Dave *gets nervous about teaching JF licks.* Also Dave, *proceeds to perfectly demonstrate the licks and tone that the rest of us having been trying to figure out since 2006!* Awesome man! 🙌🏻
It seems that I am watching you from many years ago sitting in your sandbox with all of your toys - both real and imaginary (?). When you stand up and play, the childhood disappears and the brilliant guitarist/teacher takes over. Cheers /Slainte.🇬🇧🏴🇺🇸. 🎸👨🏼⚕️🫶✌️♾️. And thank you.
Dave - you can never do enough JF vids. Cant wait to watch this over a coffee this morning. Thank you! Id recommend looking at picking techniques up close on many of his trills... there are so many where id just love to know how somone like you plays them - e.g. trill progression durring outro of Wet Sand... down, up up, down up up, down up?
Thank you for demystifying John's music! As a fellow guitar enjoyer - this is very helpful! I'll try and learn all of these leaks tomorrow and see how it goes
The key to using the right lick in live without looking too unnatural is to know where the music is moving. I.e: Lick one is centered on the 5th, which screams for a root note somewhere.
Absolutely amazing as always Dave, I had the biggest smile on my face throughout this entire video. You are very knowledgeable and a great teacher, you should never doubt that! I’ve learnt a tremendous amount from your videos. Keep being a blooming legend Mr Simpson. 👍🏻
its cool that if people want to go further into john's soloing and they are at intermediate or beginner level they can watch Dave Simpson break it down
Awesome video. I’ve always seen John start riff 1 (and most other fast wah riffs) with the initial bend with his ring finger and have always tried to mimic it but found it more difficult. It makes me feel better to see you play it playing the initial bend with your middle finger and still sound perfect. Cheers
Lol. That’s so funny I attended a birthday party last weekend and they had Karaoke. My wife and I sang Dani California. It was one of the best crazy wah sounds.
Thanks for this lesson, Dave. I've been trying to learn this technique for years, but I'm confident this lesson (and a lot of practice) will get me there. I've seen you use the PastFx Chorus Ensemble in older videos. Do you prefer the Golden Plexi to a CE-1 clone for John's dirty/clean sound?
It's not that I like your music because I am a subscriber of your channel. I subscribed to your channel because I really like your music. I mentioned on yesterday's livecast my favorite piece is the intro you did on the video "Boss Katana Artist MKII - Could This Be My Perfect Amp". (Which I have the Artist combo along with the Katana 100/212, love 'em both.) I look foward to every video you create. Again, when the day comes that you play a show in California, man I'll support you. You got fans all over dude! Take care Dave!!!
Great video Dave! I think you are a good guitar teacher, and I really like and use your teaching videos to help me learn how to play guitar like my favorite artists. The Dani California solo is one of my favorite guitar sounds of all time, I always wanted to know about it. I want to get a Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion and compare it to my Digitech Grunge pedal, as both sound more like Fuzz to me than distortion.
what a timing, i was wondering if putting my wah after my fuzz, because we have a couple of RHCP songs in our set and it just doesnt sound right like i have it now (wah first) but for the other funky stuff we do, i preffer the wah first, where would you place the compressor? before or after wah? and before or after fuzz? thanks, its not pleasant to tear the pedalboard appart to try every possible combination when you have everything put together nicely with the cables and all.
@@thedavesimpson thanks. I’m replacing my crybaby with a wh10v3. I have a Tc sweet cream and golden plexi after the wah, it’s great to know this placement will utilise the wh10 very well.
Sorry to go off-topic, Dave, but did you not fairly recently say you were unfamiliar with Roy Buchanon? Astonishing you missed him. I assure you he will change your life. Troubled? Yes. Genius? Yes. Immeasurably so.
My bad, @theDaveSimpson...I must have falsely attributed to you something from one of those reaction vlogs. Unfortunately the only thing I seem to have in common with Roy is that I drinks a bit... 😒😵
now im puzzled...that part you were covering is in a highly rotated song by them that is sadly cut out of the song by the radio station...tees me off greatly lol! i cant think of the song altho that riff is playin in me head....
