Worth noting that the minimo is also pressure regulated so it will work much better in cold, at altitude and when your canister isn’t full than the flash will. It may take slightly longer to boil but thanks to it being regulated you will be using less fuel overall over the course of your trip. The flash, being unregulated struggles with a canister below even half full, especially in the cold. Below freezing and with a half full tank I’ve had boil times of *gasp* almost 3 minutes. At the end of the day the minimo is more versatile and more fuel efficient and for that reason is in my opinion the clear winner. You can wait that extra 25 seconds for coffee if it means it will be more efficient, dependable and ultimately you can carry less fuel on those week long backcountry trips. Also just going to mention to leave the lid on the entire time while heating your water and it will cut down your boil times pretty significantly.

It really comes down to whether you want to cook or boil water.

I much prefer the Minimo- purely because of the metal pot grab handle. Feels much more secure and safe than the other soft jetboil cup handles.

I bought the Flash because of the fast boiling times. I don't cook and only heat water for coffee and dehydrated meals. The minimo also is USD $50 more and designed for wilderness gourmets.

Does the jet boil 2 obviate all the complaints about the on/off of the jet boil, making the jet boil 2 the best of of the lot? I mostly just want to boil water, but I don’t want my thing to stop working just because the tank is half empty. Heating up a can of soup would also be nice, but I’m not planning to be gourmet cooking.

I say and go buy the Minimo once you have the stove with the regulator you can always buy the cup sizes :)

But will the jet boil boil in 100 seconds on the Mimo base?
@haluter

Why did you remove the Minimo's lid before it started boiling? That would substantially increase the time to boil the water.

very valid point. I couldn't see through the lid to determine if it was boiling yet.

Isn’t the whole point of the minimo the simmer control?? Obviously I would expect the flash to boil faster.

> In all tests that we have conducted with the two comparative products that we reviewed (Jetboil FLASH / MSR Windburner / MSR REACTOR) the slowest to boil (same amount of water) was the Jetboil Flash. We prefer the MSR models which can easily be lit with a match/cigarette lighter, because the problem we have found was with the Jetboil's piezo lighter is also NOT consistent, they break, and they also don't last for ever. You will notice that Jetboil DON'T sell just the Ignitor/Pot Support as an accessory/replacement part, at least nowhere that we have found. Both the MSR Windburner/Reactor wins hands down in this race of the highest standards for: quality, longevity, ease-of-use, weight, and robustness for backpacking/rafting trips in the wilderness with groups.

I hade the same problem. I was in the middle of the Jetboil vs MSR battle. then I bought them both. Jetboil Flash and also windburner. and unlike you. I can definitely sure that Jetboil does the job better. It has a better build in quality and designed better. I haven't tested them in cold weather which I think windburner can be better because of its regulator. but anyway I give a thumbs up to Jetboil.

I have a flash 2.0 and it has simmer control works great with my skillet. Are the burners compatible? I see the minimo tapers in. Great cosys
@TexasHogHunters
@TexasHogHunters 3 года назад
Yes they are. I should have included that in the video. you can use the same burner for both cups, because of the size. but of course one has a regulator and the other doesn't.

Oh no I just wasted my money on the minimo and waisted an extra 90 seconds of my life waiting for water too boil...
@TexasHogHunters
@TexasHogHunters 3 года назад
if water boiling is the objective, why waste an extra 90 seconds of fuel?
@commandingofficer4693
@commandingofficer4693 3 года назад
@@TexasHogHunters I think the minimo is more fuel efficient, meaning that in the long run, you ‘waste’ less fuel using the minimo to boil the same amount of water than with the flash.

Boiling water in the shortest time is hardly the greatest feature of a gas stove. Cooking ability is more important, such as length of burn and efficiency and ability to simmer.
@jazjac17

For those people who thumbs down or complain about the content, shame on you. Buy what the fuck you want. This was a comparison between the 2 with well brought out differences between the models. If you want a coffee in 90 secs flash it up, if u want a bit more versatility, minimo it up. But keep your personal choice to your god damn self.Well done Beau.
@darrenboorman4365
@darrenboorman4365 4 года назад
This seems like a pointless comparison. We all know Flash is 100 seconds and Minimo is 2-3 minutes. It would be great to see some videos on cooking with Minimo which is what it was designed for. Flash is purely for speed and water only as it has no regulator.
@TexasHogHunters
@TexasHogHunters 3 года назад
True. They are used for different purposes. But do we all know that? I don't do well with absolutes, so I just made a video to show the difference in boiling times.

Hey man, will the Flash cup fit on the burner from the mini? and viceversa?
@TexasHogHunters
@TexasHogHunters 5 лет назад
I LOVE this question. Unfortunately, no. The minimo has a wider base. HOWEVER, JetBoil makes a MicroMo that has the same ability to simmer as the MiniMo and the width of the base is the same. Here is a more in-depth review of the Flash versus the MicroMo: www.wildsnow.com/19860/jetboil-micromo-backcountry-stove-review/

@@TexasHogHunters Anyone reading this - just to let you all know that Beau's answer is totally wrong. The Minimo has EXACTLY the same burner as the Micromo and its exactly the same width and fit as all the other Jetboil burners. I wanted a Micromo but they were so expensive it worked out cheaper to buy the Minimo and a Jetboil zip for the bot and swap the bits over. Proof if you look at the compatibility of the spare pot you can buy: jetboil.johnsonoutdoors.com/cookware/spare-cups/1l-tall-spare-cup "Our FluxRing 1 Liter Tall Cup is compatible with the MicroMo, MiniMo, Zip and Flash systems as well as the Luna Burner"

yes,because it disperses outside and doesnt build up,causing you to pass out and die. Not to mention the flame would eat up oxygen and produce co2 and co in an enclosed space.
