I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today is April 2, 2015. It is Maundy Thursday. John 13:1-17, 31-35 will most likely be read in a lot of churches today. And may we all remember Jesus' last commandment to Love One Another (John 13:34).

God lead me to John 13 out of 1 Cor 10:24, and then to your teaching. Which expanded my understanding of humbling oneself. Wow, I’ve been on the verge of having a melt down this week because of my idolatry, anger, pride and really just my circumstances...I forced myself to get into the word tonight and without a clear conscience. Which makes it hard to focus on the words, everything can get so blurry as a result of my willful-sin. I do pray everyday however, I’m in need of reinforcement. Would anyone be willing to lift me up? That I would not put to waist the wisdom God has granted me, and to have a servants heart no matter my circumstances. A kind loving heart. Please. There is a heart issue going on here. I recognize my true condition, that I can do nothing apart from the Holy Spirit. Problem is, my flesh keeps getting in the way!

Thank you for your comment Stephen. My heart goes out to you during this time of struggle. Our hearts are corrupt and will generally lead us away from God. We overcome our sin when the Word of God dominates our thinking and when our decisions daily conform to His will. David wrote, “How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word. With all my heart I have sought You; do not let me wander from Your commandments. Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You.” (Psa 119:9-11) Though you will continue to struggle with sin all your life, plunge yourself into learning God’s Word. Set your mind upon the Lord morning, afternoon, and evening (Psalm 1, Col. 3:1-2). The reason for his is that we cannot live what we do not know. Learning God’s Word necessarily precedes living God’s will. And when you’ve grown spiritually, and your life is where God wants, He will open a door for ministry. www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-rdyak-93da40 “Dear Father, I pray for Stephen, that You will enlighten him to know Your Word and strengthen him to do your will. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
