Let’s talk baby names! Baby Firefly’s arrival is getting closer and closer so James have been on my mind. Having lived with an Anglosized version of Devora for almost 66 years now, I’ve thought about what being a bee means. They are hard workers for the good of the community. They will give their lives to save their home and family. They spend their lives making honey and honeycomb; lots of scriptures about that. And without these pollinators we wouldn’t have most of the fruits and vegetables that not only sustain us, but enrich our lives. They fly, drink from flowers, and are beautiful! I think it’s a wonderful name!

Yonasan is "HaShem gives" and Hillel means "praise ". We chose these names also because my husband is a Kohein and so is Yonasan (I always preferred the Ashkenazi pronunciation). Bees are highly intelligent, very hard workers and very community minded. They say if we lose our bees all of us will starve. They are tiny but mighty. My sons have 2 middle names each. One of my oldest son’s middle names is Keegan, it means “little fiery one”. He’s a red head who kicked all the time & put me into early labor at 26 weeks! Thankfully I had him at 35 weeks after LOTS of bed rest & medical intervention. He ended up having a roommate when he moved to Chicago with his job that’s named Eitan. He’s the most observant “non observant” Jew that I have ever met! He was my son’s roommate because he said that his Mom was trying to find him a wife & he didn’t want to marry someone who hadn’t had their own life first. He dating (going out to dinner mainly) an observant woman now & he’s discussing marriage.

It’s cool that Maya is a Jewish name too! I’ve always known it to be Indian in origin(my heritage), where it means illusion. Totally sending vibes for a safe delivery and a speedy recovery!

I love this! Praying for you and baby. I’m pregnant with baby number 3, due in December. Back in December, 2021 I was praying to God about if I would ever have another baby. I was having desires for a VBA2C, not so much baby fever. He clearly answered with me that if I released my fear and control and had faith in him I would. So, while in the moment of hearing his voice I asked about possible name recommendations and He sent me to the book of Job (a book I haven’t read before), straight to the name Keziah. I instantly loved it. It has a unisex sound to my husband and I, means whole or complete, is the second daughter born to Job, supposedly after healing, and starts with a K (my sisters and I all begin with K). I have been going through major healing from my two c-sections and the mental trauma connected to them, so this is very fitting. My husband still wasn’t agreeing to having another child. We know exactly when I ovulate, so our other children were planned. Towards the end of April I finally fully gave my reproduction cycle to God and prayed that if he had a purpose for a child to help this world and be a deciple of Jesus that my body was his, despite my fear of more birth trauma. Shortly after we learned that I was already pregnant. It was totally a God thing because I ovulated the day after the last day of my period, which has never happened in the almost decade I have tracked my cycle and it was the only day during my cycle we did anything. So, God knew I was going to relinquish my control before I ever did. We are trying to figure out an “A” name. I prefer not finding out the gender until baby is born but I’m struggling bonding with this baby and still haven’t felt that spark of a soul (I felt that literally at the moment of conception with both my boys). So, we are considering learning the gender if we cannot decide on a unisex first name.

Chana, I love your channel! Your list of names is beautiful, just a couple of comments: Etai is still commonly given in Israel. We have a grandson named Yedidya who just turned 18 yesterday! I guess it depends on what circles your family and friends are in. Ayala appears in sefer Breishit, chapter 49, in Yakov's blessing to Naftali (but not as a name...). Our second daughter is named Ayala, but that's also a translation of my husband's grandmother's Yiddish name Hinde which means gazelle, as you mentioned. Our Ayala is an amazing young woman, and anyone would be blessed to have such a daughter! May your baby be born be'sha'a tova umutzlachat and may you have much joy and nachat from all of your children!

I named my 2 boys Luke and David. With both of them, I had names picked out pre birth, but they were not those names once I met them face to face. ❤❤ My grandmother had 6 children and you could really get her going asking if the mother or father should be the one to make a final decision on a baby name. “I carried them, I gave birth to them, it’s mainly the mother who cares for them, she gets to pick the name!” Apparently there had been a disagreement between her and my grandfather regarding this topic, lol.

I had a list of baby names for boys & girls. Though I had amniocentesis twice during my pregnancy, I refused to learn the sex of the baby. I narrowed the list from a dozen of each, to two each by the time I gave birth: Nathan Alexander & Kevin Michael Meghan Eileen & Kaitlin Rose Upon seeing her, I knew she was a Meghan! It was 1985, I had read "The Thorn Birds" and fell in love with the name. Sorry, to say, a lot of people read the book and the name exploded. It became very popular. It wasn't too bad until high school. She was one of eleven flutist in the marching band, FIVE named Megan!! She always jokes that when she's in a nursing home, they'll call out "Megan" and a bunch of old ladies will answer. I gave her the Irish spelling with the "H" but that elicited another problem... she could never find any of those novelties with her name on them! Your baby will be blessed whichever name you choose. God, bless.

I gave all my children names with meanings: Anthony Matthew = Beyond praise, the gift of God, Bethany Nicole = The house of the Lord, the people's victory and Skyler Tristian = Smart, bold (and he lives up to it). Kiah was the name a Jewish man who was a psychologist in a nearby town.

I remember those days to choose names. We have a girl, already had a boy. I want Tamar, we choose one of the names on your list (37 years before now😂), for her dad a joy (pond intended) for me …wanted Tamar, I thought the next one. Had 3 more boys and the fabric is permanently closed😂. Have no more use for the name, you could add to your list if you want. All my love❤️

I did the same thing when I had my daughter Trinda Anne need a biblical name to get baptized, I named her the 3rd day after she was born, my family kept sending me names to choose from. So then my Uncle Bill and Aunt Nan sent their list and Trinda was on it I looked at her and it was perfect, I like odd names, but Trinda my uncles grandmothers name in Ireland and my grandmother was Anna didn’t go made it Anne. Then my daughter had a girl and she combined Trinda and Helene and we got our Trilene the first three letter lie Tra or tre. . It also was perfect for her. We like different names what can I say. Good luck and hoping for a short labor, my daughter weighted less than 100 lbs. and I’d 5’1” and had an 8 lb 7 oz baby naturally. He doctors wanted to induce but my Baba said when the apple is ripe it will fall from the tree. Lol

My name is Mya. German is our first language, and my holocaust survivor grandmother Elfriede chose the name. My mother liked Heather, but due to my grandmother’s very strong accent, it would come out of her mouth sounding like Heifer, so she wasn’t very enthused by that name. I can tell you that I am constantly being complimented on my name, I have zero recollection of teasing or anything from it. Can’t wait to see your new kiddo soon! Praying for a smooth delivery, healthy mom, and baby!

Do you know that humankind is so dependent on bees that if all bees are exterminated or die out, humankind could only last a maximum of three years before starving to death!!

When I was expecting, I felt like I wasn't naming my son, but more like I was figuring out what his name already was. I'm not sure if that makes sense. So we had our short list like you do and when he was born, he definitely looked like an Aaron. And just like Moses' brother, he is a talker! He's 24 and not afraid to say what he thinks. Ever.

My method of naming my children was pick a name I liked. I had my daughter named, called her such constantly, and my grandfather was crying, so my daughter wasn’t given his wife’s name, but that of my father’s grandmother. Although children are living souls from conception, and deserve a name, calling the baby by name and then changing it caused a problem. My little son kept looking in all the cupboards in my hospital room, trying to find his other baby sister. My daughter also changed her second baby’s name after birth, to avoid the same name in the family.

Oh I love hearing about names...my dream job would be being a name consultant. I love all your names. You have truly put a lot of thought into it. My grandmother was named Naomi Rebecca and I considered those names for my daughter but went with another family name, Amelia. Back then it was not popular like it is now. My oldest son is Benjamin. I have always liked that name and it was my great grandfather's name. We shortened it to Ben so that would not work for you!! Interesting that you do not use nick names as we all have a nickname in my family. My name is Arlene and my nick name is Nene,. My sisters could not say my whole name and I rather like my nick name better than my name!! I love all the names you are thinking of and I am sure that you will know what his or her name is once you hold them in your arms!!

The choice was simple for us. One child. Ashkenazi tradition so the names were in memory of deceased relatives. If it was a boy -- Jacob for my husband's late father. If a girl, Sarah for his late grandmother. We went back and forth because I loved the name Tovah. We went with sarah. I like all the names you're considering. I think Hebrew names are pretty/poetic/symbolically meaningful. In any case you'll decide what name fits when they make their debut. As to the sponsor of the video -- I've been using native products for several years mainly because I don't want the chemicals that are absorbed. I have sampled many fragrances and they seem to always come up with new ones. Fresh, clean, pleasant, creative. Great customer service, too. Looking forward to your family's big event. Cheers, Chana!

One of the traditions I've learned is that the husband names the first child of each gender for his deceased relatives, the wife gets to name the second child of each gender, unless there is a closer-degree relative who has passed before the baby is born and therefore takes precedence ahead of that traditional lineup (e.g., wife's father passed, husband's father is alive: first son is named after the wife's father; husband's father passes between the birth of the first and second sons: second son is named for the husband's father)
