she played a small venue here in chicago back in 2003, in a semi-private event...there were probably about 25 of us there, and nobody except me knew who she was. not many people were actually paying her much attention...i think they didn't realize she used to be a huge star in the 1990s. after her set, i got to sit at a table with her, just the two of us, and we had a friendly chat. she's a very sweet, soft-spoken woman who's very real and down to earth. and she has the most beautiful smile. she signed a business card which i borrowed from someone, because i didn't own any business cards. it says: "dear Jim, thank you for the coffee and the lovely conversation. you're a true gentleman and a wonderful listener. your friend, Jewel K." it looks nice in its little frame by the front door. she's such a sweetheart. i love her.
Dude that's awesome. I've seen her in Brawley California twice before. But never got to actuator down and have a chat. Your one lucky guy. Her music always has a story to tell.
It beautifully captures that weird, empty, depressed feeling that comes after a crushing breakup. Life goes on, but there's kind of a gray film over everything, and all the things that used to be normal feel off somehow. And paired with that gentle but relentless ostinato in the guitar, endlessly moving forward (despite the vocal line's resistance), until that one moment of almost-recognition of what's happened ("hearts are broken every day")? Perfection.
but i dont think this song was meant to just be a breakup song...I think it was also meant to be romantic, positive, and convey the positive aspects of a relationship
So true... I've never felt the same since my only traumatic breakup. Life has never been the same I have moved on but my heart aches, and I've never been able to reproduce the happiness that I had when I was living in existential Bliss with someone that I had so much promise with. It only feels like failure. Which means I guess it was love
What's her talent you are referring to? Singing? There's so many other good singers, and If you wanted to make each and every one of them popular, then there would be a problem.
Im referring to the fact that she was on the radio daily when I was a teenager. She has multiple grammys. I think she was well recognized. Don't disrespect a 90s icon.
I don’t like when she riffs off her perfect melodies, but it’s only because I think about how people who haven’t heard the album version don’t get that perfection. She’s incredible, and that voice. 😍
Exactly... There are singers. There are painters. And they are beautiful and talented in their own way... But then you have artist.. jewel is an artist.. nobody sounds like her, nobody has what she has. Its hers and its special.. and there arent but a small handful of people that can claim that level of beauty
search Kim So Hyang, Park Ki Young, Ali, are koren singers, They are like Jewel, but unknown to the vast majority of the public, and they are excellent singers, you just have to dig through so much garbage and you will find wonders, take a look and tell me how it went
they can still sing. 3 examples. florence. gaga. la havas. there is more talent rn than ppl think. popular music is just bad overall ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UtnxsIBVm5s.html&ab_channel=FlorenceMachineVEVO florence on snl ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ig5dfFZBp5g.html&ab_channel=RevinQx gaga on japan tv ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XwHMAomSaEA.html&ab_channel=LianneLaHavas lianne tour bus
@@yanki198 Thanks I checked them out (still listening as I type) and they are great singers but Jewel has a super magic...holy sheep! Park Kiyoung! Yeah you right on that!
It's a person bargaining for and denying their recent breakup by changing their annoying habits in hopes their ex will notice how much better they are now and see that they were meant for each other
I used to play my guitar around 95 while in Colorado Springs. My daughter Iris was around 9 or 10 yrs old, would sing this beautifully. It’s actually 3:00 AM in south Texas, I’m sitting here playing this song. Text my daughter who is now 30, and on her way to Florida on a beautiful night. I said remember we used to do this song? She texted yes dad. Can’t wait until she returns and we do it, do it on Facebook this time!
This girl is a genius she's straight up a great story teller I love her music so much I listen it almost everyday I just she really was meant for me sucha beautiful song I loved it most when she sang it on late night with David Letterman she sang the sultry sexy version and JEWEL was smokin like always sucha beautiful young lady
I'm totally speechless 😶!!! AND it's absolutely how amazingly amazing she is!! I been playing live since 86. I was 13. Now I'm an old goat 🐐 at 49 and, she just gives me so much inspiration to get out there. Saw her last night and it was an amazing performance at burgettstown,PA.
This is Jewel at her best. Just her voice and her acoustic. That's all she needs to make amazing music. Her best work was her early work, before she went full pop on some of her later stuff. Pieces of You was a phenomenal album. None of her later work can top that debut album. Spirit is a close second though. Those two albums were a huge part of my 90s and early 2000s. And I still spin them today.
Damnnn!!! Jewel.. ❤ you always. I've always had respect for musicians. I Grew up in 90s, but I've never heard this version! This is insanely On Fucking POINT! not a euphemism.. Damn Jewel, you are badass..

I was like 9 when I first heard this song. I loved it, even though I didn't really comprehend the lyrics. As I got older and could appreciate the lyrics, I loved it even more.
Perfection in artistry. I could honestly fall in love with her oh, and tell her how beautiful her Perfection is. Artistic beauty is beauty. Beauty is artistic
Truly... shes been my dream since the mid 90s. I'd listen to her tell me about anything. I'd ask her about her trip to the grocery store just to hear her voice.
