The close-up images were taken by placing flat slabs of cut rocks on a wet scanner surface and taking a high-resolution scan. The other photos are of various pieces that I cut and polished from rocks found in the Yellowstone or its tributaries in the Beartooth Mountains. There is also a set of natural rocks we have collected (the credit card blank is for size reference), and still another set of rocks that are wet in the rain. I hope you enjoy!

🐞I really like the way you finish your specimens. They look natural not tumbled to death. Thanks. 🐞

Hey, thanks! I do try to leave the natural as much as possible, only flattening and polishing a face, or maybe cutting it, but leaving the rest natural. WAY TOO MANY tumblers going out there!

🐞I agree. Maybe a preliminary tumble then mineral oil bath and a wipe down works best for me. Thanks. 🐞

Ive been watching 3 rockhounders that purge the Yellowstone area. You, in just this one video have offered more diversity and delight than they have all combined... 😁🤗😄

Well thanks so much, I appreciate that you n oticed. We do have a LOT of Yellowstone material, since we lived in Billings for a long time and still visit friends and family there. The Yellowstone River cuts through an amazing span of geological history, involving not only present mountains being eroded into it, but also it cuts through many ancient gravels from other periods: gravels left by rivers running in completely different directions from mountain ranges that don't exist anymore...reworking an endless mix of awesome variety.

You know, I made this video before I knew how to add in text. I think you are right - a video like this with the names (though most might remain unnamed since I don't know what they are) would be more educational.
