Rudi, or 'Ralph' as we called him, was step-father to Christopher and me for nearly 30 years. How clearly this interview shows his remarkable aura of calm, as he describes, with typical 'matter-of-fact' delivery, the devastating events of his early life! I benefited from his wisdom, and cannot adequately express my gratitude to this beloved, wonderful man for his tolerant, generous spirit.

He seems the epitome of everything that one could called "civilised". He showed remarkable resilience throughout his life, and I remember him saying that when his father was murdered no-one came to say sorry - and he said it with no sense of bitterness, just a sense of incomprehension and bewilderment. I wish I had met him - a credit to his family and the perfect example of what an anti-Nazi should do to disprove their odious psychology.

I am glad he didn't ed up in a camp, but losing his parents and the rest of his family must have been devastating. Being locked up in Australia didn't help matters any, but he retained his dignity and calm composure. SALUTE Rudi!
