A video made in responce to a few comments about how I have my tools laid out and the design of my work bench.
It always interesting how other jewellers work around the world. This is how I do it. Its common to have a set up like this in London UK.
We all work a little differently. This set up seems to really suit working at home. I have very few tools and nothing high tech at all but am still able to make almost anything I desire.
ttps://ru-vid.com....
Check out the new Diamond Mounter side channel!
Its called 'Diamond Mounter Clips'
Its compiled of short clips taken from previous videos to
highlight useful techniques and information I was teaching.
No intros, no outros just straight to the essence of what
was useful in the video!
Please check it out and click like then subscribe!
Calling for new patrons!
With patrons support I will be able to offer far more information than I am currently able to.
With nearly 25 years of knowledge gained in the jewellery trade working with some of the best diamond mounters in the UK I can train practitioners of jewellery making, up to and far beyond the skill level usually found in High Street jewellers workshops.
Become a classic patron and you will not only be able to view part 2 of full instructional guides but also be thanked personally on the next youtube upload! You will also have access to all future uploads 2 weeks before they go live on youtube.
Official patrons have all the benefits of a classic patron but also gain access to regular exclusive content. Behind the scenes, personal jewellery projects Im working on, I share ideas for future videos, photos and stories from throughout my career as a professional jeweller.
Also Official patrons are welcome to suggest ideas for future videos and contact me anytime if they need advice for their own jewellery making endeavors.
Classic patronage is just £5 a month and to become an Official patron costs only £10 a month making Diamond Mounter patronage by far the best value way to gain access to online jewellery making courses.
As the number of full instructional guides continues to grow the value will be even more considerable.
www.patreon.co...
There is now an entry level tier which costs just £1 a month.
Its named the Supporter tier which allows you to support the channel with out any substantial financial obligation. I will thank you personally on the next Diamond Mounter video uploaded.
My ambition is to share what I have learned throughout my career to as many people as possible.
My vehicle to do this is the Diamond Mounter RU-vid channel.
If you appreciate the video content and find the information useful then why not become a patron and support its growth!

I had an apprenticeship in Germany, we had bench skins. Then I came to the US and nobody knew what it is. Better choice.

Super helpful, exactly what I needed to wrap my head around setting my bench up in a really good way. Top tips: micromotor, lamp position, hangers for pliers, saw, etc, bench block to left (for righties).

I got used to this setup/bench shape then moved to New York where things are very different. I personally prefer the London way but I make it work

Thanks very much , one thing that’s irritating me is not a light because I can fix a flash light and get that intensity of the brightness. I do not want when I am sawing my table starts to shake , I like solid and heavy and tuff . So any vibrations should be stopped . Thanks

There you are!!!! Love it! You are SOOO correct about shaft motors, Why the hell do they still sell these monsters? I finally have a micro motor, only use my flexi for hammer hand-piece, and even though I have the Porsche of those (Badeco), I still would rather have a Graver Max, all day!

sometimes dentists sell their old controllers on Ebay,( if they have been corrupted by a dental industry salesman) , just buy a Marathon type headpiece, (you may have to change the plug set shape, but they are all three pins, just soem round, some flat), these are upwards of 500 pound controllers, and top end, and can be had very cheaply...

Nice setup! Can you share the specs of your micromotor? Brand, Speed and torque? I am starting out and really leaning towards a micromotor instead of flexshaft, but not sure if it can handle all the drilling and grinding needed. Since you use it and don’t have a flex shaft I am assuming this can do it all. Thanks!
@DiamondMounter
@DiamondMounter 2 года назад
I bought a micromotor for the first time here in Japan and they are ssso much better than a flex shaft drive pendant motor. Theyre cheaper, quieter, smoother, lighter and can also spin both ways, are speed adjustable and mine even has cruise control! I will never go back to a crappy old shaft drive
@engnardine
@engnardine 2 года назад
@@DiamondMounter thank you ! do you know the speed and the torque for the one you use ? Just for me to note that these specs can do the job and not invest in something less.
@DiamondMounter
@DiamondMounter 2 года назад
@@engnardine I dont know but basically I could only buy the cheapest one when I arrived in Japan. I imagine its the least powerful available but it works fine. Perhaps a little more torque would be useful

How high is your bench please? When I measured the ideal height for me (chest height at the sitting position) it came up to around 107cm. This seems quite higher than market standard (ranging from 80 to 95cm in the UK) and not available unless I custom order. I’m not even that tall I’m (166cm). Any tips on that would be highly appreciated as I developed a painful pinched nerve syndrome in the neck because of slouching which has put me off making anything for months now.

Ouch sorry to hear that. Yes I recommend sitting up straight! My bench is 92cm and my chair is 32cm high but just raise your bench or lower your chair to waht ever suits you
