, it's a language change.
I really don’t know why they changed the lyrics, the original are perfect and are Tim’s hard work and legacy. Why use Andrew Lloyd Webber’s music but discard Tim Rice’s lyrics? It is sacrilege! The performance is excellent, it is such a shame.
I think a lot of it is just translation? They'll have to change some lyrics when translating to Swedish so it flows better, so the translations back to English would be a little different as well. At its core, the lyrics are still the same thing.
@@beaed9296Lyrics are typically interpreted rather than translated directly. Lyrics have to fit the meter of the song, and a direct translation wouldnt rhyme and would have a different syllable count. They also just might not make sense in the new language, certain metaphors and slang don't translate very well and idioms completely break. So they tried to interpret the meaning of the lyrics into Swedish rather than just saying the same line in Swedish.
@@blueturtle3623 I agree. I'm Italian and trying to translate English in my language is a terrible task. So difficult, and the results are often very poor. I think here they did a good job. The two languages have the same roots.
