PLAJ’s Luke Grant dove into the McDonald tape and explains why he has the tools to be a special pass rusher, in Robert Saleh’s scheme #Jets #NFLDraft #WillMcDonald
@@PlayLikeAJet Exactly, love the draft and the entire proces around. But hate nothing more than people pretending a pick is the worst in the history of the NFL if it's not the exact player they want. Everyone pretending to be the best scout the world has ever seen while sitting at home
@@bxbigshot1809 had a great game against TCU, who will have plenty of lineman the next two years (including Avila this year). Oklahoma (1st Rd pick in Harrison. Okl state. Not an issue for me
On 3rd down, you need to be able to rush the passer... I LOVE this move !!!! LOVE IT! Michael Clemons, Jermaine Johnson, and now McDonald.... plus Bryce Huff is legitimately the most underrated pass rusher in the entire NFL.
There is no one on the Jets that has his bend coming around the edge. Sometimes that's the difference between a sack and just a QB pressure. I liked the pick. You can't have enough good pass rushers on the team
It's abundantly obvious what the jets are aiming to do. Power on the inside and lightning speed on the outside what a combo. A fresh never ending flow of outside pass rushers with fresh legs. This is gonna save us a huge amount of money in the long run this move. Players who can rush from the outside could wind up costing you 9 digits. Again 9 digits. This could wind up being a grand slam and make him look like the smartest g m in the business if this hits.
@Play Like A Jet I agree. That's also exactly what happened. Jermaine johnson was decent but he wasn't a world beater his rookie season last year either. This is more motivation for him as well.
Jermaine Johnson is a first two down linemen. Actually underrated as an edge setting run stopper. But this guy is a weapon. He’ll come in with Huff and be an Ears Back Pack. Huff McDonald, with Williams and JFM inside. MIGHT HE EVEN COME IN AS A BLITZING LB in a “send five” scenario…? With his athletic skills, could he cover TEs?
@@deanbritton4696 Here's the thing, the Jets are using a premium pick on a 3rd down specialist, I don't think, so they have to believe he can cover and stand up against the run. They have something up their sleeve in how they're planning to use him.
Love the pick, you can never have enough speedy pass rushers in the NFL and this dude is a really good one. Keeps the d line fresh. Constantly attacking all game long. Great stuff.
I like the pick all the OT where off the board and then it would of been next best available player on our board. We should not judge any rookie till they play cause for we know he could be the best edge in the draft
On the phone call with Saleh to McDonald after the pick Saleh said to him get ready to play WIDE 9...This kid will be awesome coming off the edge and stop playing him in the 4i...I'm excited...Jet fan 4 life!!!
I like this pick just from a character standpoint, he was at Iowa 5 years, makes me hopeful that he won't have any character issues like Mims and moore. With time i think he can be a very lovable "veteran" type player.
I am excited to see this dude play for The JETS! Allen, Jones, Tua and even Mahomes is probably going to say "Oh crap" when they see this guys athleticism. Go JETS!
Solid pick lot of fans said should’ve taken the WR but wmac is gonna get defense off the field faster so offense can get ball back pretty much the same result as as having a wr extend a drive let’s not forget which side of the ball got us here I know us fans are all for this win or die this season but JD can’t be still have a few picks to find O line help plus there’s always a diamond or two in UFA and I think jets will might trade up for a two or three cuz the percentage of a 2nd or 3rd making an impact right away has got to be light years better than what we have left after pick 43
Jets fans are amazing. Joe Douglas goes Sauce and everyone shits themselves. Then he’s DROY and Joe is a genius. Great GMs don’t always make consensus picks.
Alot better after sleeping on it. Overall surprised JSN was available but not a miss imo. Chicago taking Darnell Wright surprised me a lot more tbh. Will McDonald is a physical freak and I'm very excited about what we're building on the edges, but I also think we could've traded down and got him still. My one concern with JD is his apparent unwillingness to trade down. 5/5 athlete, 4/5 pick.
I DO think they wanted to trade back 10 spots and pick this guy at 25 for value. But other GMs view this as a flat draft - you could see that folks were trading back for less than book value. So Joe misprices the trade down. But do I believe he drafted the wrong player? Not after last year - I’m not that arrogant.
Utilized incorrectly purely from the stand point of his own individual stat potential, but Iowa state has had the best defense in the Big 12 for 3-4 seasons. The 3-3-5 Coach Heacock implemented changed big 12 football and college football in general and what it relies on is being able to actively rush the quarterback with 3 guys. Will also holds the Big 12 career record for sacks so they system still allows individuals to create lots of sacks.
I’m clearly not breaking down Iowa state’s 3-3 defense here haha. Asking a 235 pound guy to line up at a 4i for almost 50% of his snaps isn’t best for Will McDonald and that’s all I care about
I told people this dude is a beast. He bends like Gumby and is quick af. Ans has moves. He was misused a ton. He'll shine in the right spot. I think he's the best pass rusher in the draft
Reminds me of John Abraham from the Herm Edwards Jets. Chris Simms compared him to Leonard Floyd. But then again,CS liked Zach Wilson Hope he is right this time
This is going to be the puzzle in 2023. I think Clemons will be used inside at times in passing situations. The Jets staff want to be 2 deep across the line. Now they have got that. Plus, Lawson and Huff are likely not here in 2024
@@el34glo59 they did they could have got him at 15 and jets would have gotten who we wanted at 13... That's why I said Packers did us bad with that pick swap
Reminds me of Chandler Jones coming out. Like Jones McDonald is a freak athlete who shot up draft boards after his phenomenal workouts. We ended up with a bust and NE picked a hall of famer. Good thing he left NE because he’s still causing havoc 10 years later.
