I’ve seen several of these survivor testimonies, and I’m amazed at how incredibly well these survivors ultimately turned out. They are all so well spoken, so eloquent, so elegant, friendly, approachable, and warm. It is amazing how resilient humans are!

I love hearing all their stories prior to their being victims. They all had beautiful fairytale lives. They all were very well educated. Extremely hardworking and had their own businesses. Beautiful homes with big families that had harmless traditions. They all had handmade clothes and shoes that sounded so beautiful for their time. No matter how many testimonies I listened to. It still fascinates me as to how quickly the Nazi’s reduced each family of their life. I can’t wrap my minds around how a person could do this to anyone.. even their worst enemies. This lady is so sweet I can’t imagine how she coped with the loss of everything and everyone she had. There will never be a good enough excuse for this to have happened

Although i only heard about the holocaust around 1970's i was in my twenties Our schools did not teach us this history..i am in Australia and now retired and spend a few hours each night watching many of the testimonies .. Sending love and light to you ❤🇦🇺

What I noticed other than her beautiful, somewhat, cheerful voice, is the fact she credited her mother for the strength that her mother had. She said when she was separated from her mother, she no longer has strength and became confused and doubted the existence of God, yet the first chance she had, she jumped off the truck and went back to the camp. Then further, continued working unbelievably hard jobs as slave labor enduring severe beatings. She doesn't even realize her strength. I believe her love of human beings during inhumane treatment is what saved her. Bless you and thank you for sharing your strength and courage for us to learn from. You are a true inspiration to us all. God blessed you through your trials and tribulations. Now you bless us with your story. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!❣️

I also had the pleasure of staying with the Lyons in SF in 1996. Gloria is the first and only holocaust survivor that I have ever met. I found her testimony very moving. I am so glad that I found this on youtube . No youtube in 1996, so once I left SF I couldn't listen again. Tonight I wondered if she would be on youtube and info was also on Wikipedia. An exceptionally interesting and well told testimopny (among many exeptional testimonies). Beutilfully said in eloquent English (intervened with Hungarian songs!): Gloria not only told her story in all details but spent much time and energy on researching the circumstances of her slave labor and the perpetrators after the war. (SS guards, Continental Gummiwerke, Dora Mittelbau etc.). Thank you Gloria. Thanks also to the Shoah Foundation and the interviewer, who was excetionally compassionate and helpful in this case. Richard called it a war crime. Richard's a Vietnam Vet (1970-1972), was an Army Ranger & Paratrooper, and worked for the National Guard for 8 years after returning from Vietnam because he couldn't get a job on account of people who committed war crimes in Vietnam and they assumed every single soldier did it, Whereas, OTOH, "people who returned from WWII (after committing the most disgusting & vile war crimes you ever saw) were given parades and flag-waving ceremonies that seem ridiculous considering what some of them did. The massacre at Dachau, that wasn't uncovered until 30 years later & was unnecessary bc the enemy had laid down their weapons, is an example of a war crime." But he's referring to the other witness testimony I tried to watch & became too horrified to continue,. She saw a 10 y.o CITIZEN get shot by a "soldier" of their BULLYING Army because the boy "took too long" to step off the sidewalk. I'm still too upset 5 weeks later, and I still can't return to her testimony. They shot CIVILIANS & didn't even care. Richard said "that's a war crime & there's no way to make it into anything else." But I don't know if the "enemy" followed any Geneva Convention rules. Richard also thinks the Geneva Rules are silly, or not realistic to expect that in the middle of mortal combat, people will "see fit to follow civilized rules. War is not civilized, it's the polar opposite of anything human." He thinks nature is cruel by accident. War is uncivilized by design.

I find it disgusting how Germany was rewarded for WWII by us. What kind of lesson did that give? Never Again? Ever Again is more like it, as has been shown by subsequent events. No country has ever been punished for Genocide. Not Turkey. Not Germany. Not Cambodia. Not Rwanda,n Not Serbia. Not Syria. Not even Iraq really.
@RW-kp3wr
@RW-kp3wr 6 лет назад
You clearly never had a history lesson in your life. Your approach of punishing Germany was attempted and it lead to economic depression, and ultimately Hitler being in power. The testament to the success of the Marshall plan exists before our eyes: Germany is a country with a strong human rights record, and a robust democratic government. Your childish need for "revenge" is what gets people into trouble throughout history. Instead, we chose the pragmatic path of rehabilitating Germany, and everyone is better off. As for the Nazis who escaped justice: that was inexcusable.
