Jeweled Lacerta Handling! | are these lizards as skittish as people say they are?

They are active during the day, but it really depends on their personality and how tame they are. Saphira, my female jeweled lacerta, is much more tame and she spends most her time out and about, but my male jeweled lacerta, Barnaby, spends a lot of time in his burrow.

In that situation I’d spend time nearby the enclosure, just to get her used to my presence. Then if I noticed after some days she seemed more comfortable with me around, I’d try getting closer. Hopefully after trying that I could get close enough to try tweezer feeding her some insects. Unfortunately it can take a lot of time and patience, but it can pay off! Hopefully what I said is useful to you, good luck! Also, moving slowly is always helpful. Sometimes with my more skittish animals I have to move so incredibly slow to prevent them from running/jumping away. You may already be aware of that but I wanted to say it just in case

@@KkCreatures thanks for the fast reply and the information 🙃 I will take some time to gain her trust. Right now when i go to her she hisses and runs in her home. Do they bite hard? I really want to handle her, thanks in advance ✌

@@rogueplanet13 no problem! It really depends on the lizards but the females’ bite is definitely less bad than the males’. My female lacerta has never drawn blood when she’s accidentally nipped me during feeding, but if she bit me intentionally I’m sure she could draw blood
