I àm a 70 year old Christian male that appreciates this series much, Not just from the historical aspects but the evolution of the Spiritual growth of humanity, not to forget my personal walk you connected a lot of concepts. I have studied on my own many years. Thank you
Hi @DavidSolomononline, I just discovered and listened to your lectures. I am from a background where I do not know much about the Jewish history, but have been reading the Holy Bible starting from the Old Testament. Your clear explanations have been extremely helpful to me because they gave me the historic background to understand some of the books I have been reading. Honestly reading the Holy Bible is easy, but understand it is not at all. So, thank you so much, and I hope I can find more of these videos from you. God Bless!
This lecture was very useful and I can really engage with your teaching style. The passion is palpable. I arrived here from a more general overview lecture and it looks like I'm going to be watching more and more specific studies of yours. Very happy I've discovered your teaching. Please continue, we are listening.
Hi Josh, thanks so much for letting us know. We are glad you enjoyed this talk and hope there are others that you find interesting too! Regards, Marjorie Solomon
"Ariel Sharon on crack" this brother is golden. "Trump on steroids" that's priceless! 😂🤣He had me laughing, alot! 🙏 ❤️ And I learned some really good stuff!
59:24 Very unfortunate comment on a very serious and sensitive topic, the israelo-plestinian problem. I was already stunned at your comment about Greeks (who probably invented Ethics) not being able to distinguish right from wrong. Very one sided ignotant view.
I was horrified by that commment, Joao. Especially how nonchalantly it was said. The most disturbing was when he said basically they can discuss that further when they aren't on camera.
Hi David, First of, thank you very very much for this... Very interesting and flooded with good information... Interesting question. Am I assuming correctly that the Sadducees were fully part of and bringing sacrifices to Bayit Sheni ? Thank You.. Amazing...
Hello Avrohom, we're glad you enjoyed the lecture. Re your question: yes, the Sadducees were priests so therefore brought most of the sacrifices to Bayit Sheni. Many thanks, Marjorie Solomon :)
Hello! I am very interesed in hebrew history. I'm writting you from Spain . I have a cuestion and I can not find the answer anywere: whici is the year of Adonijah's death ( son of David )? Thank you very much for your time!!!!!
From america and not orthodox.secular, so I am looking forward to this.i was raised Roman catholic and am not religious in any real sense. I am not educated on this subject silly enough
@@DavidSolomononline I did. I am on part 3 now. I'm pretty jaded generally speaking, so I am appreciating the perspective that I am part of something I didnt quite get. I still dont, but yall helping meningitis the path. It is much appreciated. So thank you very much.
@@xsqrewfacex It's our pleasure. Jewish History can fascinate, inspire and centre - at least it does for me :) Enjoy the rest of the journey, Marjorie
I like David Solomom and appreciate his openness and realistic teaching of Jewish history. Having said that, his analogy ( 58:50 ) where he insinuates that the State of Israel forcing Palestinians in the West Bank to convert to Judaism may be a good idea is horrifying.
Whilst I enjoyed your presentation and much of my interest was focused on the ancient Middle East, and certainly after watching this I have even more questions allow me to give a constructive criticism as I think you focus and waste time too much on periods and time frames that we already have maths for, especially in the 6th chapter. Maybe because I'm not Jewish and there is many aspects I don't feel passionate about, I think it's just confusing. Furthermore if you frame the Maccabee Republic as an independent State and a Roman period as separate it's also misleading as it seems to me Rome was using Judea as a proxy against the Seleucid Empire and it's support wouldn't have come for free as this divide and conquer strategy would be repeated by many other empires and subjects through history.
A really excellent narration totally enjoyable however have a few differences of opinion especially about EZRAS narration implying Jews are uniquely unique suggesting a racial superiority which isn’t acceptable,
It seems like the assumption is that the "Old City" like it is today, built by Suleiman and the Ottomans, was rebuilt almost exactly the same way as it was during the 2nd Temple period..?🤔 I'm not so sure about that. There is credible evidence that the city was so completely destroyed in 70 AD and even more so again by Hadrian after the Bar Kokhba revolt, that it was completely unrecognisable as a city, fulfilling the prophecy that "not one stone will be left on another". And seeing as Jews were then banned from the city for about 500 years after that, I highly doubt that any of the rebuilding that took place was based on what existed before 70 AD.
Hello, @marcokite is correct. This historical period pre-dates the time of Jesus. The Jewish world does not ignore Jesus, and it is very much aware of the impact of Christianity on Jewish life and experience for the past millennia. However, as an individual, Jesus is not a significant figure in Jewish history. Regards, Marjorie Solomon
you missed a bit. you missed the first 8,000 years of history of the people of Judea; the most remarkable and significant part of their history - their building possibly the world's first walled city, Jericho. And you missed out the second most significant part - the period between 1000BC and 700BC when Israel was a loose-knit bunch of nomadic warrior tribes, whilst the peoples of Judea were peaceful farmers. That makes your lectures decidedly third-rate. Correction - 4th-rate, because you then say you are going to report the Bible as a factual record of pre-500BC, when it's demonstrably fiction, a rehash of the Epic of Gilgamesh and a few other stories. That does a great disservice to Jewry, and to history generally. Shameful.
Sad that you have “forgotten” about 1000 year Jewish renaissance in Poland. Your lecture was chaotic, unfocused and content-poor. Why would anyone listen to such lousy presentation ?🤔
I am sorry you did not enjoy his lecture. However, I am confused about your comment. This talk examines the historical period before the establishment of Jewish communities in Europe. If you watch later lectures you will see that David discusses at length the establishment and expansion of European Jewish communities, including those of Poland. Regards, Marjorie Solomon
@@DavidSolomononline I watched several of his presentations and the style and superficial quality is the same. Compare with other lecturers on Jewish history….
