If anyone deserves recognition, it's Dave Simpson. Not only is he a blues slaying maniac, he's the most humble guy and just a sweet human being and for him I wish nothing but the utmost success in his musical endeavors. And kudos to the captain for having him on for amazing interview. There's a reason he's been the most requested artist for an interview with the captain, everybody who gets to know Dave absolutely loves him. There's no reason he shouldn't be endorsing a dozen companies as he never gets bad feedback & he's built his channel 1 sub at a time.
This man is amazing both as a guitarist and human being. He is a great advocate for mental health and I respect his openness about it all, being I have suffered with mental health issues for 25 years. Dave deserves all the success this brings him going forward. Which he will no doubt deal with in his own humble way. Proud to be a subscriber to his channel.
He's the best. Incredible player, incredible soul. I'm not a fanboy about anything, except for my desire to see him succeed to higher and higher reaches. His technical and artistic skill are both immense.
If you know anything about depression and anxiety then you'll know how much he must have (or may have) been stressing about this appearance but he absolutely smashed it 🤘🏻🙌🏻😎
Lee, you should employ Dave to do all the solid state amps and 'affordable' guitars reviews....you will increase sales, no end....and by the way, his sound like tones from one amp (CR120) are amazing, Dave has such an incredible 'ear'......Dave, you are awesome....!!
@@Random-ck7kw It's probably a Frusciante quote. Dave eats...sleeps...pisses... and shits all things Frusciante. He's damn near a stalker.😄 He tries to play like him. He has obviously picked up John's open mouth thing when John plays. Still though Dave seems like a really good guy. I do kinda wish he'd dial back the Frusciante thing a little bit. However, his fans seem to like it, so what do I know?🤷🏻♂️
@@Allison_Chaynes if you’d watch Dave’s channel you’d realize how misinformed you are. His influences are way bigger than just Frusciante and in his jams you can see a lot of different styles and ideas going on. I think you’re assessment of him is just superficial and there’s more to him than just the "John nut" tag
Dave is what you'd get if you crossed Guthrie Govan with Peter Greene with a healthy heapin helpin of Neil Young. +1 T shirt game on point +1 Brought Own Gear
Mike Williams I am Sir. Dave would make more in revenue doing what he does than being an hourly wage worker at a store that has to pay itself first before its roster of part time employees
I'd love to see Dave stop by Andertons and do a days filming once a month testing guitars, gear or just messing about with Captain and Pete, Maybe get a video out every other week or so. That would be awesome,
I’m always stunned by how good of an interviewer Lee is. He sits back and lets people tell their story without pushing them or really cutting over them. Very good at bringing people out of their shell.
He really is. I made the same comment about another one he did last year. He's a great listener and reads up on his subject, showing an interest in them.his He's really professional at this.
@@michaelolz Holt SHT Man You should hear how good I sound in my head I Sound WAY better than that one dude you knew from high school who played at a couple of parties, and has been playing off and on the last 30 plus years. F that guy. I sound WAY better than him in cranial audio format.
Yes. The dude loves Frusciante and really recreates the feel. Love his show. What a great community. Actually had him check out a vid of mine once. Hehehh. Kinda Cool.
I don't think that's a compliment...would you like to become someone else's clone? to be always, consistently associated with someone else's style instead of being associated with your own sound?
I never heard of if this guy, but saw all the positive comments and decided to watch the video, its easy to see why people like him, he is a real honest, vulnerable human being, not so commercially oriented, and one hell of a player. I will check out his channel. Well done Captain.
Dave is one of those players who uses the most modest gear but gets tones I can only dream of regardless of what I use. Watching his passion for more affordable gear and the sounds he gets made me realise it's better to use what you like and what you know you can get a good sound out of instead of what you think you should be buying.
Your channel could learn a thing or two from him... instead of banning people like me, because you don't like having your emotionally-charged opinions challenged. I know you're going through some crap right now and I wish you the best, but after some of the stuff you've said and blocking my comments so you could have your own echo chamber, you look a lot different to me now than when I used to watch your amp repairs. For a perfect example of something Dave would never tell his viewers and subscribers in a million years: imgur.com/tTkTGrQ (and no, that's not even when you blocked me, it was before that). Notice how Dave handles his challenges and struggles: he projects outward a sense of vulnerability, connection, support, positivity, and hope for others. He relates to other people. He cares and doesn't tear anyone down, ever. He gives love, he receives love. Now contrast that with how you behave: you get reactive, combative, aggressive, and start insulting those who helped your channel grow by watching it to start with. And you pat yourself on the back and say, and I quote, you're 'culling the herd,' along with a lot of other profanity-laced bluster.
They should give him a job hosting that and reviewing gear ,he’s got such a refreshing and genuine passion it would breathe a nice fresh new vibe. Not sure what happened to the other bloke but he actually put me of watching this as I use to check out a lot of gear on there.Go Dave !
I enjoy your RU-vid channel Brad, very interesting topics you share. Dave is a very cool and genuine dude. I'm actually very inspired by his outlook on life and his guitar playing. I very much like his love for inexpensive gear, he makes it sound very expensive!
Never heard of Dave Simpson before. He is clearly a very talented guitarist bit also, and this comes through very strongly, he seems like a good, kind, man.
very true, also check his youtube, he is as wacky and mental as they come but that makes him a great guy to me, cause he isnt afraid, after everything hes been through, to show it
I knew Dave back in the day, he used to take his guitar everywhere! When we were smoking and drinking, he was there playing his guitar. It's not surprising he's ended up here, well deserved after years of graft and practise. You're the man Dave! Thank you Andertons too.
Finally. Finally. Finally. Dave's been on RU-vid for such a long time, toiling away and delivering wonderful content for those in the know. You'll never hear him slagging anyone off, boasting about his accomplishments or shilling for some mega music corporation (Umbrella notwithstanding). He's not slick, doesn't rely on schtick and seems utterly disinterested in the traditional rock star trappings of fame and fortune. He's always just been Dave Simpson, a wonderfully talented and authentic guy genuinely interacting with his audience from the humble confines of his bedroom. If appearing on the Andertons channel helps raise his profile, all the better. He really has put the time (and tone) in as a musician to truly deserve it. Great to see you here, Dave. :)
100% the guitar saves lives. It’s pulled me back from the edge countless times. Thanks for sharing Dave, you’re a legend and we’d be poorer without you mate.
Dave Simpson is the most down to earth, raw, guitar reviewer on RU-vid. Instead of pushing what’s popular or high end he is transparent in his reviews and tell you what works.
PLEASE anyone who doesn't have their life together and is not following Dave Simpson GO DO IT this channel will change you. Dave is what you have been missing in your life.
Maurice Di Bert I know if only we all could make that happen for him. I’d love to see him get the opportunity to meet the very guy who inspired him, to go onto inspire so many others.
The first time I went into a guitar shop age 12 I asked the owner if I could look at a strat and he asked if I would like to try it with the proviso that I didn’t play SOTW. The problem being it was the only song I knew!
I'm a crap guitar player, I know cowboy chords and hardly ever go up the frets to the dusty end but for over 45 years now since I was 15 the guitar apart from my wife has been my best friend, always cheers me up. I know exactly where dave is coming from.
I bought my Boss Katana 50 from Anderton’s after hearing Dave play through one. So happy people are discovering him via this interview. He truly deserves success.
I'm a bit older, and I've had several times in my life where I felt like what Dave describes here. I'm glad he feels comfortable enough to talk about it. It truly might help some people to hear this. Music and creativity can be a very healing force in people's lives.
Larry Lachmann Dave was so nervous he doesn’t remember much of the interview. He had to watch it back to see what happened, Luckily he had his sister with him for moral support.
@@thekitowl Is that right? Wow! He did seem nervous, but he was cool. I guess it's so far outside his comfort zone of either playing in his room or on a stage. I'd be nervous too, honestly! Dave's the man! And Lee was cool and sensitive to it all.
Thank you so much for introducing me to Dave .I'm 57 bought my first guitar from you lot squir custom classic vib Tele , it hurts like hell sometimes because l have ostio arthritis but god he inspires. Bought the guitar to look like Strummer sad
Never saw an ML-1 used as a total blues machine. Never saw Dave before. Truly an amazing guitar player In my opinion, there 's a majority of us who spend too much time and money "chasing tone" when we should be more like Dave and spend our time learning to truly posses tone. That's it. He possesses tone
@Bob Blake ML1? Never doubted that Bob. The guys who I've seen demo it give a hint of some blues but revert to form as they are as players. Gawd love 'em. We know who they are but they live in different a genre than me. Dave Simpson might just have sold me a guitar. Though I'm lusting after that new Jr that Chapman just demo'd recently
@@moosey62 I understand Anderton's position. Lee's in business and has a global presence. He's gotta' move gear. But more and more nowadays I run into much of the other content becoming nothing but cork sniffing, I'm starting to lose interest and just need to go back to playing with what i have and say the hell with you tube
damn ... i have tears rolling down... Dave has got to be greatest and most humble guitarist i ve ever known, and i am just a subscriber to his channel. all those insta live chats, a million questions on how to improve my playing, every single one answered ever so patiently.. You are awesome Dave. Rock on brother
What a brilliant interview. Dave was authentic, charmingly quirky, and obviously a first-rate talent. But Lee's skill as an interviewer absolutely shone. He was informed, considerate, listened to Dave's answers, and gently kept the conversation going in a positive direction. No small task when you're separated by a wall of plexiglass and talking about topics that range from solid state amps to mental illness. This kind of content is what keeps me coming back to the Andertons channel. Bravo.
Plus, Dave likes to talk a lot. Which is fine and something I can relate to. I can be shy. But, get me around the right people who are actually interested in the same type of music and I can talk for literally hours. So, I love it when Dave goes on about things, musically and otherwise. The dude is great.
Lee is very thoughtful. If you’re watch the Lari Basilio video you’ll see whenever she pauses looking for an English word the camera cuts to a different shot. They edited out all the gaps and struggling so she would look her best.
No it isn't, it's 100% because he's good at guitar, if he was awful no one would watch no matter how humble and ordinary he is. There are 3 million humble and ordinary but shite guitar players on RU-vid with zero followers, because they're shite. Why say shit like that...?
You're right. But I think it's both aspects. There are some great guitar players that are not engaging characters at all, and I find I don't really want to watch them much.@@mymodel6
Dave is the genuine article. A true guitarists guitarist. Had he been swept up by the 70's music industry he'd be a household name now. Keep doing what you so Dave - a true inspiration.
I'm glad Dave is getting the recognition he deserves, such an awesome talent and generally nice chap. He reminds me of old RU-vid, a guy who is passionate and does his videos for the love of guitar and the community. Long live Sir Dave Simpson of Grimsbyshire
He's great. A great human and an immense talent. If you liked his intro here, definitely subscribe to his channel. Most of his vids start with a minutes-long improvised intro jam which is consistently some of the most inspired modern playing I've heard.
I spent about a year waking up every morning into a Disassociative state due to mental illness. In this time, I started picking up guitars and burying myself in music. I love and appreciate this video, it’s not something that you hear about very often.
The main reason that guitars keep getting better as you own them longer is that they soak up all the memories. I remember my boy wanting to learn because he watched a TV show called drake and josh and it had to be a red strat. I got him a red crafter cruiser for Christmas 2009 and he still owns it today and attributes all his success in music to it. In fact he has never got rid of any of his guitars over the last 14 years and has quite a few now with a few fenders, esp's and so but never a Gibson but I've bought him a 2009 Les Paul standard this year for Christmas as we have had a bad year with his mum's health and he has been outstanding with all the help, so I think it's a good payback for him. Love the channel and Dave and Cici. Merry Christmas ❤
Out of all the most ambitious cross-overs there has been in the youtube guitar world, this one takes the cake. Cheers to The Capt. and the almighty Dave Simpson
That's an act, he censors his comments, that tells you he is very controlling, and if you will notice, 99% of the comments he likes are comments praising him.
@@davidjohnson-fo7ze he censors his comments to avoid the usual RU-vid assholes who get off on talking smack and taking the piss - generally acting like playground bullys. Can't say that I blame him to be fair. Take a look around most comments sections on a lot of videos. A good few of the big Guitar RU-vidrs aren't exactly known for liking criticism. Its his channel - he gets the views, doesnt talk down to anybody.. good for him.
@@davidjohnson-fo7ze what are you on about !? Think about it ! Would you love love love the hate comments !? Maybe you would be happy to get any comments !?
@@davidjohnson-fo7ze He controls his RU-vid channel? Erm, yeah. I bet he deletes far less than that other guy that used to be on this channel a lot more than he is now. 🤔
I noticed how The Captain handled every aspect of this interview with real skill. I paid attention to the entire video and several times he surprised me with his very mature and clear outlook on music and life in general. He certainly is the best person we have in today's world to conduct an interview concerning music.
Please , please get Dave Simpson back , what a brilliant guitarist , a genuine person who comes over as a not full of I'm just a super guitarist , enjoyed every moment
@@misterknightowlandco lol, totally. On one hand, his playing is so inspiring that it probably helps sell guitars; on the other hand, he's killing their business of convincing people they need thousands of dollars worth of pedals and amps to sound great 😆
@@400_billion_suns eh I think they can handle one guy showing kids what you can do with budget gear. They'll just keep it longer and save up longer for the custom shop stuff 😆. Personally, I love strats like Dave but I only play the noiseless ones. I have a collection a 2006 fender deluxe strats. It was the one year they made a mexican strat with the usa made noiseless pickups in them. I have 3 of them. Love em. Play them through a fender mustang 3 v.1. No pedals of course. I cant handle excess noise at all and hate how thick and dark humbuckers are 😆
Just an observation, Dave was holding back in his playing here, he hates playing sitting down, check out his channel where he is playing naturally standing up, that`s when you will see him truly fly...
Just an observation, you posted a message not giving any props for the 1h30m free content you just watched. You should start doing that and be a more positive, less besserwisser type of person, old man.
Just repeating everyone else but Dave really is a nice, humble northern lad. Been a fan of his channel for a few years. Great guitarist, very funny in his own way. You either get it or you don’t. This interview only made us all love him more.
This is the best Anderton's video ever done. Just an open, no-pretensions conversation with an intriguing musical-maestro and a MASTERFUL interviewer (yes, Lee, you really are). Lee doesn't rush things, he gets the most out of Dave. There's very little gear-pimping, it takes its time. This is a genuine and fascinating interview. I didn't watch Dave's channel before: I assumed he was a tragic loser with issues, but now I realise how completely genuine he is. He is the real deal - a man with issues, and a man with sick talent that literally lives for guitar. Marvelous.
Well done Dave! I felt weirdly proud of you, even though I've never met you. Also for anyone watching who hasn't seen him play before, he fudged a few notes because he was nervous (who wouldn't be), check out his channel and see him play there. With his use of affordable pedals and amps, I'd love to see him on that pedal show.. even if it was just a 5 min cameo show casing SS amps!
You have to love a genuine, insanely talented English eccentric. The world is a better place with Dave in it. Keep up the good work fella - you're an inspiration.
