Ugly truth is that *ALL* of us were once like those mockers in the room, before God decided to save us from ourselves. Sometimes even as believers, we still can act like the mockers.
And many “believers” continue to ignore His commandments, focusing instead on the forgiveness He offers instead of the Spirit who enables us to obedience of His Instructions (Torah). Sin is Torahlessness. 1 John 3:4
@@rmp7400 This is not Biblical. The worship (veneration) of saints is Roman syncretism. Worship of anyone other than Yeshua is forbidden. Miryam (Mary) was born a sinner, and learned via the Spirit, to live righteously, that is keeping Torah. Come out of her My people.
Herod and others in this scene didn't frame, torture and kill Christ. It was the very godly - in fact, 'too godly'/judgmental type - who framed, tortured and killed him. We should be more like Jesus and not look down on and judge others. The most abominable, un-christlike actions today come from those who claim to act in the name of god.
watching this movie, Jim Caviezel's performance becomes much more meaningful knowing that while filming, he prayed to God to not let the audience see him but Jesus through him. I think thats why Passion of The Christ stands out among Jesus movies.
I always thought that when I look at pictures of the actor Jim, he literally appears to be a different man than the man in this movie. Quite interesting to think about that given what you’re saying.
Yes an atheist came to the faith thru this film, his name is Paul a missionary in England, his channel is called „closer to God“ here on this platform, just watch his testimony ,
@Moon Shoes Far from what it means, but at the same time, you made a perfect example of why it's better to not waste your time on some people which is the point of the parable
@@cowel8734 The point of the parable is to dehumanize people who don’t agree, and give you an out from critical thinking. You’re a perfect example of that. Notice I didn’t have to dehumanize you to express disagreement. Another likely difference between us….I just think you’re wrong. Where you probably believe I am deserving of eternal torment. Am I wrong? Do your beliefs include the idea that people who don’t believe will be judged and end up in a place like hell?
@@moonshoes11 The biggest flaw of Christianity: "If you dont believe what I believe, you will suffer your entire life, and then burn for all eternity after you die. Even if you never even heard of Christ". I know Catholics and many other denominations are little more lenient on this front, the Catholic concept of "pre - Christ righteous pagans" comes to mind, but still, most Christians believe that someone being tortured forever is an acceptable thing to do to someone. If you torture people, your evil, so if god is fine with "bad" (no such thing, people are a product of their environment, genetics and experiences) people going to hell, then he is by my standards, an evil god. But in reality, the very concept of omnipotence is a human creation. NO one really knows the truth, and claiming certainty is for con men and fools. Claiming certainty destroys discovery, imagination and the scientific processes that have led to our lives improving. Claiming certainty stunts growth and innovation. Why claim to be certain when you can live a life of intriguing and mind expanding thought experiments regarding the true nature of the universe? Christians are kings of claiming certainty, instead of maintaining an open mind that is open to skepticism and alternative theories. Im a big nerd, so being religious OR being an athiest seems like a boring existence, Im an agnostic athiest, I believe the "truth" will probably never be known, and that is a beautiful thing because it allows us to use out imagination. I like religion for its story telling i guess, but I look at it the same way I look at that show "Ancient Aliens": its just fun speculation based not on evidence but very human ideas.
Yes, i think The same, that was head hung in shame, because he couldn’t, or just decide to do nothing to help Jesus. So many sytuations, in our daily life, that we just hung our heads in shame. Jesus please, forgive us..
I also think that fellow was intended to be someone who understood who He was but refused to do anything but go along with the "cool kids" in the room. But he knew it was the Lord and was ashamed he wouldn't do anything to stand with him. And that describes pretty much all of us.
@@eddarby469 It wasn't because he wanted to go along to get along. It was because he was too weak to go against the crowd. He looked like a servant or someone lower in rank to the rest of them. If he had been wealthier or had more power, he might've been able to stand against them. And that is the reason why most people are willing to be sheep (incl. me).
I love how in this scene Jesus was knowing to trust the will of the father when he was surrounded by chaos and abandonment you can see how calm he is when he’s questioned and is silent
Think of all the righteous men that God chose to lead the Isrealites throughout the ages, and then here you have God in the flesh faced with this thing, seeing for himself how far his chosen people fell.
Same, but we all have. I don't think we intend to cast pearls before swine, but to see the hard hearted come to the truth. That's our heart. We think we can win the mockers over with our many words and skills in debate. However we end up finding out the hard way it doesn't work. This is, you know, an actor. In a movie. Based on the writings of men, that only used those writings to gain power and commit massive atrocities in their name.. So uh.. yeah, okay.
The first Christians did not believe that Jesus was God; in fact, they did not believe that he existed before his conception and they did not believe that he was born of a virgin. The first Christians believed that he was just a man who was destined to be a messiah in the way that David and all other previous kings of Israel were; they believed that he would restore the independence of Israel from the Romans, reestablish its status as a kingdom, and usher in an era in which all peoples would worship Yahweh, the god of Israel.
Each one of us is Herod when we keep asking Him to work miracles in our lives for us to believe in Him .Thank you Lord for my Cross, and thank you for sharing my burden.
it's very funny that most of the people says that Luca De Dominicis (the name of the italian actor who play Herod), was a great actor, because he's never be an actor, he's a founder of a videogame magazine in italy. He never played in another movie. Never anymore.
@@EQOAnostalgia youre actually wrong about that. Jesus lived this life as a man, so it was discernment. He put off his God abilities and put on corruptible flesh. If he had not lived this life as a man then he could not have been the sacrifice for mankind. The Bible says that he received his instructions from the Father, he did not act on his own accord.
An interesting subtext to this scene is that there are two sets of villains in the room: Herod and the pharisees. Neither likes the other. The pharisees are rightly disgusted by Herod's hedonism, while Herod sees through their pretensions.
This scene is just unbelievably good. So many amazing nuances, like the part where Herod asks Jesus “How about me. Will you work a little miracle for me?” And the woman quickly sits up, genuinely shocked and curious about what could possibly happen. Just an incredible combination of simplicity and high drama, well done!
I disagree, it was a caricature of what likely happened. It reminded me of Star Wars where the whole bar is looking at Luke. It just paints them as an entirely "other" so that we feel a more clear sense of right and wrong and who to apply it to. Mel Gibson makes very black and white movies, he rarely displays nuance.
There are parlor tricks in the bible. The fleece is bone dry with dew all around it, and the next day the fleece is soaked with water, with no dew anywhere. - Judges 6:37

This movie is awesome Mel did an awesome job. His direction shows me that he understood the Gospel and the meaning of the story. Can't wait for the resurrection
@@LukeLovesRose yes I have seen that before there are a few other similar ways too. God knows the intentions of our hearts and that we are confessing and praising his name.
Sometimes it's like this between a follower of Christ and a non-believer. I had someone recently mock my beliefs and ask me to provide proof that God exists. I asked them to specify the type of proof that would transform them from a non-believer to a believer. This caught them by surprise, because they did not desire to believe, but simply debate and defend their position. Someone who is not ready to believe will not no matter what you put before them. Jesus said "He who has an ear let him hear what the Spirit is saying." But many don't, and we have to be willing to move on rather than toiling in unproductive soil.
Well, Jesus didn't look like a God, he was just a human, maybe that's your answer. I doubt it if you recognized a God in him if you met him face to face.
I have finally learned the power of the right to remain silent! When no matter what you say it will be used against you! Wish that I would have understood this principal from a young age - it would have saved a lot of needless pain.
The guy who plays Herod is an Italian actor called Luca De Dominicis. I have a friend who speaks Hebrew, Latin and Aramaic, and he said that Luca’s pronunciations are pretty much perfect. His eye movements, his facial expressions. Absolutely wonderful - a brilliant performance.
The power of silence. Jesus completely disregards Herod by not answering his questions. “Answer me” Herod says. The Christ ignores Herod and without saying a single word, Christ says “I don’t answer to you”
I love how only one in the entire room... 0:48 ...knew He is King, and acknowledged Him by bowing. I sometimes feel when I go to adoration, and kneel on the floor, bowing down to my Lord and my God, that some think I'm a bit 'over the top'. He IS King of the universe, of this world, of Everything and we should enter His sanctuary on our knees, on our bellies! We are arrogant and prideful - 2 things that will send one to hell if they do not overcome them, by His grace and by His mercy. Learn to bow, and learn how to kneel and give the Creator and Son the honor They deserve. We Are Nothing compared to them. Nothing. And yet the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit work for our good, knowing we can't make it out of this world without Them. Without a word, that actor conveyed so much in just a few seconds. Best scene in the film, to me.
Totally agree with you. That was another amazingly brilliant scene. So much conveyed without a single word. The Centurion’s face, stopped dead in his tracks, not understanding who exactly was in front of him but knowing that he was standing in the presence of someone beyond his comprehension. And Jesus…you don’t even see his face in that film, it is never shown….but the power that this conveys hits hard right in my soul
I love this scene because it’s a message for us all. Jesus was so humble and silent that he would not look Herod in the eye because he knew he was swine. They spat on him and mocked him. It wasn't really a trial, more like an informal examination. The formal trial was before the Sanhedrin, but they lacked the authority to pass a death sentence on their own, so they went to Pilate, and he in turn sent Jesus to Herod hoping Herod would take the problem off his hands, but Herod sent him back mostly because he feared a backlash from the people if he was the one who had Jesus executed. None of them really cared whether Jesus was innocent or guilty, what to do with him was a political decision, and Pilate's waffling was because he needed the cooperation of the Temple priests to rule Judea but was also afraid of popular unrest if he killed a popular religious leader. Don't think any of them had the slightest qualms about executing a man they knew to be innocent.
